Shu Mian carried four cups of milk tea back to her dorm. As soon as she entered, she was met with the intense gazes of her three roommates.

She was taken aback. “What’s wrong? What happened?”

Fang Yao was the first to approach her, grinning as she said, “I went to the balcony to hang up the clothes, and I saw Tan Xuzhe escorting you back to the dorm.”

Song Yiyi chimed in, “Sending her back to her dorm is nothing. Tan Xuzhe even accompanied her to class today. You guys didn’t see how sweet they were sitting together. Even the teachers thought they were a couple!”

“…Stop teasing me.” Shu Mian’s ears were burning.

Xiang Sang chuckled and tried to smooth things over, “That’s right, Mian Mian is shy… Mian Mian, did you bring this milk tea for us?”

Upon hearing this, Shu Mian’s expression became slightly unnatural, and she said in a soft voice, “It’s for you… Tan Xuzhe’s treat.”

After finishing their elective course, the two of them went to the cafeteria for lunch together.

After dinner, Tan Xuzhe escorted her back to her dormitory. On the way, they passed a bubble tea shop, and she glanced at it a few more times, hesitating whether or not to buy one.

Unexpectedly, Tan Xuzhe suddenly said he wanted to drink milk tea. After buying two cups for them, he bought three more, saying he would treat his roommate to them.

He didn’t say why he wanted to treat her roommates to drinks.

Fang Yao raised an eyebrow. “He’s pursuing you, isn’t he? This guy’s pretty savvy; he even knows to make a good impression on your roommates.”

Shu Mian quickly waved her hand upon hearing this, “Don’t talk nonsense, he didn’t say he wanted to pursue me.”

“It’s obvious you’ve never been in a relationship.” Song Yiyi couldn’t help but pinch her cheek and said with a smile, “Does he need to tell you in advance before he pursues you— Shu Mian, I’m going to pursue you.”

“Yes, his current behavior clearly shows that he wants to pursue you.”

Shu Mian listened, opened a cup of milk tea, and took a few sips through the straw.

Her roommates all said so, so it can’t be her imagination, right?

Tan Xuzhe really had good feelings about her, and may even like her a little.

….

She had no classes in the afternoon.

So she took a nap, and when she woke up, she saw the assignment notification that the class monitor had posted in the group chat. It was an assignment for two major courses, both of which were due after the holiday.

Her other two roommates had gone to class. She glanced at Song Yiyi, who was curled up on her bed playing on her phone, and asked, “Yiyi, do you want to come to the library with me to do homework?”

“I’m not going. Isn’t the homework due after the National Day holiday?”

Song Yiyi didn’t even look up, her fingers flying across the keyboard, a smile playing on her lips that suggested she was in love, probably chatting with her boyfriend.

Shu Mian hugged the blanket, propped her elbows on her knees, and cupped her face in her hands. “I definitely don’t want to write during the holidays. I want to finish it this afternoon.”

“It’s not that I don’t want to do it now, it’s just that my phone gets jealous whenever I do homework.” Song Yiyi blinked and said sweetly, “Besides, Fu Xingfan is going to play games with me this afternoon to help me rank up.”

Shu Mian smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll go by myself then.”

Because she needed to bring her laptop, she carried a backpack.

Perhaps because it was the day before the holiday, there were very few people in the library today.

Shu Mian found a seat and sat down. One of her assignments was to write a news article. She gathered her materials, opened the document, and began writing.

As she was engrossed in writing, she vaguely sensed someone sitting opposite her. Then, a male voice rang out, “Shu Mian, what a coincidence?”

She looked up and saw it was her classmate, Ren Yu, the boy who had added her on WeChat that morning.

Shu Mian nodded politely, then quickly looked back at the computer screen.

“Are you here to do your homework too?” Ren Yu asked again.

Shu Mian, afraid of disturbing others, gave a very low “hmm” without raising her head.

Ren Yu, however, clearly didn’t realize this and continued to ask, “Was the person who accompanied you to class this morning your boyfriend?”

