The moment Gu Wuji stepped inside, the scene before him changed.

It was the same room, but the atmosphere felt as if someone had lived there before. The house wasn’t luxurious, but it was at least relatively clean, and freshly washed fruit sat on the table.

“What is this…”

Taking a step forward, Gu Wuji felt a strange sensation in his body; he had somehow reverted to his childhood appearance.

“So it really is some kind of illusion?”

Gu Wuji slowly walked forward but suddenly stopped after a few steps. Several long-forgotten fragments of memory abruptly resurfaced.

It was a scene of him sitting in front of the television, excitedly talking to someone in a room at dusk.

In that instant, the entire room plunged into darkness, with only a sliver of light filtering in from a distant window. The dim light made it impossible to see clearly; he bumped into various objects as he took a few steps forward, scattering things across the floor.

“You shouldn’t have come back.”

A woman’s hoarse voice seemed to be whispering something, carrying a hint of resentment.

“Mother,” Gu Wuji called out to the voice, but it vanished instantly, and the door behind him slammed shut.

Gu Wuji suddenly realized that Cheng Jia hadn’t come in with him. “Oh no! I can’t leave him here alone!”

This place was clearly no longer the safe home Gu Wuji knew, but had become a haunted space like a dungeon. He himself was one thing, but Cheng Jia was in too much danger.

“I have to get out of here quickly.”

A note lay on the table in front of him. He picked it up and glanced at it. It was written in crooked, childlike handwriting.

‘If you want to leave here, remember what happened before, remember what you did here before, that’s how you’ll find clues to leave.’

“What did I do before?”

Gu Wuji frowned. It seemed this house required him to rely on his past memories to find clues to leave. But…

….

At this moment, the entire building had transformed into something like another dimension.

The man on the first floor sneered, “If it were before, it wouldn’t matter. But now I’ve obtained that game system, even become an intermediate player, and by chance acquired a powerful item. Even if Gu Wuji has that kind of power within him, he can’t possibly leave alive.”

He was brimming with confidence, after all, if Gu Wuji were trapped in his own home, he would definitely try to solve the puzzles inside to escape. But this was a mistake from the start, nothing more than a trap to keep him in this place.

To truly leave, the clues he needed to find were completely opposite to the hints inside the house. If he didn’t realize this, he would only perish here. In addition, the ghosts already in the house would occasionally come out to scare people, making it a hellish difficulty level.

Originally, the conditions for using this item were quite demanding, but fortunately, there were already many ghosts in this building. Now, under the power of the item, they had all become terrifying beings. Even if Gu Wuji successfully escaped from the house, he certainly won’t be able to deal with the ghosts outside!

As for Cheng Jia, whom Gu Wuji brought, the man didn’t even take him seriously; he was probably just cannon fodder.

“Gu Wuji, even if you’re incredibly smart, can you find any clues to escape?”

The man said, his face darkening as he recalled the painful memories of the past.

“If it weren’t for you, that plan wouldn’t have failed, and they wouldn’t have died so tragically. This time, I’ll use your life to appease their spirits in heaven!”

“Whose spirits in heaven?”

“My brother’s, of course—”

The man’s words trailed off as he stared in disbelief at Gu Wuji behind him, as if he’d seen a ghost. “You…you…how did you get here?!”

Gu Wuji, standing behind him, showed no signs of distress or fright; instead, he appeared perfectly fine and energetic. It hadn’t even been a few minutes since the man had used the prop…

The man retreated in fear, only to be suddenly pinned down. Austin had appeared behind him, binding him with the prop rope.

“I just came out of the room normally.”

“Impossible!” the man retorted in disbelief. “According to my setup, it should have taken you at least half a day to find clues. How could you be so fast!”

“Of course, I used brute force.” Gu Wuji said. A high-level player like him having to deal with such a low-level dungeon in the real world? With his strength, he didn’t even need to use his brain. He didn’t even need to release his underlings like Austin. He easily opened the door.

But Gu Wuji was very dissatisfied with the place he used to live in, and his gaze towards the man became much colder.

“Then how did you get down so quickly? How could those ghosts let you go?” the man gritted his teeth.

Then he stared in astonishment as Gu Wuji raised his hand, and several ghosts appeared behind him. These ghosts all seemed to have a high regard for Gu Wuji and showed no intention of attacking him.

“You, you…” the man was dumbfounded.

“After all, they are all acquaintances of mine. Why would they attack me?” Of course, the actual situation was that Gu Wuji’s ghost-controlling skills far surpassed the man’s item level, so he easily restored the other ghosts.

The man was sweating profusely. He finally realized that the child who had once terrified him had now become an even more terrifying being.

But he still forced a brave voice, saying, “Where’s your friend? I don’t see him. Did you abandon him? You really are still that monster! You can’t possibly treat anyone with sincerity!”

“What monster? How could I abandon my friend?” Gu Wuji said softly.

