Feeling the upstairs door open, Fu Ke looked up and saw Qin Long standing by the stairs.

Qin Long’s eyes widened in shock. He stared blankly at Fu Ke sitting on the sofa, her face expressionless, as if she were looking at an insignificant stranger.

Completely different from the ever-present dimpled smile he remembered, a wave of unease washed over him.

Memories of his past and present lives mingled, causing Qin Long’s brain to throb with pain, yet he remained frozen, expressionless.

Qin Long’s emotional turmoil puzzled Fu Ke.

Seeing that he was awake and unharmed, Fu Ke breathed a sigh of relief. However, she looked at him calmly and said, “Since you’re alright, leave.”

“You… saved me?” Qin Long’s throat was hoarse, whether from lack of water or something else, she couldn’t tell. Fu Ke looked into Qin Long’s eyes, the emotions within them unfathomable. However, determined to separate the past life’s Long Ge from the present Qin Long, Fu Ke looked away.

“It was just a coincidence, I didn’t really save you.”

Qin Long closed his eyes with a bitter smile, the hideous scar on his face contorting violently. He only hated, only hated why he couldn’t have been reborn sooner, but had to come back at this time.

At this moment, Qin Long greatly envied the skinny guy’s good fortune; he had been reborn before meeting Xiao Bai, and even though his encounter with Xiao Bai was tumultuous, it was still better than his current situation.

Thinking of how he had disappointed Xiao Bai, Qin Long suddenly lost even the courage to acknowledge her.

“I’m sorry.” Qin Long lowered his eyes, concealing the turmoil in his heart. “And, thank you.”

Fu Ke frowned slightly, looking at Qin Long suspiciously. Such intense emotional turmoil? Even when he learned she was a zombie, his emotions hadn’t been this turbulent.

“Can you… take me with you?” Suddenly, Qin Long seemed to have composed himself, the intense turmoil gradually calming down.

But what followed was tension.

Tension? Fu Ke was puzzled. What was he nervous about? Was he afraid she would refuse? The “no” that was about to escape her lips suddenly caught in her throat.

Looking at Qin Long’s expectant eyes, Fu Ke’s mood gradually became irritated.

She shouldn’t have waited for Qin Long to wake up before leaving; she should have left after leaving Qin Long here!

After Deng Yunfei woke up, he found that Xie Changyi hadn’t returned yet, so he immediately got out of bed and shook the other two: “Third brother, fourth brother, wake up! It’s already dawn, and the boss hasn’t come back yet!”

Hearing that their boss hadn’t returned, Xiang Jiuming and Mao Xinhua immediately woke up, opening their eyes and sitting up abruptly.

“What happened? Didn’t the boss say everything was safe?” Xiang Jiuming asked anxiously.

“How should I know?” Deng Yunfei said irritably, “Come on, let’s go out and look for him. Fourth brother, go see if Qin Long is back.”

Mao Xinhua was stunned: “You mean—”

“Don’t talk nonsense, I just want you to go and see, hurry up.” Deng Yunfei had a bad feeling. Hearing what Mao Xinhua was about to say, he naturally knew what Mao Xinhua wanted to say, and quickly shut him up.

“Okay, okay, then second brother and third brother, are you two going out to look for the boss?” Mao Xinhua asked, putting on his shoes.

“Stop talking nonsense, believe it or not, I’ll slap you!” Xiang Jiuming was also impatient with Mao Xinhua’s dawdling and couldn’t help but shout.

Mao Xinhua instantly ran out.

Deng Yunfei and Xiang Jiuming looked at each other, then turned around and went out, heading straight for the outside of the base. However, when they reached the door, they saw Liu Guo’an, who was alone and about to leave. Xiang Jiuming tugged at Deng Yunfei, raised his chin, and gestured for him to look at Liu Guo’an.

Deng Yunfei nodded, and the two brothers exchanged a glance, both seeing the relief in each other’s eyes. Liu Guo’an hadn’t gone out to collect supplies for a long time, and now he was going out alone, which undoubtedly sent a signal to them.

Their previous anxiety instantly subsided, and they walked over with their arms around each other’s shoulders and smiles: “Hey, isn’t this Squad Leader Liu? Going out to collect supplies?”

