Liu Wei glanced at Shu Ming. He recognized Shu Ming; he was the grandson of the old woman who had been eaten a few days ago. The old woman’s flesh was too old; he hadn’t eaten a single bite.

“Shu Ming?” Liu Wei said strangely, “Shu Ming’s grandmother, shouldn’t you be asking about the group of people behind you? A while ago, Shu Ming, his grandmother, and the others disappeared at the same time.”

“You’re lying!” Wei Yu shouted urgently, “Grandma didn’t leave at all; she’s still in the base.”

Liu Wei helplessly spread his hands, “You can search the base as you like. The old woman hasn’t been in the base for a long time. I thought you took them both away.”

Lan Sheng looked at Liu Wei angrily. The old woman was definitely dead. These beasts wouldn’t just kill her and be done with it; she must have become their food.

But now there was no sign of her, neither alive nor dead, and Liu Wei was simply denying everything. Even they didn’t know what to do.

“Is that so?” Fu Ke’s bloodshot eyes gleamed.

“Of course, I have no reason to lie to you for an old lady, do I?” Liu Wei feigned composure, but cold sweat was seeping down his back. He knew that standing outside wasn’t just Fu Ke’s group, but also thousands of zombies.

Fu Ke nodded: “Your base is very well built. My children love it.”

Children? Lan Sheng and the others looked at Fu Ke in surprise. Was she referring to them?

Even the skinny guy was bewildered. What was Xiao Bai talking about?

“Children?” Liu Wei glanced at Qiu Yi and Ya Ya standing to the side, then at the zombies: “Of course. If you like it, this base is yours.”

Letting them in directly was impossible. If this woman were here, his position would be in jeopardy. It was better to simply hand over the base.

He could find another place to build his own base and still live a carefree and comfortable life.

In fact, if it weren’t for being surrounded by thousands of zombies, Liu Wei would have already taken action and wouldn’t be rambling on with Fu Ke.

“Alright, those in the base who want to stay can stay, and those who want to leave, I won’t stop them.” Fu Ke shrugged, appearing very easygoing.

“Fu Ke, you’re going to let them go?” Lan Sheng asked incredulously, pulling Fu Ke along.

“Let go.” The skinny man pulled out a large knife and glared dangerously at Lan Sheng.

Lan Sheng froze, only then realizing that in his haste, he had grabbed Fu Ke’s hand quite forcefully. So he quickly released her: “Sorry, I just felt that these people shouldn’t be let go like this.”

Fu Ke smiled: “You’ll follow me, but don’t try to control my thoughts. Remember, I’m not human, I’m a zombie.”

Lan Sheng’s expression froze. He opened his mouth, but didn’t know what to say. His eyes were somewhat dim. He clearly remembered that back at the abandoned factory, Fu Ke…

Shu Ming rushed over and grabbed Fu Ke’s hand, his fingers trembling as he wrote “Grandma” on Fu Ke’s palm.

Fu Ke slowly squatted down, her bloodshot eyes looking up at Shu Ming: “Grandma’s gone. How about I let you avenge Grandma yourself?”

Shu Ming froze, tears instantly rolling down his cheeks.

“If you don’t want to fight, I can help you get revenge. You don’t have to watch,” Fu Ke told Shu Ming seriously, letting him choose.

Lan Sheng was a little confused by Fu Ke’s meaning. Wasn’t she going to let the people inside leave? Why was she talking about avenging Shu Ming?

Surrounded by zombies, almost no one wanted to stay at the Radiant Base. But those ordinary people were not only afraid of the zombies, but also of Liu Wei. After all, Liu Wei had already revealed that he was using these people as food supplies. This made them tremble with fear.

But staying…

The base gate opened, and a large group of people, led by Liu Wei, stood at the entrance, warily watching the zombies at the gate. Just one look was enough to send chills down their spines.

“Let me warn you first, don’t even think about trying to attack them, or you’ll bear the consequences,” Fu Ke said, afraid that these people would have the audacity to try and dig for crystal cores.

After all, most of them were ability users, and crystal cores were valuable to them.

“Get in the car!” In a short time, a lot of things were collected. Liu Wei waved his hand, and everyone got into the car.

“Wait.” Fu Ke’s voice rang out, freezing the group preparing to board the vehicle in place.

Fu Ke looked at the pregnant woman, child, and other men and women they were guarding, trying to take them onto the vehicle: “Did they all leave voluntarily?”

The pregnant woman, terrified by Fu Ke’s bloodshot eyes, turned deathly pale, clutching her belly and trembling uncontrollably.

“I…we are leaving voluntarily, we are leaving this base willingly,” the pregnant woman said tremulously.

“Even if they treat you and your child as food supplies, you still want to leave?” Fu Ke asked, taking two steps back, seeing the pregnant woman’s frightened state.

To be eaten by zombies, or by humans? For a moment, the pregnant woman felt utterly lost, with no way out.

The pregnant woman’s man stood in front of her, glaring at Fu Ke: “We are leaving the base willingly, with the base leader and the others.”

The man’s plan was sound; in the zombie horde, there was absolutely no hope of escape. But Liu Wei and the others were, after all, humans, weren’t they? Although there were humans with Fu Ke, the sheer number of zombies was terrifying.

Perhaps these humans were just like them, sent here as food supplies.

“Miss, can we leave now?” Liu Wei asked smugly, a smirk playing on his lips.

“Yes, you can go.” Fu Ke stepped aside, and the zombies quickly cleared a wider path for them. She had already warned them, but they didn’t believe her, and Fu Ke couldn’t force them to stay.

The vehicles were packed.

“Wait, wait for us, there’s still us—”

“Don’t leave us behind, please, please take us with you!”

