Shu Mian talked on the phone with her grandmother the whole way and only hung up when she got back to her dormitory.

She then received a text message notification that 6,000 yuan had been deposited into her bank account.

Her Grandma quickly sent two voice messages: “Su Su, don’t ask why Grandma transferred money to you again. I have more than enough retirement money to spend, who else would I give it to if not my sweetie?”

“Don’t be frugal at school, eat well, and buy lots of pretty dresses. Young girls should always look beautiful.”

Shu Mian felt a lump in her throat.

She was born in Lin’an, a southern city thousands of miles away.

She came to Yanjing to live with her maternal grandmother during the summer vacation after the high school entrance examination.

The reason was simple— her parents divorced years ago and each had their own families, making her presence superfluous.

Shu Mian sent a voice message, “Okay, Grandma. Have fun out there and send me lots of photos!”

After she started school, her grandmother went on a trip around the country with her sisters.

Then Song Yiyi asked curiously, “Mian Mian, why does your grandma call you Su Su?”

“Su Su is my nickname.”

Shu Mian was born in the Year of the Rabbit. Rabbits love to eat grass, so her family gave her the nickname “Su Su” with the grass radical when she was born.

“No wonder your WeChat name is Su Su Tongxue. I thought it was the nickname of some character you like.”

Fang Yao looked down at her phone and said, “I sent the photos of Tan Xuzhe taken at the ceremony to the group chat.”

Shu Mian sat at her desk, silently opened the dormitory group chat, and tapped through each message one by one, saving them.

Song Yiyi wailed, “He’s so handsome, but he won’t even give us a chance to add him on WeChat… That senior girl today was quite pretty and had a hot figure, but he wasn’t interested at all.”

“A few days ago, someone on the forum said they saw him reject a cutesy-talking girl. What kind of girl do you think he likes?”

“I reckon only a stunningly beautiful, alluring woman could handle him?”

A stunningly beautiful and alluring woman?

Shu Mian’s eyelashes were half-closed, and a face flashed through her mind.

She glanced subconsciously at the makeup mirror on the table; she was a completely different type.

Suddenly, Song Yiyi mentioned, “If I were Xuzhe, I would like someone like Mian Mian… She’s a cool and gentle white moonlight type when she doesn’t smile, but when she does smile, her two little dimples are incredibly sweet, and she speaks like a glutinous rice ball. As expected, beauties really come from Jiangnan.”

Shu Mian had very fair skin, a small oval face, and a pair of round almond-shaped eyes under her arched eyebrows. Her amber pupils were bright and clear, as if they contained the Milky Way. She had a delicate nose and full pink lips.

Her naturally brown chestnut hair was fluffy and soft, which, combined with her face, made her look pure and gentle when she didn’t smile, and sweet and adorable with two small dimples when she did.

Fang Yao smiled and agreed, “That’s true, I would also want to have her.”

Shu Mian felt embarrassed and cupped her face in her hands as she looked at them, saying, “If you keep praising me, I’ll blush.”

If only Tan Xuzhe would really like her… what a pity.

Song Yiyi came over and pinched her cheek, “You look even prettier when you blush, oh my, it feels so good, I love it~”

“…”

Shu Mian’s cheeks puffed out from being pinched, her lips slightly pursed, and her voice was somewhat muffled, “Pinching me, huh…you know how to pick on the weak~”

“Ahhh, Mian Mian, you’re so cute!”

After making a fuss for a while, a few people went to bed. They had gotten up early for the ceremony and were all sleepy now.

Shu Mian set a vibrating alarm; she was going out later.

Since the summer vacation started, she had been taking orders to feed and walk cats and dogs at their homes, which allowed her to pet the furry creatures and earn some money at the same time.

She accepted an order on the platform while having lunch, and they had asked her to come to walk their dog at their home at 6 pm.

The other party had placed the order on behalf of a friend. The dog was a golden Border Collie[1], and the detailed address and door lock code were also given to her.

This dog had a very interesting name—Wang Wang[2].

….