“What are you talking about? How could Squad Leader Liu go out to collect supplies?”

“What else could he be doing but collecting supplies? But, Squad Leader Liu, you’re too daring! You’re actually going out alone? Don’t think that just because Brother Qin Long goes out alone, we should follow his example.”

“Yeah, yeah, going out alone, you might lose your life.”

The two brothers said in unison, but Liu Guo’an looked at them expressionlessly, seemingly not angry at all.

After giving them a deep look, Liu Guo’an strode out.

Once Liu Guo’an was out of sight, Xiang Jiuming immediately asked the gatekeeper, “What did Liu Guo’an say to you just now?”

None of the rising stars in the base wanted to offend anyone, and those who had maintained neutrality were no longer willing to follow Liu Guo’an’s orders, so naturally, they wouldn’t keep secrets.

“Squad Leader Liu just asked me if anyone else went out last night besides Qin Long.”

“What did you answer?” Deng Yunfei narrowed his eyes dangerously, making the gatekeeper tremble.

“I said no!”

“Very good, a good answer.” Xiang Jiuming secretly patted the man’s shoulder; without asking, he knew Qin Long definitely hadn’t returned.

The two turned and walked back, calling Mao Xinhua, and the group went out together.

“The farther away, the more dangerous. The boss definitely wouldn’t act too far away. We’ll search step by step. Whether alive or dead, we must find him.”

Not returning all night meant the chances of something terrible was high.

However, since Qin Long hadn’t returned, they had a glimmer of hope.

But just as they set off, they saw Liu Guo’an driving towards them. Several people’s eyelids twitched, and they quickly dodged…

“Get in the car! Zombies, a huge horde of zombies!” Liu Guo’an shouted loudly, slamming on the brakes with a sharp screech that made everyone’s hearts tighten.

Mao Xinhua froze, unsure what to do, looking at Deng Yunfei and Xiang Jiuming.

Deng Yunfei gritted his teeth; Liu Guo’an had no reason to lie to them, and immediately said, “Get in the car.” The group quickly got into the car, and Liu Guo’an drove to the base entrance in an instant. Without even asking anyone to open the door, he abandoned the car, opened the door, and jumped out.

Xiang Jiuming and the others also hurriedly jumped out of the car.

“On alert! On alert! All ability users, prepare! Zombies are surrounding us, we’ll be in the minefield soon!” Liu Guo’an rushed into the base, shouting loudly.

However, many people looked at him but didn’t take it seriously.

“Squad Leader Liu, I heard you went out to collect supplies?” Xie Bajin walked over with a group of people and said sarcastically, “Didn’t we say before that no one was allowed to go out to collect supplies? Squad Leader Liu, you’re contradicting yourself. What, are you afraid of being questioned by everyone, so you’re using zombies to scare them again?”

Almost as soon as Liu Guo’an left, Xie Bajin and the others received the news and immediately concluded that Liu Guo’an had been playing a trick on them and deliberately used zombies to scare them.

Seeing Deng Yunfei and the others standing behind Liu Guo’an, Xie Bajin narrowed his eyes: “What, have Xie Changyi’s men all surrendered to Squad Leader Liu?”

Deng Yunfei paused, slowly placing his hands behind his head, looking indifferent: “Third and Fourth Brothers, let’s go.”

They hadn’t thought much before rushing back after Liu Guo’an shouted that zombies were coming. But were zombies really coming? Liu Guo’an had mentioned it before, but there hadn’t been any response.

Xiang Jiuming and Mao Xinhua followed Deng Yunfei. Only when there was no one around did Mao Xinhua finally ask, “Second Brother, what about Big Brother?”

Deng Yunfei’s face instantly darkened, and he said with difficulty, “If it really is zombies, Big Brother is in grave danger.”

Xiang Jiuming gave them both a wink.

The group looked up and saw Zhou Xu leading several superhumans swaggering over. Upon seeing them, he immediately smiled: “Hey, why are there only three of you? Where’s Xie Changyi? Don’t you guys usually follow him around like lackeys?”

