While browsing the web on the tablet, she suddenly remembered that the second episode of Infinite Collapse was probably already airing in China at this time?

Perhaps because of the remote location and the heavy rain, the tablet’s internet connection was poor, and web pages loaded very slowly. After a few tries, Si Huang lost interest in going online, tossed the tablet aside, and thought of the man beside her. “Why did you come to Italy?”

“Still for the mission from last time,” Qin Fan said calmly.

Si Huang saw that he didn’t seem to be hiding anything. “Can you tell me in detail?”

“Knowing too much won’t do you any good.”

“I’m really sure about you. So it’s only when you don’t know anything that you’re truly at a disadvantage.”

These words made Qin Fan’s eyes darken. After thinking about it carefully, he realized that Si Huang’s words made sense. On one hand, he was happy that the child could think about their future, and on the other hand, he felt heartache and guilt. She was only a little over 18, yet she was already so sensible, thinking things through clearly and considering everything properly.

“I told you last time, there’s an organization that specifically targets people with superpowers.”

“Hmm.” As a member of a special bloodline, Si Huang also felt threatened upon hearing this.

No one wanted to have such a hidden enemy lurking around them, so it was no wonder that Qin Fan was particularly serious about this mission.

“Based on the clues we’ve gathered so far, we still don’t know who the real mastermind of this organization is. However, it involves multiple forces from various countries, operating covertly through overt transactions. Italy was involved in one such transaction.”

“What about your trip to Africa last time?”

“There’s a medicinal herb produced in that primitive tribe in Africa, something that the organization needs.”

“The one you personally tested last time?”

“Yes.” Qin Fan sensed a subtle shift in Si Huang’s tone, and his mind finally caught on. A smile appeared in his eyes as he looked at Si Huang, but he maintained a serious demeanor as he explained, “That thing, though called a medicinal herb, is more like the main ingredient in a drug. It affects a person’s nerves, controls their thoughts, and induces a kind of ‘imprint,’ which then amplifies infinitely, causing them to project this emotion onto someone, becoming completely trusting and obedient to that person.”

“If they go through a traditional process of hypnosis and brainwashing, these controlled individuals will become the most devoted and loyal dogs, right?”

“Yes.”

The previously serious conversation was broken by Si Huang’s next sentence, “How come I didn’t know you had a ‘imprint’ for me?”

“My feelings for you are courtship,” Qin Fan said, “deeper than just an ‘imprint.”

Their gazes locked, igniting again.

To avoid any escalation and attracting attention from the surrounding cars and crowds, Qin Fan proactively changed the subject, bringing the atmosphere back to a safe and normal one. “Be careful in the future.”

“How so?”

“Although traditional families in every country have tacit understandings, there’s no guarantee there won’t be corrupt elements within. Being exposed makes you an easy target.”

Si Huang thought for a moment, not overly worried, and calmly explained, “Or rather, it’s precisely because I’m exposed that I’m much safer. Because every time I appear, a large crowd gathers, making it difficult for someone to find an opportunity to strike in secret, even if they really want to target me.”

From Qin Fan’s explanation, Si Huang understood that this secret organization didn’t dare to actively attack the direct descendants of truly powerful families, probably fearing to alert them and have their secrets uncovered. Therefore, their operations remained highly clandestine.

She laughed, “Besides, if someone really attacks me, I can actually help with your mission.”

The man wasn’t pleased by her words; instead, he pursed his lips and coldly warned, “Forget about that idea! Don’t even think about it!”

“Do you know how those medicinal herbs in African tribes are cultivated?” Qin Fan hadn’t originally intended to tell the child this, but to dispel some of Si Huang’s restless thoughts, he warned, “They use the human body as a medium. First, they divide the body like a field, sprinkle fertilizer, and wait for the wounds to rot. Then they stuff seeds into the rotting, muddy flesh. During this process, the person being nourished doesn’t die; their nerves can still feel the pain and sense the plant roots growing inside, until the body’s nutrients are completely drained.”

Qin Fan noticed the child’s expression change halfway through his explanation. He initially thought she had been warned and would understand the seriousness of the situation and learn her lesson.

Just as he finished speaking, he noticed that Si Huang’s head was lowered, obscuring her expression, but her exposed hands were clenched into fists, the veins bulging.

“Si Huang?” Qin Fan sensed something was wrong and immediately reached out to lift Si Huang’s face. He then saw a face so pale it was almost bluish, her eyes filled with an indescribable darkness, making her look like a demon from hell.

Qin Fan was startled and instinctively pulled the stiff, cold Si Huang into his arms. He didn’t even think to ask why, focusing only on comforting her. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have scared you. It’s my fault. It’s okay, nothing’s wrong.”

His body temperature jolted Si Huang back from her reverie of death. Although she had calmed down, at this moment she felt a strange longing for the warmth of a man’s body.

This man was different from her; his body temperature was higher than average, even through a layer of clothing. His heartbeat was steady and powerful, giving her a sense of strength and security.

Si Huang’s body slowly warmed up. She knew she had overreacted, but Qin Fan’s sudden narration brought back the deliberately avoided memory of her death— it truly was a process!

Others die simply by dying, but her death was a slow, agonizing process, each second a torment that plunged her into despair.

Even though the pain was so intense she wanted to end her own life, and her limbs were numb, unable to move even a finger, except for her mind, which continued to race wildly.

The dampness of the earth, the stench of decaying leaves, even her body felt like a rotten log hollowed out by termites— she desperately wanted to cut away the tainted flesh piece by piece!

Even though it was over, truly over, the memory was still too vivid, deeply ingrained in her soul, capable of stimulating all her senses whenever she recalled it.

“What are you afraid of?” Qin Fan asked softly from above, his tone unusually gentle.

Si Huang opened her mouth, but no sound came out. After calming her breathing, she felt a little tired. She pushed the man away from his chest, leaned back in the passenger seat, and lazily glanced at Qin Fan. “You dare to eat medicine grown like that? It’s not easy being in your line of work.”

Qin Fan didn’t care about her teasing and still asked, “I’m not that timid.” Why was this child, who wasn’t afraid of killing, so frightened by this? “Has someone done something to you?”

His expression at this moment gave Si Huang the feeling that as long as she said yes and mentioned the person’s name, the man would stand up for her and drag that person out to torture them to death.

But how could she say it? It was pointless to bring up things that hadn’t happened yet, especially since she didn’t even have a complete memory of it and hadn’t found out who the real mastermind behind her death was.

“It’s just that the thought of you eating that kind of stuff makes me feel a little disgusted that I kissed you,” Si Huang said, looking away with disdain.

Qin Fan’s face darkened at the thought, and he chuckled. Suddenly, he leaned in and kissed Si Huang several times on the lips, saying coldly, “You really need to get used to it sooner, or you’ll feel disgusted later.”

Si Huang had just made up an excuse to brush off Qin Fan’s question, and she was also a little mentally exhausted, so she lay still and let him kiss her.

Qin Fan noticed her fatigue, and after a few kisses, he let go. Just as he was about to say something, a loud “bang” suddenly came from in front of them.
