Liu Guo’an genuinely believed this; he only wanted Fu Ke to leave. Although he disliked Fu Ke, who was a zombie, he hadn’t forgotten how much Fu Ke had helped the base.

Fu Ke was a zombie, but Liu Guo’an had never actually seen her eat people. Sometimes he wondered if Fu Ke was using the D City base as her food supply.

But then he thought, if that were the case, why would she need to rescue people everywhere, and why would she never touch the food supply, even providing it with good food and drink?

Rationally, Liu Guo’an was wary of Fu Ke, but psychologically, he didn’t want to believe that Fu Ke was a zombie, that she herself claimed to be of a different kind.

Lan Sheng and his group were all ordinary people, leading a large group of others. The previously rescued superhumans found these ordinary people troublesome and left separately.

To escort this group to the base, Lan Sheng and his group had to slow down. This meant that Fu Ke and the others had already reached the D City base, barely arriving at the base closest to A City.

However, upon arriving at the base, someone shouted, “Help! Help!”

Hearing the loud cries, the guards at the Radiant Base’s entrance immediately surrounded Lan Sheng and his group. “What are you yelling about? Who yelled that?”

Lan Sheng’s face darkened. They had clearly agreed on the way there that after delivering them to the base, Lan Sheng and Song Jing would leave.

But upon arriving at the base, someone yelled for help, and Lan Sheng immediately knew something was wrong.

“They…they’re with the zombies! I saw them with the zombies!” said the person who had shouted. Then, one after another, people in the crowd confirmed that the person was right.

This time, not only Lan Sheng, but Song Fei, Song Jing, and their group all changed color.

Song Jing drew her gun and pointed it at the people they had painstakingly escorted: “What nonsense are you talking about?”

“Stop! What do you think this place is, where you can just attack anyone you want?” The person in charge at the base’s entrance shouted, his face darkening, upon seeing Song Jing draw her gun.

“Exactly! They’re clearly in cahoots with the zombies, and they won’t let anyone say it. Brother, you absolutely can’t let these people go! I’m telling you, they’re using us for experiments! These zombies are probably connected to them!”

“Yeah, yeah, they even dissect people and inject them with viruses. Maybe these heartless people are the root of these zombies!”

Lin Lizhong felt like his head was about to explode with anger. He grabbed one of the people next to him and asked menacingly, “What did you say? Damn it, we’re the ones who saved you!”

“What are you doing? Let go!” The person in charge of the base’s gate saw Lin Lizhong’s menacing appearance and looked at the group of emaciated people who looked unwell.

Subconsciously, he believed their words and looked at Lan Sheng and his group with suspicion.

“Arrest them all.” The person in charge of the gate waved his hand, and immediately a group of people rushed forward, trying to grab Lan Sheng and his group, who were clearly different from the emaciated group.

Song Jing and Song Fei drew their knives and guns, glaring hostilely at the group.

Lan Sheng stopped them, saying, “What? Is your Radiant Base just going to arrest people without even asking questions? They say we’re connected to zombies, so we’re connected to zombies? If I say you’re a zombie, does that mean you’ve become a zombie?”

Lan Sheng had been incredibly frustrated these past few days.

Previously, Song Jing and Song Fei had listened to Lan Zhi, but Lan Sheng hadn’t cared because Lan Zhi was his brother, and he was happy for Lan Zhi.

But ever since Lan Zhi became a zombie, although it was later proven he was right— Lan Zhi had indeed retained his human sanity— Song Jing and the others had become increasingly distant from him because of it.

All along the way, he had wanted to skip seeing them off and go directly to Lan Zhi, but he swallowed his anger. Even if he had to leave, he had to see them all off with them.

The gatekeeper sneered, “We’ll investigate who’s right and who’s wrong.”

As soon as he finished speaking, vines suddenly appeared from all directions. Song Jing instinctively holstered her gun and grabbed a long knife to chop at the vines, but there were simply too many vines.

Even with their rich combat experience, they were quickly bound tightly by the vines.

This was the difference between ordinary people and superhumans.

Lan Sheng’s face was ashen; Lan Zhi was still waiting for him!

“Take them away!”

Lan Sheng and the others were captured, and the D City base gradually began to stir.