“Base Commander, take us with you, please don’t leave us here—”

Once Liu Wei left with the others, the remaining people went berserk, no longer caring whether Liu Wei considered them food supplies, screaming and crying, begging him to take them away.

However, the vehicles couldn’t fit everyone, so a large portion of the base remained.

“You can leave if you want, don’t worry. The zombies around the base won’t attack you today.” Fu Ke’s bloodshot eyes stared at the people crying and shouting at the base entrance, yet too afraid to come out.

Shu Ming tugged at Fu Ke and wrote the character “I” on Fu Ke’s hand.

Fu Ke immediately smiled: “You want to take revenge yourself?”

Shu Ming nodded firmly, clearly having made up his mind.

“Killing is terrifying, aren’t you afraid?” Fu Ke patted Shu Ming’s head; although Shu Ming was older than Qiu Yi, they looked about the same size.

Killing— Shu Ming hesitated again.

But this time he quickly made up his mind. Those who eat human flesh didn’t deserve to be human. He wasn’t killing people!

So he immediately made up his mind and shook his head at Fu Ke.

Fu Ke looked at Liu Wei and his group, who had already driven far away, and then at the ordinary people in the base who wanted to leave but were afraid of the zombies.

“Lu Xun.”

“What is it?” Lu Xun came over when he heard Fu Ke call him.

“After dark, take Shu Ming to find them. I’ll tell you which direction they went. Take Xiao Hei with you too.” Fu Ke patted Shu Ming’s head.

After a while, some people mustered up their courage and rushed out of the base with their families, their eyes closed. After finding that the zombies really didn’t attack them, they seemed to have survived a disaster and hurriedly left. One after another, the remaining people in the base gradually left.

Before long, the base was completely empty.

Fu Ke led her men inside and looked at the situation inside the base. The base walls were well-built, and the gate was also very sturdy, but the inside looked very desolate.

“The base is still too small; it seems we need to expand.” Fu Ke looked around. Behind the base was a large mountain, and almost all the animals on the mountain had been infected and mutated.

However, they were all small and not very aggressive, so there was nothing to fear.

These animals still retained their pre-mutation traits, so they were particularly afraid of people, unlike in the novels. The only similarity was that the meat of these animals was inedible because the flesh and blood of the mutated animals also contained the virus.

“This base is more than enough for our twenty people. Even if more people join later, that’s a matter for the future. This base can still accommodate two or three thousand people,” Song Jing said.

“Who said we only have twenty-odd people?” Fu Ke turned to look at Song Jing.

Song Jing was taken aback: “Isn’t that right?”

“Of course not.” Fu Ke observed the base. Most of the buildings were single-story, and the construction of the houses was very old, with many alleyways.

Finally, Fu Ke chose what appeared to be the best house in the base, a small house with blue tiles: “I’ll live here. You can choose the other places, but preferably around this area. I’ll set aside the other side to house the zombies.”

Song Jing’s breath hitched. She instantly understood why Fu Ke had said there were more than twenty. Who else were there? There were so many zombies outside that they could easily flatten the base.

“Skinny, I don’t think ‘Radiant Base’ sounds good. Let’s call it ‘Sunrise Base’ instead,” Fu Ke said, squinting.

“I think so too,” Skinny laughed.

After everyone had settled in, the zombies outside the base dispersed. While Xiao Hei led a small group of zombies into the base.

However, while leading the zombies, Xiao Hei discovered that a human had fainted in the zombie horde outside.

Xiao Hei tilted its head, looking at the unconscious human, who seemed not to be waking up yet. It then reached out its claws, grabbed the person’s collar, and dragged them back.

Meanwhile, in the underground research institute far away in T City…

“Professor, Professor! Something terrible has happened! Subject Eight has escaped!” A man in a white lab coat frantically opened the door and shouted to the professor inside.

Professor Gu’s expression changed: “What? Didn’t I tell you to inject the anaesthetic three times a day? How could it escape?”

Gu Ming, Professor Gu’s assistant and nephew, knew Professor Gu’s temper wasn’t good, and so his face turned deathly pale: “I… I did inject it on time. But, Subject Eight seems to have developed an antibody to the anaesthetic, it’s… it’s no longer effective on him.”

No longer effective? Professor Gu immediately tensed up: “Quickly, send people to search for Subject Eight. He has a tracking chip on him; we must find him no matter what. Also, check the other subjects; we absolutely cannot make any more mistakes!”

Even if Professor Gu wanted to get angry, there was no time for that now. Such a huge oversight had occurred, and it had to be fixed immediately.

Moreover, he himself hadn’t expected that this modified anaesthetic, specifically designed for zombies, would actually cause zombies to develop antibodies, and gradually the anaesthetic would lose its effect.

Number Eight escaped, which meant the other test subjects were likely also gradually developing antibodies to the anaesthetic.

The surveillance footage showed that Number Eight who seemed to have developed cognitive abilities, changed into researchers’ clothes, and left the underground research facility.

Immediately, the underground research facility’s search team went out with locators to look for Number Eight.

“It can actually think, and it can even change clothes…” Professor Gu gritted his teeth: “This is clearly no longer a Level 5 zombie. Level 5 zombies only have rudimentary cognitive abilities; they can’t possibly be like Number Eight.”

“No, send out another team. Number Eight is of utmost importance. We must find him.”

“Professor, I’ll go right now.”

After examination, it was discovered that these zombies had indeed gradually developed antibodies to the anaesthetic. The zombies’ limbs could already move slightly.

While Professor Gu had people researching new anaesthetics, he squinted at the video of Number Eight’s escape.

Only he had access to the surveillance footage of the room where Number Eight was kept, so he saw a portion that the monitoring room couldn’t see.