After waking up, Shu Mian washed her face, changed into comfortable clothes, picked up her bag and set off. Not far away, she scanned for a shared bicycle.

The residential complex was called Zhenyuan, and it was quite famous in the Yenching University area. After explaining her purpose, the security guard had her register and let her in.

Shu Mian found the building number given by the client, looked up to confirm it was correct, and entered the password.

Presumably thinking its owner had returned, before the door could be fully opened, a furry head eagerly squeezed out from the crack.

Upon seeing that it was a stranger, the dog instantly became somewhat wary.

Shu Mian took out a small bag of goat milk sticks from her bag, opened it, bent down and greeted it, “Hello, Wang Wang.”

The dog should understand its name; so it tilted its head and barked softly, “Woof?”

He sniffed the goat milk stick in her hand, hesitated, but still took it and ate it.

Shu Mian then patted the dog’s head. “I’m here to walk you~”

It understood, barking excitedly and nuzzling her leg with its head, then bringing her the leash.

Shu Mian smiled, her eyes crinkling, “Wang Wang, you’re so good.”

The security camera on the TV cabinet had been running since she entered the house. Pet-owning families usually had these kinds of cameras installed, but she didn’t pay any attention to it and just went out with the dog.

She didn’t go far; she just strolled around the neighborhood for half an hour before heading back.

But as they approached the entrance to the residential area, the dog suddenly barked and ran forward.

Shu Mian thought the dog was happy because they were almost home, so she also quickened her pace.

But it stopped in front of a figure and excitedly tugged at the person’s trouser leg.

“I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry…”

Shu Mian was preoccupied with looking down at the dog and the road. However, as she apologized, she looked up and met a pair of narrow, almond-shaped eyes. Her heart skipped a beat for a moment.

The boy had dark, deep eyes, his eyelids drooping slightly as he looked at her casually.

What a coincidence, Tan Xuzhe lives in this neighborhood?

The dog kept barking and tugging at his trouser leg.

She suddenly remembered a video she’d seen before: a dog got so excited it pulled down its owner’s pants, exposing his butt in the street…

Shu Mian imagined Tan Xuzhe’s pants being pulled down… She quickly tugged at the leash in her hand and warned in a low voice, “Wang Wang, be good.”

Please stop talking nonsense, okay? (ᇂ_ᇂ|||)

The dog remained unmoved, so she forced herself to apologize, “I’m sorry… it must like you, that’s why it’s acting this way.”

“Certainly.”

Tan Xuzhe raised an eyebrow at her, a lazy smile playing on his lips, and said unhurriedly, “After all, it’s my dog.”

“?”

Tan Xuzhe’s dog?

Was Wang Wang Tan Xuzhe’s dog?

What a coincidence! Shu Mian stammered, “So you’re the one who is Wang Wang’s master.”

She never expected that what happened next would be so dramatic.

Not far away at the guardhouse, the guard uncle held a chicken breast jerky in his hand and waved it at the barking dog, making a “slurp slurp, slurp slurp~” sound.

The greedy dog howled and excitedly ran over there.

Shu Mian was experienced in walking dogs, but even she was caught off guard and staggered. Instinctively, she tried to grab something— and she grabbed the collar of Tan Xuzhe’s shirt in front of her.

The top two buttons of his shirt were already undone, and now she had pulled one more open, leaving the collar wide open, clearly showing a small brown mole on his left collarbone.

Shu Mian’s fingertips could even touch his hard, warm, and thriving pectoral muscles.

Oh my god, the dog didn’t pull his pants off, but she ripped his shirt open…

She closed her eyes, contemplating the possibility of burying herself on the spot.

“Wang Wang!”

Tan Xuzhe shouted, grabbed the traction rope, and held her waist firmly with his other hand to prevent her from falling.

Shu Mian bumped into his arms, her nose filled with his scent, and her face and ears instantly turned red.

“I was the one who was touched.” Tan Xuzhe’s gaze fell on her flushed cheeks, a playful glint in his eyes, and his voice rose slightly at the end, “Why are you blushing?”