Jian Yilun and the others, who had previously been on good terms with Fu Ke, hadn’t come to see Fu Ke since her return, but they obviously couldn’t have been unaware of her return.

Xie Changyi, who had been observing Fu Ke for some time, had some doubts. Was Fu Ke really a zombie? Could zombies eat like humans?

He only knew that zombies ate people, but whether zombies could eat human food, Xie Changyi didn’t know. However, he had observed Fu Ke for several days without seeing him harm anyone.

Xie Changyi had a plan in mind.

Early the next morning, when Liu Guo’an woke up, he found something was wrong. He was tightly bound to a chair with ropes.

He struggled but couldn’t break free at all.

Looking up, he saw Xie Changyi and his group, and immediately shouted angrily, “Xie Changyi! What are you doing?”

Liu Guo’an was tied to the podium, and below him stood men, women, and children of all ages from the entire base. The square was densely packed, far more people than at the beginning of the apocalypse.

Xie Changyi smiled, holding a megaphone, making sure everyone in the base could hear him clearly.

“Everyone, I think you’re all curious as to why I’ve gathered you all here, and even tied up the base’s leader, Squad Leader Liu.” As Xie Changyi spoke, he turned his back to Liu Guo’an, facing the entire base.

“I believe many of you have heard of the name Fu Ke, right?” Xie Changyi’s lips curled into a smile. “Some have seen her, some have only heard of her. But I believe none of you know that Fu Ke isn’t human; she’s a zombie.”

“Impossible!” As soon as Xie Changyi finished speaking, a soprano voice almost shattered as she shouted.

Xie Changyi looked over; it was Feng Han.

“Why is it impossible?” Feng Han’s medical team was renowned, and they handled all the daily checkups for those entering and leaving. Xie Changyi naturally recognized this woman.

“Our base owes a great deal to Fu Ke. She’s very mysterious, and I can sense her power. You say she’s a zombie? If she is, why is she helping us? How can a zombie be like a human? Has anyone ever seen a zombie that’s the same as a human?” Feng Han had heard that Fu Ke had returned, but she had been extremely busy and hadn’t had time to visit her. She had finally had some free time today, but early this morning, everyone in the base was gathered together.

She was still somewhat bewildered when she heard Xie Changyi’s slanderous words about Fu Ke. Instantly, a surge of anger rose within her, and without thinking, she shouted.

Qiu Yingying, now assigned to the superpowered team, looked at Xie Changyi, their former team leader who had been dismissed.

Qiu Yingying already disliked Xie Changyi, and her feelings towards him worsened at this moment: “Zombie? Xie Changyi, even if you haven’t met Fu Ke, you should have heard of her. Even if you want to seize Liu’s power, you shouldn’t use Fu Ke as an example. Do you know how many people here are alive because of Fu Ke?”

“You say she’s a zombie, where’s your proof? If she really were a zombie, we would all be dead countless times over!”

Chen Meijia, Qiu Yingying, and Feng Han all stood up to speak for Fu Ke, and those who had remained silent before began to stir.

Lin Xiaoya, who was leading the children’s training, also stepped forward: “Sister Fu can’t be a zombie. If it weren’t for Sister Fu saving my mother and me, we would have died outside long ago. I don’t believe she’s a zombie.”

Lin Xiaoya and her mother, Chen Ju, were the mother and daughter Fu Ke brought with her when she first went to the supermarket to loot. As soon as Lin Xiaoya spoke, Chen Ju echoed her sentiments.

Even after all this time, Chen Ju still hadn’t forgotten those terrifying days in the supermarket, and the fear, dread, and unease she felt then.

Although life at the base wasn’t exactly easy, far worse than before the apocalypse, compared to those days in the supermarket, Chen Ju felt like she was in paradise.

And all of this was thanks to Fu Ke.

Most of the children in Lin Xiaoya’s group were rescued by Fu Ke. Seeing Lin Xiaoya and her mother step forward, their little faces also showed resolute expressions.

Perhaps because of the apocalyptic environment, these children, who should have been innocent and naive, were unexpectedly precocious and sensible.

