Tang Tang placed a soup dumpling into the little guy’s bowl. “Baby, try Mommy’s soup dumpling! Be careful, it’s hot! Blow on the soup inside before you eat.”

The little guy looked up at Tang Tang, then lowered his head to eat the dumpling. He carefully bit open a small hole, then blew on it, his chubby little chin puffing out like a cute little hamster.

Tang Tang then served the little guy a bowl of porridge, blowing on it to make sure it wouldn’t be too hot before putting it in front of him.

The little guy may be small, but he had quite an appetite. He ate a whole bowl of porridge and then five soup dumplings before putting the bowl down. Tang Tang was worried he was overeating and kept glancing at his little belly.

Realizing he’d eaten too much, the little guy blushed, clutched his belly, scrambled off the chair, ran to the sofa, grabbed his little backpack, and rushed out the door.

Tang Tang knew the little guy was embarrassed, so she quickly called out to him, “Baby, Mommy will take you downstairs. Don’t go yet, wait for Mommy, okay?”

The little one paused for a moment, then continued putting on his shoes.

Tang Tang had no choice but to say, “Baby, Mommy’s leg is hurt, I can’t keep up with you. Slow down and wait for Mommy, or Mommy will fall.”

Hearing this, the little one noticeably slowed down his shoe-putting movements.

By the time Tang Tang had packed the pastries, put on her shoes, and chased after him, the little one hadn’t left yet, but was standing outside the door waiting. Only when he saw Tang Tang come out did he start walking towards the elevator.

Tang Tang immediately followed the little one into the elevator, but she had no idea how to use it. She was initially nervous about what to do, but then realized it was unnecessary, because the little one was very clever and operated the whole thing without her having to lift a finger. Tang Tang felt like the little one was taking care of her, and she immediately felt embarrassed. She made up her mind that she must learn everything about this world properly, and not be less capable than a child.

When they arrived at the school bus stop, the bus hadn’t come yet. Tang Tang handed the little boy the lunchbox filled with pastries. “Baby, this is red bean cake Mommy made for you. Take it to kindergarten and eat some when you’re hungry. Just bring the lunchbox back tonight.”

Ji Xiaozhuo gave Tang Tang a complicated look, silently accepted the lunchbox, and held it tightly in his arms. Just then, the school bus arrived, and the little boy boarded without looking back. However, as he got on the bus, he secretly glanced at Tang Tang outside the window.

Tang Tang caught his gaze and immediately waved to him, “Goodbye, baby! Mommy will pick you up after school.”

Ji Xiaozhuo turned his head away, but held the lunchbox even tighter, as if it were the most precious treasure.

Sitting next to Ji Xiaozhuo was a chubby little girl, also from the same neighborhood, who knew Ji Xiaozhuo somewhat. So she asked Ji Xiaozhuo, “Ji Xiaozhuo, was that your mother just now?”

Ji Xiaozhuo nodded.

“Wow! You have a mom? I didn’t know that. I’ve never seen her bring you anything before.”

Ji Xiaozhuo looked down at the small lunchbox in his arms, emphasizing, “I have a mom!”

The little girl, seeing the lunchbox Ji Xiaozhuo was holding, immediately became interested and asked, “What are you holding? It smells so good.”

Ji Xiaozhuo’s lips subtly curled up, but he tried hard to suppress it, keeping a straight face as he said, “This is red bean cake that my mom made for me to take to kindergarten. She was afraid I’d be hungry.”

The little girl was immediately envious, swallowed hard, and held up a finger, asking pleadingly, “Can I have a piece? Just one.”

Ji Xiaozhuo immediately clutched his lunchbox and shook his head, “No, this is what my mom made for me. Ask your mom to make you some.”

The little girl pouted in disappointment and huffed, “Ji Xiaozhuo, you’re so stingy! It’s just red bean cake, it’s not tasty at all, I don’t want to eat it.”

Ji Xiaozhuo blinked and quietly put his schoolbag on top of the lunchbox to hide it.

The little girl was almost crying with anger.

Tang Tang didn’t know what happened in the bus. She was much happier when she got home.

Afterward, she first washed all the dirty clothes at home, and then cleaned the house. Because of her leg injury, it was past noon by the time she finished. By then Tang Tang was too tired to move, so she just took some fruit from the refrigerator to eat to stave off hunger, and then turned on the TV to continue learning about this world.

Tang Tang was engrossed in watching until it was almost time to pick up her little one from school. After leaving the house, she followed Aunt Li’s example and hailed a green taxi, telling the driver the name of her little one’s kindergarten. After the car drove away smoothly, she couldn’t help but give herself a thumbs up in her mind. Her first ride in this world’s car was a success!

Tang Tang, you’re amazing!

When she arrived at the kindergarten, there were very few people at the gate. Tang Tang realized she was early, so she walked to the fence and leaned against the wall to wait, her eyes fixed on the inside of the kindergarten, thinking that she needed to learn how to read the time in this world as soon as possible so that things would be easier for her in the future.

After waiting for what seemed like forever, kindergarten finally let out. The children were led out by their teachers, and Tang Tang spotted her little one immediately. The little guy was still clutching his little lunchbox from this morning, not even wanting to put it in his backpack.

