But what’s coming would come eventually. Su Xi had to go home for the Chinese New Year, and they won’t be able to see each other for seven whole days.

After feeding Bold, Lu Huan carried Su Xi’s suitcase and took her home. It was only a few streets away, but for some reason, Su Xi felt unusually reluctant to part with him, a sense of emptiness lingering in her heart. Especially since she would definitely be home on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, leaving Lu Huan to spend the holiday alone. He had always been lonely during the New Year, and Su Xi really wanted to spend it with him.

Downstairs, fine, light snowflakes were falling from the sky.

Although it was daytime, the automatic streetlights were still on because the daylight was not very bright.

Lu Huan stood in front of Su Xi and adjusted her scarf: “Call me when you get back, call me tomorrow, and call me again on New Year’s Eve.”

Su Xi said, “I should be able to run out tomorrow. See you at the nearby park then.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you!” Lu Huan’s eyes lit up. He was about to say this, but he was worried that Su Xi would think he was too clingy. When Su Xi blurted it out first, his heart felt like a soft-boiled egg was melting. He said, “Remember to wear more clothes and stay warm.”

“Okay, remember to do lots of practice problems during the seven-day New Year holiday. You’ll probably be delayed for a while in the capital, and when school starts again, there will only be one semester left.” Su Xi instructed, “Also, make sure to feed Bold properly, and don’t skimp on its food while I’m away.”

Lu Huan said sourly, “With that fat cat, all you care about is its diet, but with me, all you care about is urging me to study, and nothing else?

Su Xi looked at him and suddenly said, “I really can’t bear to part with you. Why don’t you come back with me?”

Lu Huan exclaimed in surprise, “Is this true? Xiao Xi, are you going to acknowledge me? I’ll go upstairs and pack my things now—”

Su Xi was startled by his serious tone. Before she could finish speaking, the car she had called by Didi arrived.

Su Xi quickly slipped away, acting like an irresponsible scumb*g, and laughed as she said to him, “Stop dreaming, wait until graduation. But you can come to my house as a classmate on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year!”

Lu Huan felt a little resentful, but he couldn’t help but laugh. He quickly put her suitcase in the trunk and then got into the car.

Su Xi thought he would have slipped away, but who knew he would get into the car after her? Startled, she asked, “Lu Huan, what are you doing? Are you really going to see my parents?”

“I’ll take you back,” Lu Huan said helplessly. “I understand, and I won’t make things difficult for you. We can talk about meeting your parents after graduation.”

Su Xi finally breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest.

Lu Huan took her hand.

The car moved slowly under the neon lights. The streets were filled with the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year, with lanterns and decorations everywhere. This was Lu Huan’s first time seeing the New Year in this world. Although it wasn’t as crowded as the Lantern Festival in his hometown, the streets of the capital were bustling with people, but the various shops were dazzling and the atmosphere was much more prosperous. As the car drove along, he looked out the window, and Su Xi pointed out some fireworks and firecrackers set up by the roadside.

Lu Huan suddenly remembered that after the hunt at Qiuyan Mountain, she disappeared for eight days and then reappeared with dazzling fireworks going off above his head, a sight he would never forget.

He wondered what kind of beautiful fireworks this world had to offer.

Thinking about it this way, there were still many things he and she hadn’t done, waiting to be completed slowly over the course of their lives.

Su Xi hoped the car would drive slowly so she could talk to Lu Huan a little longer, but even if it drove slowly, it was only a few blocks away, and the car soon arrived at the residential area. Su Xi had no choice but to get out of the car.

Lu Huan took her suitcase out of the trunk and escorted her to the vicinity of her apartment building.

Lu Huan said to her, “See you tonight.”

Su Xi was taken aback: “At night?”

Lu Huan pointed to the phone in her pocket and said, “Don’t forget, you have this. Call me after you take a shower tonight, and I’ll come over to your place so we can do our homework together.”

“Ah, I almost forgot!” Su Xi thought they wouldn’t see each other for at least two or three days. But Lu Huan’s screen could be adjusted to the starting interface. He had previously changed the starting interface to the apartment screen, otherwise, he would definitely not have been able to hide from her parents’ eyes by always appearing in her room during this period.