“You—” Mao Xinhua rolled up his sleeves but was stopped by Deng Yunfei and Xiang Jiuming.

“Let’s go.” Deng Yunfei knew that with Xie Changyi gone, things were different now. Going against Zhou Xu and his group would only result in them suffering losses.

Zhou Xu watched Deng Yunfei and his group leave with some surprise, stroking his chin: “Something’s not right, they didn’t say a word?”

“Brother Zhou, Xie Bajin has already confronted Squad Leader Liu, shouldn’t we hurry up and go too?” Someone next to him couldn’t help but remind him when they saw Zhou Xu standing there.

“That’s right, business is important.” When Zhou Xu led his men to the base entrance, Xie Bajin’s men had already surrounded Liu Guo’an.

All that could be heard was Xie Bajin’s voice: “Squad Leader Liu, I think you should give us all a proper explanation, otherwise, how can you command respect?”

Command respect? Zhou Xu almost laughed. What did Liu Guo’an have to command respect?

He was practically powerless in the base; what did he have to do with commanding respect? Zhou Xu led his men over and said, “Make way, make way! What are you all doing here? Xie Bajin, aren’t you going too far? This base was handed over to Liu Guo’an by Squad Leader Zhang. Now it’s Liu Guo’an’s turn to call the shots. Who do you think you are?”

“Oh, Zhou Xu, so you’ve become a lackey? When did you start siding with Liu Guo’an?” Xie Bajin narrowed his eyes when he saw Zhou Xu actually speaking up for Liu Guo’an.

“Lackey? I was just telling the truth, Xie Bajin. If Squad Leader Zhang were here, would you dare talk to him like that?” Zhou Xu said disdainfully.

“Don’t fu**ing play the good guy here, Zhou Xu. We all know what you’re thinking!” Xie Bajin glared fiercely at Zhou Xu.

If he had superpowers, Zhou Xu wouldn’t be able to act so arrogantly! Superpowers!

Superpowers! Superpowers! Xie Bajin gritted his teeth. Why couldn’t he have superpowers? They could all make it through, so why couldn’t he?

Liu Guo’an stood in the center, suddenly speechless. No one would believe him anyway. He didn’t know how long the pit could hold off the zombies.

The explosives wouldn’t detonate without a superpowered individual igniting them; the pit and metal spikes should hold them off for a while. But without a superpowered individual to ignite them, and without the vines of a wood-type superpowered individual, the pit would soon be filled… and then the zombie corpses would form a bridge.

Liu Guo’an turned and left.

Xie Bajin and Zhou Xu were exchanging barbs, but Xie Bajin, with his sharp eyes, saw Liu Guo’an leaving and immediately abandoned Zhou Xu, calling out, “Squad Leader Liu, leaving already? Have you forgotten something?”

Liu Guo’an didn’t turn around, only coldly smiling as he said, “It’s my incompetence that I couldn’t help the squad leader defend this base. Since you don’t believe me, what else can I do? I can only wait to die here with you.”

Seeing Liu Guo’an’s despondent expression, Zhou Xu’s heart stirred.

“Roar—”

The roars of zombies echoed from all directions, near and far, and for a moment, the entire base fell silent.

“What’s going on?”

“Are the zombies really here?”

“Oh my god, what do we do? What are we going to do?”

Chaos erupted throughout the base. Liu Guo’an opened his mouth, but didn’t give any orders. He silently left, appearing calm and collected amidst the chaos, as if prepared to face his death.

Xie Bajin was stunned. He had always believed Liu Guo’an was just spouting nonsense, but now the roars of the zombies around him were real. He was speechless.

Seeing that Xie Changyi hadn’t appeared and Xie Bajin’s foolish behavior was enough, Zhou Xu immediately began to give orders.

Liu Guo’an had previously mentioned the defensive measures…

However, Zhou Xu suddenly thought of something and almost blurted out, “Who’s a fire-type ability user? Burn down the bridges over the moat!!”

When the moat was dug, wooden bridges were erected to collect supplies; there were two of them.

At this moment, the crowd was in complete chaos, a far cry from the orderly scene when Zhang Zhongmin was there. It seemed that their previous discipline had gradually disappeared after Zhang Zhongmin left.