“…No.” Shu Mian typed on the laptop keyboard, frowned slightly, and answered casually.

Ren Yu grinned. “Great, I thought he was your boyfriend.”

“…”

Shu Mian looked up at him, her tone indifferent, “Didn’t you come here to do your homework?”

“Oh, right, right.” Ren Yu chuckled awkwardly. “Don’t mind me, I’m just a bit of a chatterbox.”

Shu Mian glanced at the people around her who were engrossed in their studies and said in a low voice, “This is the library.”

Ren Yu finally stopped talking.

Shu Mian finished writing the news article, raised her hand to rub the back of her neck, took out her phone from her bag, thought for a moment, and then got up and left the study room.

She felt guilty every time she looked at her phone in the study room.

Standing in the corridor, she unlocked her phone, thinking she’d just scroll through it for a bit to relax, when she received a message about order and rules, sent more than twenty minutes ago.

9: [Image]

9: [Class is so boring.]

9: [It’s not as fun as taking class with you.]

Shu Mian clicked on the picture and took a look; it was a picture of an advanced mathematics textbook.

She secretly rejoiced that journalism majors didn’t have to study advanced mathematics, but her gaze lingered on his last message, and she couldn’t help but smile.

Was it fun to take classes with her?

Watching movies in film appreciation class was indeed interesting, but the news theory class at 8 am was clearly quite boring.

Shu Mian thought for a moment, carefully choosing her words before replying: [Do you have class next period?]

The class had already started, and she was wondering if she should attend the next class with him if he had another one…

The person on the other end clearly wasn’t paying attention, replying instantly: [What, want to come and attend class with me?]

9: [Unfortunately, there’s no class next period]

9: [Next time]

9: [You didn’t have any classes this afternoon according to your schedule, so why did it take you so long to reply?]

Shu Mian blinked. Twenty minutes had passed without her replying to his message. That wasn’t a long time, was it?

But she still explained: [I was doing my homework in the study room and didn’t check my phone.]

9: [Did you go to the library?]

She found a cat nodding emoji and sent it.

9: [Well-behaved student]

“Good student is good student, what is this well-behaved student…” Shu Mian imagined the tone of his voice when he called out like that.

She discovered that Tan Xuzhe quite liked using reduplicated words; he would call her “Shu Mianmian” when he called her, which, combined with his lazy voice, created a strangely tender and ambiguous feeling.

She was reluctant to end the conversation, but she still told him that she had to go back to the study room to do her homework.

He just replied, [Okay.]

Shu Mian returned to the study room, finished the remaining homework, and since it was still early, she picked out a book from the bookshelf, intending to read for a while before going back.

To her surprise, a short while later, two boys came over and asked her for her WeChat.

Shu Mian politely declined, and not wanting to stay any longer, she packed her things and prepared to leave.

She left the study room and headed towards the stairs. Ren Yu, for some reason, also came out carrying his backpack. “Hey, Shu Mian, let’s go out together. Have you finished those two assignments?”

“Mm.” She nodded.

Ren Yu twitched his lips and said, “You’re so efficient. I’ve only just finished one.”

Shu Mian didn’t know what to say, so she casually replied, “Take your time.”

“Are you going to the cafeteria for dinner later? Let’s go together.”

Shu Mian lied, “I made plans to eat with my roommate.”

“It’s okay, I don’t mind, we can go together.”

Shu Mian frowned and glanced at him. “But my roommate will mind.”

“……Oh.”

After leaving the library, Ren Yu was still rambling on about random things, while Shu Mian listened absentmindedly, looking down at the steps.

Suddenly, the backpack on her back felt light; someone had lifted it up.

Shu Mian turned around and saw Tan Xuzhe standing behind her, looking at her with a half-smile, glancing at Ren Yu beside him out of the corner of his eye.

“You… how did you get here?” She paused, somewhat surprised, and asked.

Tan Xuzhe looked down at her, a slight smile playing on his lips, and said in his usual lazy tone, “I’ve come to pick you up.”