Cheng Jia, trembling and pale, still barely recovered from his previous fear, walked up from behind, giving Gu Wuji a forced smile, “Master Gu, Auntie is really quite kind. Just a little too kind.”

….

Rewinding to the previous scene. Just as Cheng Jia was terrified, Gu Wuji suddenly burst through the door.

At this moment, Cheng Jia was incredibly grateful, but at the same time, he was conflicted. Did he really want to put Master Gu in such a situation of mother and son killing each other because of his actions?

Unexpectedly, Gu Wuji simply sat calmly beside him, then looked at the female ghost with a complex expression. “Mother, I’m back.”

The female ghost paused, then placed the food on the table, looking at the two of them with gentle eyes.

Cheng Jia didn’t know how he could sense the gentleness in her eyes through that dark face.

“Don’t worry, Mother just wants to treat you well,” Gu Wuji said, taking the plate of food. “It’s just ordinary food, nothing strange. Of course, it’s not from our world, so it’s best not to eat it.”

Cheng Jia: “!!” This dish really is just ordinary food?! No one would want to eat it!!

But then Cheng Jia suddenly remembered Master Gu’s culinary skills, and the dish he had eaten at Gu Wuji’s house. He suddenly understood the food in front of him. So, even culinary disasters needed to be cultivated… Was it really okay for Master Gu to have eaten this kind of food since childhood?!

Then Cheng Jia saw Gu Wuji and the female ghost staring at each other, their eyes filled with various emotions. They stared at each other for a moment, as if they had already exchanged many things.

“Mother, I have something to attend to, so I’ll leave first.”

Gu Wuji took a deep breath, pulled Cheng Jia beside him, and left with a hint of reluctance.

The female ghost simply stood inside the door, quietly watching their retreating figures.

Cheng Jia finally calmed down and couldn’t help but say, “Auntie is so warm and welcoming, but I wonder where Uncle is.”

His feelings were extremely complicated; he wanted to see Master Gu’s parents, but everything had been so terrifying.

“Yes,” Gu Wuji sighed softly, “If it weren’t for me, they would definitely be better off.”

“Master Gu, what’s wrong? They must be so happy to have such an outstanding son like you!” Cheng Jia hurriedly interjected, knowing his mother would love to have a son like Gu Wuji.

“I’ve remembered some things,” Gu Wuji shook his head.

Just now, in that room, the clues required him to recall the past. Gu Wuji was worried about the time constraints and decided to force his way through, but after leaving the room, he still remembered quite a few things.

His past was completely different from what he thought it was.

….

Seeing Cheng Jia unharmed, the man immediately realized that all his efforts had completely failed. No matter what he did, he couldn’t pose any threat to Gu Wuji. He deflated like a punctured balloon, his eyes filled with nothing but fear as he looked at Gu Wuji.

“Why did you do this to me?” Gu Wuji slowly stepped forward, looking down at the other man, whose face was unmistakably unfamiliar. He couldn’t help but ask, “I have no grudge against you, why do you hate me so much?”

“Have you already forgotten what happened more than ten years ago!” The man was enraged by his words, yet he seemed trembling with fear. “I still haven’t forgotten how those people were brutally murdered.”

“What did you say?” Gu Wuji frowned. As he listened to the man’s words, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head, a strong sense of crisis welling up within him. This sense of crisis didn’t originate from anywhere else, but rather from his own body.

It was as if something was preventing him from remembering something; if the man continued, something terrible would surely happen.

Gu Wuji couldn’t help but cover his forehead, cold sweat pouring down his face. The sharp pain in his head intensified, making him almost unable to stand.

Cheng Jia, standing nearby, immediately rushed forward to support him anxiously. “Master Gu, are you alright? Did this man do something to you?”

“I’m fine, just a headache.” Gu Wuji took a deep breath and said with some worry, “Tell him to stop talking! Otherwise…”

Seeing Gu Wuji like this, the man became even more agitated, as if he had finally found Gu Wuji’s weakness. So he sneered and spoke loudly, “You really can’t face it! I saw everything when that happened more than ten years ago! That terrifying monster that suddenly emerged from your body—”

He stopped abruptly before he could finish speaking, trembling with an indescribable fear.

Cheng Jia and Austin, standing nearby, stared wide-eyed in astonishment at the scene before them.

Gu Wuji was already kneeling on the ground, almost fainting, when behind him, a large amount of black mist suddenly spread out, almost filling the entire space.

What terrified the others was that the power contained in this mist was extremely terrifying, even absorbing the surrounding energy. Everyone felt their bodies suddenly weaken, unable to even struggle.

Cheng Jia, who had been supporting Gu Wuji, suddenly collapsed to his knees due to exhaustion.

A figure suddenly emerged from the black mist behind Gu Wuji and gently pulled the nearly fallen Gu Wuji into his arms.
