Jiang Chi’s whereabouts were not difficult to find. When Gonggong found Jiang Chi in the cave, Jiang Chi had just woken up.
His body was still haphazardly covered with herbs, and his external wounds had healed considerably. However, he was still weak from his serious injuries and moved with some difficulty, only able to stand still and look outside. He clearly remembered seeing Jiang Lan before he lost consciousness, so why couldn’t he see him when he woke up?
Gonggong watched him from the shadows for a long time, then snorted coldly and stepped out.
“You’re really lucky.”
A wisp of resentment, stripped away, rose up and, by chance, was taken back by him and the Xuanyuan Sword. Later, it was handed over to Tian Wu. After going through reincarnation and suffering all kinds of pain, it stubbornly survived to this day.
Gonggong looked at him with satisfaction, as if admiring a meticulously crafted work of art: “Although it was more troublesome than I had anticipated, the effect is better this way.”
Jiang Chi didn’t understand his nonsensical words, but instinct made him realize the danger. He stood up unsteadily and gave a low, threatening growl.
Gonggong did not take his demonstration seriously. With a wave of his sleeve, Jiang Chi lost consciousness.
He took the unconscious Jiang Chi to find Jiang Lan.
Jiang Lan didn’t walk fast. He seemed extremely hungry, having eaten everything edible along the way. His eyes were gleaming with a fierce red, and he exuded a menacing aura, somewhat resembling the irrational Taotie from ancient times.
After observing for a moment, Gonggong seized an opportunity to subtly throw the unconscious Jiang Chi in front of Jiang Lan.
With his path blocked, Jiang Lan hesitated as he watched the red beast descend from the sky. Excitement and doubt flashed in his eyes as he saw food, but he did not immediately pounce on it to devour it.
He hesitated, stopping in place, his fierce gaze sweeping over Jiang Chi with a hint of longing, yet hesitantly turned him over, revealing his face.
He still remembered Jiang Chi, who seemed to be his subordinate who would provide him with food.
After devouring Chi You’s head, his external injuries were mostly healed, but Chi You’s resentment aroused his ferocity, causing his instincts to dominate his actions. At this moment, he was like a walking killing machine that only knew how to eat. Reason was temporarily suppressed by desire, but occasionally it would surface because of the hazy memories.
Therefore, he did not rush to devour Jiang Chi without hesitation upon seeing him.
A faint but persistent sense of reason prevented his instincts from taking hold, causing him to stand hesitantly in place, staring at Jiang Chi with his scarlet eyes, but making no move.
Jiang Chi groaned and woke up from his coma.
He struggled to open his eyes and saw Jiang Lan standing only a step away from him.
Jiang Chi’s eyes widened in surprise, and as he called out to Jiang Lan, he instinctively lunged forward, wanting to throw himself into his arms. But he forgot his current state; he had transformed into beast form, with a ferocious appearance and was unable to speak. The sounds that came out of his mouth were low, hoarse roars.
Jiang Lan thought he was going to attack him, so he nimbly dodged and then roared back at him defiantly, his sharp claws leaving deep marks on the ground. He almost couldn’t resist pouncing on him and tearing him to pieces.
Jiang Chi missed his target, and only then did he recover from the surprise of seeing Jiang Lan. He opened his mouth to speak, but no matter what he did, all that came out was a hoarse and muffled roar, which was also somewhat fierce because of his anxiety.
It seemed like a provocation.
Jiang Lan narrowed his eyes slightly, then pounced on Jiang Chi and pinned him to the ground. His red vertical pupils coldly scrutinized him, as if he were considering his options.
Jiang Chi was pinned to the ground, his neck and abdomen gripped by Jiang Lan’s claws, but he did not struggle at all. He just looked at him with confusion and worry, not understanding what was wrong with Jiang Lan.
At this moment, he also realized that not only himself, but Jiang Lan’s condition was also not right.
Jiang Lan was panting heavily, making muffled gurgling sounds in his throat. His eyes scanned him up and down, and he even lowered his head to smell him.
Jiang Chi obediently remained still.
Seeing that he seemed very interested in his claws, he even offered them to him in a fawning manner, curling up his sharp claws.
Unable to speak, he remained silent, trying his best to convey his harmlessness through his eyes.
Jiang Lan stared at the prey that had been offered to him, hesitated for a moment, and then, unable to resist the temptation, bit down on the claw.
Before even tasting it, just by smelling it, he knew that the food in front of him must taste good.
The Taotie can devour everything in the world, so its teeth are naturally incredibly sharp.
Jiang Chi’s paw was bitten, and he groaned in pain, but he didn’t struggle. He just looked at Jiang Lan with eyes full of trust and dependence, and unconsciously let out a soft moan like a young animal.
Jiang Lan stared at him for a moment, then spat out the claw he had just eaten. With an angry roar, he abandoned Jiang Chi and ran quickly into the distance.
Jiang Chi called out to him anxiously, but could only hear the roars of beasts echoing in the forest, while Jiang Lan had already disappeared.
Once again, all their efforts were in vain. Gonggong, who was hiding in the shadows, looked in the direction where Jiang Lan had disappeared. His expression was solemn for a moment before he appeared and grabbed Jiang Chi in his hand. He then said with an uncertain expression, “I didn’t realize that you two had such a deep relationship. Even at this point, Taotie can still resist eating you.”
Jiang Chi couldn’t speak, but connecting his previous unconsciousness with Jiang Lan’s actions just now, he vaguely understood what was wrong with Jiang Lan.
He stared at Gonggong with resentment, guessing that he was in cahoots with the people who had kidnapped him.