He immediately looked towards the fence, and when his eyes met Tang Tang’s, he calmly turned away and solemnly began queuing, as if it were a very serious matter. But every now and then, he would sneak a glance back at Tang Tang before quickly turning away, leaving Tang Tang both amused and exasperated.

The teacher had already met Tang Tang yesterday, so she felt comfortable entrusting the little one to her. She said, “Xiao Zhuo’s mom, our kindergarten will be having summer vacation in a few days. Before the vacation, we’ll be holding an end-of-term ceremony where the children will perform. Our kindergarten hopes that every parent can come and watch, to cheer on the children. I wonder if Xiao Zhuo’s mom and dad can come?”

The teacher asked this because no one from their family came last year; Ji Xiaozhuo had said his parents were too busy. But the teacher hoped they could attend this year.

Tang Tang didn’t know what an end-of-term ceremony was, but she understood the teacher’s general meaning: the kindergarten was holding an event similar to a banquet, inviting the children’s parents. Tang Tang naturally wouldn’t refuse; if everyone else’s parents came, and Xiao Zhuo was the only one without them, how sad the child would be.

She absolutely had to come.

Tang Tang thus nodded to the teacher, “Teacher, I’ll definitely come, but Xiao Zhuo’s dad is a bit busy, I don’t know if he’ll have time.”

The teacher smiled and said, “It’s alright, it’s fine as long as you can come. It would be even better if Xiao Zhuo’s dad had time too.”

“Okay, teacher.”

After speaking with the teacher, Tang Tang took the little guy’s hand and led him home. This time, the little guy didn’t shake off, but he just acted cool and didn’t pay much attention to her.

But Tang Tang was already very satisfied.

When Tang Tang got home, she found the lunchbox she had given the little guy that morning was empty; all the pastries inside had been eaten. She couldn’t help but ask, “Baby, were the pastries Mommy made delicious?”

The little guy, with his bottom sticking up on the sofa, hesitated for a long time before finally replying, his voice sounding strained, “They were alright.”

Tang Tang chuckled to herself, “Okay then, Mommy will make them for you again tomorrow. How about we make some jujube and yam cake? That’s delicious too.”

The little guy coolly replied, “Whatever.”

Tang Tang resisted the urge to pat his chubby little bottom and went over to see what he was doing. She found him staring at the tablet again; she knew perfectly well he was waiting for a message from his father.

This little guy must really miss his dad.

To distract the little one, Tang Tang said, “Baby, you taught me how to talk using this yesterday, and I’ve learned it all, thank you, baby.”

The little one finally looked up at her, asking like a little teacher, “Did you really learn it?”

Tang Tang nodded seriously, “Really, I learned it.”

The little teacher solemnly pushed the tablet towards Tang Tang, “Just talking isn’t enough, you have to show me.”

“Huh?” Tang Tang didn’t expect him to check. Did he have to talk to her husband now? No, no, she wasn’t ready.

Seeing Tang Tang not moving, the little one puffed out his cheeks and said, “Didn’t you say you knew it? Then show me, say something to Daddy.”

Seeing how serious the little one was, Tang Tang couldn’t refuse. She could only grit her teeth and suppress her nervousness, take a deep breath, pick up the tablet, press the bottom button with her index finger, and nervously began to speak, “Husband… husband, you… you take care of yourself, don’t worry about me and baby.”

After saying that, she immediately released her index finger, nervously looking at the screen, wondering if she had done it correctly.

The little one pointed his chubby little finger at the voice message she had just sent, and immediately played back what Tang Tang had said: “Husband, take good care of yourself, okay? Don’t worry about me and the baby.”

Tang Tang was amazed and quickly asked, “Baby, did Mommy say it right?”

The little one nodded with a reluctant satisfaction, “Yes, Daddy will see and hear it.”

The thought of the little one’s father hearing her made Tang Tang’s heart pound. She wondered what his reaction would be; he’d probably find it strange, since she was very different from the original owner of this body, and even her speech was different. But there was nothing she could do. She couldn’t imitate the original owner’s way of speaking, and she couldn’t possibly curse him. Her husband was so good; how could she curse him? Not only could she not curse him, but she also had to treat the baby’s father well in the future. She would be supported by him, eating his food and living in his house; how could she not treat him well? Besides, as a wife, taking care of her husband and child was her duty. She was now the baby’s father’s wife and the baby’s mother; of course, she had to do it well.

….

In the early hours of the morning, at a special forces base thousands of miles away, the light was still on in an office. There a tall figure sat at a desk, engrossed in writing a report.

Then the door opened, and a man in his early thirties in military uniform walked in, dragging a chair over and sitting down. “Hey Lao Ji, you just got back, why are you in such a hurry to write a report? Aren’t you tired after all these days? Your eyes are red.”

Ji Yan didn’t even look up, his face expressionless, his tone flat. “It’s nothing, I’ll go back to sleep after I finish.”

“Lao Ji, how many days off are you going to take? Are you going back to see Xiao Zhuo? The little guy hasn’t heard from you for so many days, he must miss you.”
