After tossing and turning for over two hours without falling asleep, Ji Xiaozhuo gave up. He got up, opened the door, and ran to Nuo Nuo’s room, ready to ask her who she liked. But he hesitated at the last second, unwilling to wake her. So he lowered his hand, scratched his head in frustration, and went back to his room.
He took out his phone, found Monkey’s number, and called. As soon as the call connected, Monkey said, “Can’t sleep? Play games with me.”
Monkey, who was sound asleep and forced to wake up, said, “Brother Zhuo, you can’t sleep?”
“…Yeah.”
Monkey immediately cursed inwardly, becoming a little more awake. He then excitedly got up, “Brother Zhuo, are you… something wrong? Hehehe.”
Ji Xiaozhuo’s face darkened. “Get lost! I must have been blind to contact such a sleazy person like you.” He then hung up the phone.
Monkey hummed into the phone, “He’s probably just too embarrassed to admit it. We’re all men, we all know what’s there to be embarrassed about, hehe. Looks like I need to rescue this insomniac from his misery.”
Two minutes later, still awake, Ji Xiaozhuo received a video file from Monkey, titled: “Insomnia Cure Miracle.”
Ji Xiaozhuo was already struggling to sleep, and seeing the title, he assumed Monkey was sending him some kind of hypnosis video. Intrigued, he put on his headphones and started watching.
Ten minutes later, the scene of the male and female protagonists in a passionate embrace, along with the female protagonist’s seductive moans, made Ji Xiaozhuo feel like he’d been fu**ed. His face flushed red; he’d been tricked into watching porn for the first time in his life.
Ji Xiaozhuo gritted his teeth, “You damn monkey, I’m going to beat you to death tomorrow.”
At their age, they were of course curious about sex, especially since boys’ sexual awareness awakened earlier than girls’. Many boys watched those kinds of videos. Ji Xiaozhuo knew this, but he wasn’t interested. He always refused invitations to watch; he felt he’d rather play ball than watch such unhealthy things.
So, seeing this without knowing the context, he immediately blushed, turned off the video, buried his face in the blanket, and closed his eyes to try and fall asleep.
Nuo Nuo sat at her desk doing her homework, her back straight, one end of her pen in her mouth, her brow slightly furrowed, seemingly struggling with a problem.
She must have encountered a question she couldn’t answer.
Seeing this, Ji Xiaozhuo smiled, walked over, and took the pen from her mouth. “How many times have I told you? You can’t bite your pen, it’s disgusting.”
Nuo Nuo smiled, her watery eyes looking at him, silently promising never to bite it again.
He was always helpless against her; as long as she smiled, no matter how angry he was, it would vanish.
He sighed helplessly and sat down beside her. “What don’t you understand? I’ll explain it to you.”
Nuo Nuo quickly pointed to the problem she didn’t understand with her slender, white fingers. His gaze lingered on her delicate fingers for two seconds, his chest tightening slightly. He forced himself to look away from the problem and slowly explained it to her.
His explanation made everything clear to Nuo Nuo, and she smiled sweetly at him as always. “Brother Zhuo, you’re so amazing!”
He felt incredibly relieved. Then he leaned closer. “So, how are you going to thank me?”
Nuo Nuo smiled shyly, and like she did in kindergarten, then she slowly leaned in and kissed him on the cheek, then quickly pulled away, her cheeks flushed and exceptionally beautiful.
He stared blankly at her face so close to his, suddenly realizing that his little Nuo Nuo had grown up without him noticing. She was no longer the little girl she used to be, but a beautiful young woman, incredibly beautiful, especially her two large, watery eyes that could draw your heart in.
He felt his heart pounding uncontrollably; she seemed to possess a special attraction, drawing him unconsciously closer and closer to her.
“Brother Zhuo, what are you doing?” Nuo Nuo asked, looking at him, confused.
He didn’t hear what she said, only seeing her red lips moving, he felt inexplicably thirsty, wanting to taste her lips.
Driven by this thirst, he leaned closer to her, opened his mouth, and kissed her red lips, sucking desperately.
Sweet, so sweet, so sweet he didn’t want to let go, so sweet he wanted to absorb more, not just kiss her, but also touch her. His hand followed his heart, reaching under the hem of her clothes, his fingers touching her smooth skin, feeling his whole body boiling with desire.
“Xiao Zhuo—”
At the crucial moment, a shout jolted Ji Xiaozhuo instantly from the erotic scene. His eyes snapped open, and all he saw was a white ceiling; he was lying on his own bed.
He touched his heart; the rapid pounding was still audible, but he was alone in the room…
He shifted his body, and the sticky sensation below made him acutely aware of what had happened.
Ji Xiaozhuo’s face instantly turned ashen. He simply couldn’t believe his dream. He had shamefully dreamt of such a thing, and the subject was Nuo Nuo.
Nuo Nuo was his sister, his sister he’d grown up with! How could he have such a dream!
