Su Xi thought that with Lu Huan by her side, she would never be able to sleep, after all, she had to pay attention to her image. But to her surprise, perhaps because she felt at ease, she fell asleep in no time.

She even had a good night’s sleep.

The next day, when she woke up, she saw that the curtains were drawn, so the sunlight did not shine on her face, but only a little bit of it gently filtered through the curtains.

A line of text was left on the draft paper on the table.

Lu Huan had written: I am setting off from Chengzhou back to the capital today. I will come to find you after I return to the capital.

He was used to using a calligraphy brush and not to using a ballpoint pen, so his handwriting wasn’t as neat as usual. But even so, each stroke was still distinct and spirited, quite different from the stinky boys at school.

Su Xi stared at the note on the table for a long time, then glanced at the bright sunshine outside the window. Her heart felt warm and cozy, like a soft-boiled egg about to overflow.

She put the notebook in the drawer, stretched, changed into her workout clothes, and went out for a morning run and to buy breakfast.

Love made people happy. When she met the elderly people taking a walk at the entrance of the community, Su Xi greeted them with a smile. However, when she was queuing to buy wontons and turned around to see Huo Jingchuan yawning behind her, she couldn’t help but glare at him, thinking about what happened last night.

Huo Jingchuan was jolted awake by the glare and reached out to snatch the wontons that Su Xi had bought.

Su Xi pulled the wontons far away so he couldn’t reach them.

Huo Jingchuan frowned and asked, “What are you doing? Did you eat firecrackers first thing in the morning?”

Su Xi carried the wontons back and said to him, “Don’t teach Lu Huan those nonsense things. He hasn’t been influenced by the internet society yet, and he’s still very clean.”

“Clean? I think it’s more like blank. I was going to ask you the same thing. Your friend looks like a big star, but he seems like he comes from some remote mountain village.” Huo Jingchuan laughed: “Did his village just get internet access? I asked him if he had a Weibo account, and he actually asked me what Weibo was. I asked him if he knew who Shi Zemei[1] was, and he seriously told me that he only knew who Su Xi was.”

Su Xi was furious with Huo Jingchuan: “Why did you let him know all this?!”

The imperial harems of ancient times were one thing, but the kid had nipped them in the bud. However, there were many beautiful female celebrities in the 21st century. What if the cub suddenly finds one to be pretty?

“Not only that, but also basketball. Nowadays, even nouveau riche boys from remote mountain villages can play basketball, right? Why doesn’t he even know a few star players?” Huo Jingchuan said.

Su Xi couldn’t stand Huo Jingchuan’s mocking tone and couldn’t help but defend her cub: “He’s very good at riding and archery, and he’s very good at leading troops into battle. Do you want to compare yourself to him?”

“Leading troops into battle?” Huo Jingchuan asked, puzzled. “He plays a general in the game?”

Su Xi: …

Su Xi didn’t want to say anything more and turned to leave. However, Huo Jingchuan was very bored and chased after her, saying, “The nearby basketball courts have been occupied by some boys from our class, but we’ve been short of players for the past few days. If you have Brother Lu’s contact information, why don’t you ask him to come and play basketball? He’s over 1.8 meters tall, it’s a real shame he doesn’t play basketball.”

Su Xi didn’t want Lu Huan to play basketball with Huo Jingchuan and the others. Boys always collide when they play basketball, and their knees get bruised and battered. It was heartbreaking to think about. Huo Jingchuan was tough and thick-skinned, but Lu Huan’s skin was so fair; he could bruise easily from just a pinch. He would definitely get hurt playing basketball.

But Su Xi thought again that Lu Huan might not be unwilling; he might be even more eager to integrate into this world than she imagined.

So she thought for a moment and said to Huo Jingchuan, “Okay.”

Huo Jingchuan was very happy. He turned around and walked towards the wonton stall, sending WeChat messages to a few boys in the basketball group to tell them that he had recruited someone.

Boys could easily form friendships; a single basketball game could forge a bond of life and death.

Su Xi suspected that all the talk he had given her was just a ploy to get Lu Huan’s contact information so he could ask him to play basketball…

The only thing to blame was that Lu Huan was too attractive… But Su Xi quickly realized that this handsome young man, who was both literate and martial, was hers alone, and she became happy again.