Liu Guo’an, tied to the stage, smiled bitterly. Many in the base firmly believed Xie Changyi was talking nonsense. But he knew Xie Changyi was telling the truth: Fu Ke was a zombie, a different kind of zombie.

Xie Changyi watched with a half-smile as the noise below grew, with people whispering and discussing amongst themselves.

“Whether Fu Ke is a zombie or not, I think Squad Leader Liu has the right to say, right?” Xie Changyi said with a smile, “Our Squad Leader Liu has known Fu Ke’s identity for a long time, yet he helped Fu Ke conceal it.”

For a moment, the entire square fell silent. Everyone held their breath, staring at the bound Liu Guo’an.

“Squad Leader Liu, say a few words. If you say Fu Ke isn’t a zombie, then I have nothing to say.” After Xie Changyi finished speaking, he put the megaphone to Liu Guo’an’s mouth.

Liu Guo’an’s face was grim. He wanted to say no, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it, because Fu Ke was a zombie, and he wanted Fu Ke to leave, but he hadn’t expected Xie Changyi to find out so quickly.

How did he know?

Suddenly, Liu Guo’an thought of the researchers from Gaomi.

His heart clenched. Even if he didn’t want Fu Ke to stay here, he knew clearly that those researchers were brought by Fu Ke. He didn’t know how they were brought there, but it was very likely they had been rescued.

If they had been rescued, weren’t these people utterly beasts? To turn against their own savior? Even if Fu Ke was a zombie, what they did was worse than beasts.

At least beasts knew gratitude, but these people… were researchers!

Liu Guo’an remained silent, but his silence made everyone below realize what was happening. If Fu Ke wasn’t a zombie, Liu Guo’an would have firmly stated that he wasn’t.

But he didn’t. And his expression was extremely conflicted. In fact, his silence already told everyone his answer.

Especially those standing at the front who could clearly see Liu Guo’an’s expression.

“Hehe… it seems that Squad Leader Liu has already given us the answer. Now, who else wants to say that Fu Ke isn’t a zombie?” Xie Changyi said with a smile.

Lu Xun leaped up from below and easily snatched the megaphone from Xie Changyi’s hand.

Xie Changyi glanced at Lu Xun, shrugged, unconcerned that the megaphone had been taken, and instead made a gesture of invitation.

Lu Xun didn’t even look at Xie Changyi.

He held a megaphone and addressed the entire base, looking at the densely packed crowd: “Let’s leave aside those who came after Fu Ke left. Let’s talk about those who received Fu Ke’s help before.”

“Fu Ke is a zombie, so what?” Lu Xun sneered, “Does being a zombie erase the help she gave you before?”

“People can be good or bad. Who says zombies are necessarily the enemy of humans? Of course, we won’t talk about those who eat people, but did Fu Ke eat people? Did she harm you? Many of you would have died long ago without Fu Ke.”

“Why do you have to dwell on Fu Ke’s identity?”

“My life was saved by Fu Ke. Whether she’s human or a zombie, it doesn’t change the fact that she saved me. I only know that she is Fu Ke, the Fu Ke who saved me.”

If Fu Ke had become a mindless zombie, Lu Xun certainly wouldn’t have said this. But Fu Ke was still Fu Ke, she was no different from before.

Xie Changyi suddenly appeared with another megaphone in his hand. He didn’t try to snatch the one from Lu Xun but directly turned on the megaphone and spoke.

“Think about it, why did the world suddenly end? Why are monsters everywhere? And why is Fu Ke, who is clearly a zombie, different from the general zombies?” Xie Changyi’s lips curled into a strange smile. “Perhaps Fu Ke was a zombie from the beginning, and the source of the virus infection could very well be her!”

The group, who had been struggling internally because of Lu Xun’s words, exploded at Xie Changyi’s words.

If the source of the virus infection was Fu Ke, then she was an unforgivable sinner! What benefactor? If there hadn’t been an apocalypse, they wouldn’t have had to go through all this! Moreover, Fu Ke was indeed different from other zombies, which couldn’t be explained. The only explanation was very likely what Xie Changyi said.

The commotion in the base was so great that even without using her mental power to investigate, Fu Ke sensed something unusual.

She released her mental power to investigate but unexpectedly found Liu Guo’an tied up.