Ji Xiaozhuo had never felt such self-loathing before. He even wondered if he’d lost his mind; otherwise, how could he have such a dream?
Just as Ji Xiaozhuo’s mind was becoming increasingly muddled, Tang Tang knocked on the door again. “Xiao Zhuo, get up quickly, you’ll be late if you don’t get up soon.”
Ji Xiaozhuo had no choice but to suppress his chaotic thoughts, throw off the covers, and get out of bed. “Mom, I know, I’m getting up.”
Hearing the reply, Tang Tang felt relieved and turned to prepare breakfast for them.
Ji Xiaozhuo went to the bathroom to change his underwear. Although he didn’t show any outward signs when he came out, only he knew the complexity of his inner feelings. Especially after seeing Nuo Nuo, his eyes couldn’t help but linger on her, making him feel like a beast.
For the rest of the day, Ji Xiaozhuo was lost in thought, his mind uncontrollably replaying last night’s dream. He knew he shouldn’t think about it, but he just couldn’t control himself. He really didn’t know why he was like this, but he couldn’t ask anyone. Helpless, he took out his phone and posted a question on a forum:
“Why would I dream about being intimate with a girl? I’ve always considered her my younger sister. Am I out of my mind?”
Many people replied instantly.
“OP, you’re not out of your mind, you just have feelings for this girl.”
“OP, how old are you? How can you be so naive? Do you even need to ask? You definitely have ulterior motives, every man understands.”
“OP, stop deceiving yourself. ‘Sister’ is just an excuse. You definitely don’t see her as a sister, unless you’re a pervert.”
“I agree with the comment above, you clearly like her, stop fooling yourself with ‘sister’.”
“OP, if you want to know your own feelings, just stare at that girl and imagine kissing her. If you don’t feel repulsed but rather excited and expectant, then you undoubtedly have feelings for her.”
Seeing the last reply, Ji Xiaozhuo clenched his fist, and after a long while, turned to look at Nuo Nuo’s profile as she listened attentively to the lesson.
If he were to kiss her now, he was horrified to find that he really didn’t feel any repulsion. Not only did he not feel repulsed, he also really wanted to kiss her delicate cheek, just like in his dreams.
Could it be that he really liked Nuo Nuo?
Ji Xiaozhuo was a calm person, and all his previous irrationality had been directed at Nuo Nuo. Now, forcing himself to calm down and look at his attitude towards Nuo Nuo from a third-person perspective, he suddenly realized something was indeed amiss.
He didn’t like Nuo Nuo interacting with other boys, he didn’t like Nuo Nuo ignoring him, and he couldn’t even accept Nuo Nuo having a boyfriend. He used to think it was because early relationships were bad, but now he realized it wasn’t for that reason; he simply couldn’t accept Nuo Nuo liking other boys.
If Nuo Nuo liked him, he seemed… not to object at all.
Ji Xiaozhuo’s eyes widened suddenly. The answer he had come to left him with an extremely complex mix of emotions: surprise, shock, panic, and a hint of barely concealed joy.
So, he didn’t see Nuo Nuo as a sister; his feelings for her weren’t familial, but romantic.
Ji Xiaozhuo sat quietly for a while, processing this fact, then suddenly couldn’t help but tap his head and laugh.
Nuo Nuo heard the soft laughter, turned to look at him in confusion, and silently asked with her eyes what was wrong.
Ji Xiaozhuo stared at her face without speaking, his smile deepening, making Nuo Nuo’s heart skip a beat. She awkwardly turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
After school, Monkey brought a group of his basketball team to find Ji Xiaozhuo to play. “Brother Zhuo, come play with us tonight! The people from No. 2 Middle School want to play a game with us, we can’t do without you!”
Ji Xiaozhuo glanced at Nuo Nuo and Zhu Zixiao walking side-by-side not far away, shook off his hand, and waved to them as he walked away, “I’m really busy today, I have to take Nuo Nuo home.”
The group, having been stood up again:
“Have you guys noticed that Brother Zhuo has been hanging around Nuo Nuo a lot lately? Is something we don’t know about?”
“Yeah, why is Brother Zhuo suddenly insisting on personally taking Nuo Nuo home? Zhu Zixiao could have done it; they’re going the same way anyway.”
Monkey stroked his chin, looking at Nuo Nuo walking in the distance, and said, “I think it’s understandable. Our Nuo Nuo is so pretty. Middle school isn’t as safe as elementary school; there are so many wolves around. Brother Zhuo has to keep an eye on her. If I had such a pretty and smart sister, I’d watch her every day too.”
The others immediately agreed, finally understanding why Ji Xiaozhuo chose to take his sister home instead of playing basketball.
Brother Zhuo is such a good brother!
Ji Xiaozhuo, the “good brother” everyone was talking about, parked his bicycle next to Nuo Nuo. “Nuo Nuo, get on, I’ll take you home.”
