Cheng Xuening’s face stiffened slightly, forcing a gentle and charming smile.

“Yun Zheng, I’m doing this for your own good, aren’t I? Don’t you like Brother Tianzhi the most? Since Brother Tianzhi is on holiday at the factory, I brought him here to see you.”

Huo Beiyu’s expression turned cold, his face instantly becoming as cold as ice.

Qin Baishi and the others also looked displeased. If Cheng Xuening had come alone or brought someone else, they would have already politely driven her away.

But she brought Xu Tianzhi, and they knew best how much Yun Zheng had liked Xu Tianzhi before.

Although Yun Zheng said she didn’t miss him anymore, women were often two-faced, and the Qin family didn’t dare to act rashly, just waiting for Yun Zheng to speak.

Yun Zheng slowly wiped her hands clean, revealing a faint smile. “Let’s talk outside.”

The Qin family couldn’t help but sigh, afraid that Yun Zheng would be confused again, but seeing Yun Zheng’s ambiguous smile, they felt that Yun Zheng wouldn’t fall into the other party’s trap again.

“Okay, okay.” Cheng Xuening didn’t notice the odd tone in Yun Zheng’s voice, assuming she’d lost her mind again after seeing Xu Tianzhi. She followed her out of the courtyard with a smug look on her face.

Turning around, she glanced at their dining table, surprised at how well the Qin family lived. It wasn’t a holiday, yet they were eating so much meat! She’d have to get Yun Zheng to give her all of it later!

Once in the courtyard, Cheng Xuening flashed her signature smile, “Yun Zheng, you have guests? Who’s that man sitting across from you?”

She immediately spotted Huo Beiyu, her heart pounding. She’d never seen such a handsome man before; how could he be involved with Yun Zheng?

Yun Zheng curled her lips in mockery, “What, you want to find out his information from me before shamelessly trying to seduce him again?”

Cheng Xuening’s face flushed instantly, looking like she was about to cry.

“Qin Yunzheng, what kind of attitude is this? Xue Ning is so good to you, how can you be so rude? Apologize to her right now!”

Xu Tianzhi said indignantly on Cheng Xuening’s behalf. He had been dissatisfied with Yun Zheng’s words as soon as he entered the door.

This was the man the original owner was so infatuated with. Dressed in military green canvas clothes, he was indeed handsome and refined, and in the countryside, he was considered outstanding in appearance. In the 1980s, poets were definitely superstars. Every literary youth had a copy of the Misty Poetry Collection. As long as a poem was published, he would be favored by many girls.

Xu Tianzhi attracted the original owner and Cheng Xuening precisely because he had written a few corny love poems that were published in magazines. However, even the most outstanding men had been seen, and Xu Tianzhi, who was like a shoe-shiner, was disgusting.

Yun Zheng sneered, “What are you? Do you think you’re worthy of my opinion?”

Xu Tianzhi’s expression changed drastically. He did not expect that Yun Zheng, who always blushed and fawned over him when she saw him, would not take him seriously at all. He could not see a trace of affection on her face.

Cheng Xuening bit her lip. “Yun Zheng, it’s fine if you target me, but this is Tianzhi! Didn’t you say your biggest wish in this life was to marry him?”

“Qin Yunzheng, you know I look down on you,” Xu Tianzhi said self-satisfiedly.

“So don’t try anything funny. This game of cat and mouse will only make me hate you more.”

Yun Zheng rolled her eyes. “You look down on me, yet you still eat the food I give you, and you even have a job at the factory. If my second brother hadn’t given you that opportunity, you’d probably be digging somewhere in the ground right now.”

The planned economy still dominated; having a job meant lifelong security. The state would take care of you from birth to death— a guaranteed job. Xu Tianzhi, a sent-down youth, wouldn’t have been worthy of working in the factory if he hadn’t coaxed the original owner into giving him Qin Yang’s job. He was using the original owner to leech off her while pretending to be high and mighty, saying he looked down on her— it was disgusting!

“Qin Yunzheng, didn’t you say you liked me and would give me anything I wanted?” Xu Tianzhi said in a matter-of-fact tone. “Let me tell you, if you still want me to talk to you, you’d better return everything you took from the Cheng family right now, including the meat and grain from your family. Give it all to Xue Ning; she’s your sister, and look how malnourished she is. Doesn’t your conscience hurt?”