Since he could adjust the interface, all he needed to do was return to the Taishan Palace, then switch the interface to her room. Wouldn’t that allow him to easily enter his room at night? Then, if her mother reached the door, he could suddenly disappear and return to the Yan Kingdom—

You could play it like this?!

Su Xi was overjoyed: “Why didn’t you say so just now?!” She had been feeling quite disappointed because she thought she wouldn’t be seeing him for several days.

Lu Huan had just been about to speak, but when he saw Su Xi hanging her head and looking listless, he realized that Su Xi would also miss him.

Su Xi was relieved and said happily, “Okay, I’m going up now. See you tonight.”

She walked backwards as she spoke, turning around only when she was almost below the building. But after pushing the suitcase into the building, she couldn’t help but look back. There she saw Lu Huan still standing under the streetlight, watching her from afar amidst the swirling snow. His hands were in the pockets of his black down jacket, and because his hair had grown long again, he was wearing a baseball cap. Even from this distance, she could still see his bright eyes and his gaze fixed solely on her.

He looked back and opened his mouth as if to say something, but there was already some distance between them, and Su Xi couldn’t hear him.

For some reason, Su Xi felt a strong, unbearable longing well up in her heart. They hadn’t even separated yet, and she already missed him. With no one around, she threw her suitcase downstairs at the apartment building and suddenly turned back.

She pushed open the door at the bottom of the building, and as she walked, she suddenly started running again.

Lu Huan’s dark eyes were filled with laughter. And before she could rush back like a bomb, he opened his arms, and Su Xi fell into his embrace.

“What did you just say?” Su Xi stood on tiptoe and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Lu Huan wrapped his arms around her waist, ruffled her hair with his other hand, and said to her, “I said—”

Su Xi perked up her ears, which felt a little hot. She felt that the shape of those lips just now resembled those three words.

“I love you.” Lu Huan lowered his eyes slightly and looked directly into her eyes. He seemed to find it a little difficult to say these words, so his ears were slightly hot, but he still held Su Xi’s waist tightly.

Su Xi’s face turned bright red; she knew it: “Never mind, I’ll go up.”

Lu Huan: “Okay.”

He hugged Su Xi tightly, burying his head in her neck for a while before letting go.

Su Xi walked into the apartment building, turning back every few steps, until she disappeared into the elevator. Lu Huan didn’t leave either.

She stood in the elevator, pulling her suitcase. Recalling Lu Huan’s serious expression earlier, a smile unconsciously spread across her face. An aunt who had just finished taking out the trash stood in the elevator with her, gave Su Xi a strange look, and asked, “Little girl, are you in love?”

Su Xi suddenly felt shy and giggled twice. When the elevator stopped at her floor, she quickly grabbed her suitcase and rushed out.

After starting boarding school, she would usually go home once a week. So when her boarding parents saw her come back, they didn’t show any expression at all. Her father was boiling water in the kitchen and her mother was knitting on the sofa. They glanced at her and said, “You’re back? Perfect timing. Help your father water the flowers; he’s too busy.”

Su Xi, who seemed not to be their biological daughter: “…”

Su Xi put down her luggage, then filled with resentment, picked up the watering can and went to the balcony. She glanced down unintentionally.

Downstairs, even after confirming that she had returned home, the tall boy stood there with his hands in his pockets, still not leaving. When he saw her appear from the balcony, he clumsily imitated what Su Xi liked to watch in TV dramas, raising his hands above his head and making a big heart shape for Su Xi.

Su Xi looked at him, then glanced up at the snow in the sky, and smiled as she thought to herself that she must be poisoned by him, how could she like him a little more each day?

The author has something to say:

Staple food makes cats slim, while treats make them fat.

Before the Lunar New Year, Su Xi noticed that Bold’s belly was getting fatter every day, and it felt soft and squishy to the touch, which made her very happy.

When she returned to the apartment after the Lunar New Year, she was surprised to find that her cat had lost weight! Although it was still very well-proportioned, its little belly was gone.

What happened?

The fat cat glared at Lu Huan, meowing accusatorily— its owner had been gone for seven days, and this guy hadn’t given it any snacks at midnight for seven days! Meow, what kind of two-legged beastman does this? He only uses it, he has no heart for it!

Lu Huan: = =

Su Xi: What is it saying?

Lu Huan: It’s probably grateful that I’ve been so strict with its diet and fed it so well.