Nuo Nuo glanced at Zhu Zixiao, who was with her, and was about to refuse, but Zhu Zixiao waved his hand first, saying, “Nuo Nuo, you go ahead. I don’t want to walk anymore anyway, I’ll take a taxi back.”
Nuo Nuo nodded and obediently got on the back of Ji Xiaozhuo’s bicycle.
Ji Xiaozhuo gave Zhu Zixiao a satisfied look and sped away.
Zhu Zixiao wiped the sweat from his forehead and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. If he hadn’t been sensible, he figured Brother Zhuo would have punished him. He didn’t know what was wrong, but lately, the way Brother Zhuo looked at him was creepy, like he was a wolf eyeing Nuo Nuo, but he clearly treated Nuo Nuo like a little sister, and he wouldn’t dare to make a move on her.
Ji Xiaozhuo rode his bike quickly with Nuo Nuo on the back, but instead of taking her home, he took her directly to the riverbank, where they sat facing the wind and looked at the water.
Nuo Nuo was confused. “Why did you bring me here? Aren’t we going home? Auntie must be waiting for us.”
Ji Xiaozhuo looked into the distance. “I’ve already told Mom, it’s okay if we go home a little later.”
“Oh.” Nuo Nuo didn’t ask any more questions and just sat down next to him.
Ji Xiaozhuo took a deep breath. The confusion in his mind had dissipated. He was now perfectly clear-headed. If he liked someone, he liked them; there was no need to hide it. A grown man should be straightforward. If you like someone, you should go for it. After all, Nuo Nuo wasn’t his biological sister. Strictly speaking, they were childhood sweethearts, which was perfect.
However, they were still too young. He estimated that Nuo Nuo hadn’t even realized it as much as he had. Making a move now would indeed be too ruthless. But the thought that Nuo Nuo already had someone she liked made him uneasy. What if he didn’t make a move and someone else did? He couldn’t keep an eye on Nuo Nuo every second.
Nuo Nuo was his; no one else could touch her, so the way to avoid this situation was to strike first.
Therefore, he brought her here.
Clearing his throat, Ji Xiaozhuo said, “Nuo Nuo, I brought you here today because I have something to tell you.”
Nuo Nuo looked at him and hummed in agreement, quietly waiting for him to speak.
Ji Xiaozhuo clenched his fist, pressing it to his lips. “Nuo Nuo, do you really have someone you like?”
Nuo Nuo nodded.
A hint of sadness flashed in Ji Xiaozhuo’s eyes, but he continued, “If another boy liked you, someone you grew up with, and who treats you very well, would you consider accepting him?”
Nuo Nuo’s eyelashes trembled, and she slowly raised her head to look into his eyes. “…Who?”
Ji Xiaozhuo gritted his teeth. “Who else could it be but a boy you grew up with and who treats you very well?”
Nuo Nuo blinked, her mouth slightly open, looking silly.
Ji Xiaozhuo couldn’t help but pinch her silly face, asking gruffly, “Tell me, will you accept or not?”
Nuo Nuo’s face was pinched into a bun, but she didn’t care. She stared blankly at Ji Xiaozhuo for a while before gently nodding.
Now it was Ji Xiaozhuo’s turn to be dumbfounded. She nodded so easily? He had prepared for rejection, even having prepared countless contingency plans, but now he didn’t need any of them?
“Nuo Nuo, you know what nodding means, right?”
Nuo Nuo nodded again with her big, clear eyes.
Ji Xiaozhuo immediately grinned, pulling Nuo Nuo into his arms and giving her a good rub. “You nodded, so I’ll take that as a yes. You can’t go back on your word later, or I’ll spank your little bottom!”
Nuo Nuo obediently nodded again.
Not at all ashamed of threatening her after confessing his feelings, Ji Xiaozhuo let out a satisfied howl at the river. The next second, he picked Nuo Nuo up from the ground and spun her around, scaring her so much that she clung to his neck, but he refused to let go until she was almost dizzy before he finally put her down.
Ji Xiaozhuo lifted Nuo Nuo’s chin, looking at her like a bully, threateningly saying, “Wen Nuo, from now on you’re my girlfriend, understand?”
Nuo Nuo pursed her lips and nodded.
“No matter who you liked before, you can’t like anyone anymore, understand?”
Nuo Nuo nodded again.
“From now on, you can only like me, understand?”
Nuo Nuo could only nod.
“Very good.” Although he had intimidated her into agreeing, Ji Xiaozhuo was still overjoyed and couldn’t help but bend down and kiss her forehead. “Nuo Nuo is so good.”
Nuo Nuo lowered her head, a secret smile playing on her lips. He thought she had agreed because of intimidation, little did he know, he was the person she had been waiting for for a very, very long time.
She never wanted to be Ji Xiaozhuo’s sister; she wanted to be his lover for life.
From the moment he brought her home from kindergarten, her heart told her that she wanted to be with him forever.
Fortunately, the result of all her efforts did not disappoint her.
He still came.
