There was a coffee table in the living room, and all the hot pot ingredients they had bought were piled on it. Su Xi had bought a four-person hot pot beforehand. Now she turned on the power, poured in water and hot pot base, and then slowly added the hot pot ingredients.

Su Xi and Lu Huan had eaten this kind of food once before. Lu Huan had never tried it before, and he stared at it longingly with his chopsticks, as if he had discovered a new continent. Su Xi was so charmed by his gaze that she couldn’t concentrate on her homework at all. How was she supposed to get into a top university like this?! Therefore, Su Xi strongly reprimanded Lu Huan for deliberately acting cute and told him to evolve from an ancient country bumpkin into a trendy man of the new century!

At this moment, Su Xi, Huo Jingchuan, and Gu Qin were gathered around the hot pot, unpacking the ingredients one by one, while Lu Huan went into the kitchen to cook.

After all, four people would still get a little hungry if they only ate hot pot and not other dishes.

Huo Jingchuan impatiently threw fish balls and tofu into the hot pot, and Su Xi couldn’t help but hit his hand with her chopsticks: “Don’t cook them yet, Lu Huan hasn’t come out yet!”

“Let’s eat first, and then cook another batch when he comes out, okay?”

“At your speed, you’ll have eaten it all by the time Lu Huan comes out.”

Huo Jingchuan was displeased: “Su Xi, you’ve been acting strange lately. Why are you siding with outsiders? How long have you known Brother Lu? How long have we known each other? Why are you protecting him like he’s a treasure? If you’re a brother, let me eat first!”

Su Xi: “…Never mind, eat, eat, eat until you’re stuffed. I’ll go help in the kitchen.”

Huo Jingchuan was delighted and, humming a little tune, dumped all his favorite fish balls and tofu into the hot pot.

Lu Huan also loved that, so Su Xi specially brought two packets. When she saw Huo Jingchuan pour them all in at once, she was furious and got up to go to the kitchen.

Lu Huan was putting on his apron when he turned around and glanced at her, his eyes full of smiles. He just said, “He’s a guest, so let him eat.”

Although Brother Huo ate all the fish balls and tofu, he was happy.

Su Xi moved behind him, helped him tie his apron, and said to him, “Don’t be polite with Huo Jingchuan. Just stir-fry some shredded potatoes. He’s been eating and drinking at my house since he was a child.”

Lu Huan felt a little envious of Huo Jingchuan. He then said, “Your family atmosphere has always been very good. No wonder Brother Huo likes to go there.”

In just one week, Su Xi had already taught Lu Huan how to cook with natural gas.

Lu Huan grew up in the Ning Wang Mansion, where he did all sorts of rough work that others hadn’t done before. As a result, he was exceptionally skilled at cooking. However, in Yan Kingdom, everyone cooked with firewood on stoves, and this was his first time encountering natural gas here. The dishes he made tasted slightly different from Su Xi’s, but both were delicious. This week, the two of them stopped going to the cafeteria and instead came home after school to study recipes.

Lu Huan did all the dishes, but Su Xi felt sorry for him and would help him put on the blankets, since he couldn’t do these more delicate things.

The two of them lived a very fulfilling life in the apartment.

Lu Huan cooked two dishes, and Su Xi helped bring out a few bowls of rice. Sure enough, Huo Jingchuan and Gu Qin, who were sitting by the coffee table, had already finished eating and were drinking cola.

But when Huo Jingchuan smelled the beef Lu Huan was stir-frying, his nose twitched, his eyes lit up, and he quickly picked up his chopsticks: “Great! Whoever marries our Brother Lu will be so lucky!”

Su Xi sat down and tapped the food with her chopsticks: “Eat your food, stop chattering all day long.”

Lu Huan sat down cross-legged next to Su Xi, glancing at her with a half-smile.

Su Xi’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked up at the ceiling.

The hot pot was steaming hot, and the four high school students were sweating profusely as they ate.

Huo Jingchuan slammed his hand on the table and stood up as if possessed: “Congratulations to the senior class! Congratulations to the hotpot!”

Gu Qin stood up with a smile, clinked her Sprite with his, and said, “I need to get back to studying soon. I want to get into a top university in City A! Xi Xi, which one do you want to apply to? Have you decided?”

“Not yet.” Su Xi propped her head up with her elbow, stretched out her hand, and lazily bumped it with theirs, saying, “Hopefully we’ll be in the same city.”

Huo Jingchuan looked down at Lu Huan and asked, “Lu Huan, what about you? Your grades don’t seem that great.”

Su Xi almost burst out laughing, and scolded, “The exam hasn’t even been held yet, how do you know Lu Huan’s grades aren’t good?! Let me tell you, Huo Jingchuan, if he scores higher than you, don’t cry!”

Huo Jingchuan retorted, “I’m at least in the top 100 of my grade.”

Lu Huan smiled, stood up, clinked his cup with theirs, drank it all in one gulp, and said, “I wish everyone here a worry-free year after year.”

“Pah!” Huo Jingchuan said, “You speak in such a flowery language all day long. Now that you’ve cut your hair short, don’t try to act like you’ve transmigrated into an ancient costume drama!”

Su Xi laughed wildly.

Lu Huan glanced at her helplessly and sat down.

For Lu Huan, Su Xi brought him not just a lamp and a bowl of noodles, but a vibrant world.

Lu Huan had never imagined that a person could live like this, surrounded by loved ones and good friends, with the TV running and the hot pot steaming and tangy, everyone chatting and laughing, completely unconcerned about tomorrow’s livelihood or the conspiracies of the day after.

He felt satisfied every minute he spent by Su Xi’s side, as if he were greedily absorbing the essence of human life from her.

The cola was a bit pungent. The first time Lu Huan drank it, he felt his stomach bubbling wildly. Afraid of being mocked by Su Xi for being a country bumpkin from Yan, he didn’t dare say anything. It wasn’t until he drank it a few more times that he got used to this carbonated beverage. He was becoming more and more integrated into this dynasty.

He took a sip, noticed a little oil on Su Xi’s lips, then smiling slightly, took a tissue, and casually wiped it off for her.

Huo Jingchuan, always oblivious, hadn’t realized anything yet, while Gu Qin glanced at Lu Huan, then at Su Xi, who was engrossed in eating, and sensed that something was amiss.

After finishing the hot pot, Lu Huan cleaned up as usual.

Gu Qin was alright, she would even help wipe the table, but Huo Jingchuan was completely lazy, he slumped on the sofa with his belly pushed out and didn’t move, and even asked Lu Huan to bring another bottle of Coke.

Su Xi was so angry that she kicked him again.

Lu Huan ignored him: “A real man has hands and feet. What kind of behavior is it to be so listless all day long? No one will marry you if you act like this.”

Su Xi laughed and chimed in, “That’s right!”

Huo Jingchuan: “…This is outrageous! You two are ganging up on me! Su Xi, are you my childhood friend or his?!”

Su Xi ignored him and turned to go into the kitchen to help Lu Huan wash the dishes.