Gonggong met his gaze, chuckled, and pulled out the Nine Cauldrons from his sleeve. The normally sized cauldrons grew larger and larger in his palm. Then, with a flick of his wrist, the enormous cauldrons were turned upside down, trapping Jiang Chi inside.
“It’s just a bunch of fierce resentment, yet it has even developed its own ideas.”
Gonggong found it absurd and laughable. They were all evolved from Chi You’s resentment and were destined to devour and kill each other. However, after spending a short time together, they had actually developed feelings for each other.
That was a complete joke!
He went to great lengths to send the resentment into the cycle of reincarnation, subjecting him to suffering, not to make him a self-sacrificing and virtuous person, but to make him hate the human race, to incite his ferocity, and to make him and the Taotie fight and devour each other, not to watch them put on a show of brotherly affection.
“If none of you are going to do it, then I’ll have to do it myself.”
Gonggong glanced at the time, placed his palm on the Nine Cauldrons, and then slammed his snake tail heavily on the ground. Several deep trenches appeared in the ground, and immediately, the same red resentment as that in Red Maple Valley filled the trenches. In an instant, the entire world was filled with red resentment, and even the Nine Cauldrons, which were upside down on the ground, were surrounded by an endless stream of blood miasma.
Trapped in the cauldron, Jiang Chi felt that the feeling of his body gradually filling up had returned.
His wounds began to heal, but before he could rejoice, a humming sound came from the cauldron, followed by a kind yet aged voice in his ear: “A Chi.”
Jiang Chi was momentarily dazed, as if he saw his grandmother calling him.
“Grandmother?”
He turned his head with difficulty, his expression a mixture of sorrow and joy. But before he could say a word to his grandmother, the voice beside him changed again.
Familiar voices rang in his ears, yet seemed to call out directly in his mind. The familiar yet strange “A Chi” carried with it a series of difficult and obscure memories, flooding his brain like a rising tide.
Fragmented scenes flashed by like a revolving lantern: a dutiful adopted son, abused and beaten by his adoptive parents from a young age, forced to help with chores at seven or eight; a feverish man forced to kneel in the freezing snow in the dead of winter, ultimately freezing to death; his body dumped in the snow-covered mountains, devoured by wolves and tigers, leaving no trace of his remains; a kind-hearted young man, loyal to his friends, only to be betrayed, losing his family and suffering endless humiliation, while watching his traitorous friend rise to power over his corpse, dying with resentment and unfulfilled dreams…
Every lifetime, every memory, was one of humiliation and dying with eyes wide open in disgrace.
A surge of resentment welled up in his heart, and the repeated cries of “A Chi” were like a vengeful ghost, drawing him deeper into depravity.
Jiang Chi’s eyes were wide open, as if he were reliving the resentment of those lifetimes where he died with hatred. A boundless resentment gathered in his chest, and countless “Jiang Chi” who had died before whispered in his ears: Kill them to avenge them, kill them, kill, kill…
His eyes were bloodshot, his head was throbbing with pain, and he threw his head back and let out a shrill roar.
He was like a young butterfly trapped in a cocoon, knowing that breaking free was the only way out, yet his resentful cries filled with hatred and tears only hindered his ability to break free.
Jiang Chi’s struggles gradually weakened. He curled up weakly inside the cauldron, his mouth opening and closing, silently calling Jiang Lan’s name, but his eyes gradually became unfocused…
“Jiang Chi”.
Just as he was about to utterly succumb, a clear and soothing voice drowned out his resentful whispers, like a morning bell and evening drum, pulling him back from the brink of depravity.
Jiang Chi moved groggily, then suddenly realized something. He lowered his head and bit himself hard until he tasted blood between his lips and teeth before letting go and gasping for breath.
“Who?”
“That little brat Ding is pretty ruthless to himself.” The voice muttered before saying, “I am Geng Chen, your sister-in-law’s uncle.”
“?”
Jiang Chi knew about Geng Chen, but wasn’t he just a cauldron that only drank milk? How could he be here?
Is it another hallucination?
Jiang Chi cautiously picked at his wound, trying to stay awake with the pain: “How do I know if you’re telling the truth? How can you prove you’re Geng Chen?”
Geng Chen hissed, thinking that this little brat was quite clever. After hesitating for a moment, he said somewhat reluctantly, “Weren’t you there when that little rascal Ying Qiao brought me milk? Does that prove it?”
He still felt ashamed when he talked about it, but he had only recently recovered and had no chance to interact with Jiang Chi. They had only met once or twice, and all they did was drink milk. There was really nothing else he could bring up to prove it.
But he wasn’t very willing to bring it up.
Geng Chen could only comfort himself that this was a sacrifice of the individual for the greater good. There were few great demons as wise and insightful as him who considered the big picture. The little brat hadn’t learned even a fraction of what he was talking about.
Jiang Chi’s wariness lessened somewhat; indeed, no one else knew about sending the demon beast milk to Geng Chen.
But he still wasn’t completely relaxed, and asked warily, “What are you doing here?”
Geng Chen thought to himself, “Isn’t that the huge cauldron that’s pinned to your head just like the one that’s actually my son? I even delivered it to your door myself.”
Besides, this is a long story and a huge waste of time, so we might as well hurry up and do something more important.
So he said directly, “This is a long story, so I won’t go into details now. Do you want to go back with Jiang Lan?”
Jiang Chi hesitated for a moment, then nodded: “I want to.”
“Then do as I say.” Geng Chen’s voice became serious: “That little brat Ying Qiao should be here soon. I will hand you two over to him intact.”
The author has something to say:
Jiang Chi (confused): Isn’t Geng Chen an idiot? Should I listen to him or not?
Geng Chen: ????
