“However, this patient’s identity is rather special, and I can’t tell you too much right now.” Vice President Qiu pointed to the documents on the coffee table. “If you’re willing to take on the job, there’s a confidential document here that you’ll have to sign.”

Everything happened so suddenly that Lu Dangui slowly came to his senses, staring blankly at the words “Confidentiality Agreement” written in black and white on the document for a long time.

In their line of work, the most important thing was to adhere to the principle of confidentiality and never disclose patients’ personal information to others. For a patient to present him with such a confidentiality agreement to sign was tantamount to directly questioning his professional ethics.

This was a blatant distrust of his character.

After a while, Lu Dangui hesitated and said to the old hospital director in front of him, “Director, I will never disclose patients’ privacy under any circumstances.”

This was a veiled message to Dean Qiu that he didn’t need to, and there was no need for, him to sign any “Confidentiality Agreement.”

Seeing the hesitation in the young man’s eyes, Dean Qiu sighed and said, “This Confidentiality Agreement is not quite the same as ordinary confidentiality principles.”

“The patient’s background is too complicated, and the information involved needs to be kept highly confidential. If you don’t want to be involved in a major commercial lawsuit or get into a lot of trouble, you’d better sign it.”

Then, Dean Qiu changed the subject: “Of course, if you are unwilling to take this risk, I will pass on your message.”

If Lu Dangui was unwilling, things would be easier. After all, his relationship with Chairman Xing was there, so he could give Old Xing an explanation without having to go along with Young Master Xing’s whims.

If Dr. Lu is unwilling, you can’t force him to come out and practice medicine, can you?

Dean Qiu was happily making his own plans.

“Dean, I’ve signed it.”

Dean Qiu looked down and found that the document had been neatly folded and placed in front of him, with the three characters “Lu Dangui” signed in a neat and tidy manner.

“Huh?”

Lu Dangui stood up from the coffee table and bowed deeply to Dean Qiu: “Thank you, and thank you to that gentleman I don’t know, for giving me this opportunity.”

Hearing Dean Qiu’s words, a strange emotion welled up in his chest, causing his hand holding the pen to tremble slightly.

He wanted to treat patients, and he was willing to take any risks as long as he could treat patients.

Something was stirring within him. There was excitement and anticipation, but also trepidation and nervousness.

Most importantly, Dr. Lu was finally going to have his first patient.

….

Before his afternoon appointment, Lu Dangui went to the specialist’s office with Dean Qiu.

He didn’t have a dedicated workstation in the outpatient department, but he was assigned a small office in the inpatient workstation. However, it only had a table and two chairs, which was rather shabby compared to the specialist’s office.

The specialist consultation room was located on the top floor of the hospital; it was a very spacious and bright white room. The room was equipped with a full set of tables, chairs, and sofas, as well as a soundproof wall and green plants covering the entire ceiling. Solid wood cabinets along the walls were filled with certificates and trophies— all awards and accolades received by the hospital’s specialists.

Seeing the undisguised anticipation on the young man’s face as he looked around, Dean Qiu felt a surge of affection for the younger generation and smiled at Lu Dangui, saying, “I heard from Old Wang that you were a first-class outstanding graduate of S University’s medical school?”

Lu Dangui said somewhat embarrassedly, “It’s been so long, I’d completely forgotten…”

“Your Director Wang is also one of my students.” Dean Qiu patted Lu Dangui on the shoulder. “Opportunities like this are something others would kill for. If you work hard, you might even be more successful than Old Wang in the future. Don’t you think that makes sense?”

Lu Dangui’s face flushed slightly, and she blurted out instinctively, “Thank you, Dean. I will do my best.”

After giving Lu Dangui a few more instructions, Dean Qiu left the consultation room, leaving Lu Dangui alone in the room to wait for the patient’s arrival.

Lu Dangui was about to see his first patient on his own. So even though he looked calm on the surface, but he was so nervous that he barely ate lunch.

Most people who came to the psychiatric ward didn’t want to be discovered by those around them, but he still had to sign a confidentiality agreement. They even went so far as to bring up the former director of the psychiatric ward for this purpose. Such people must have a considerable social status.

But why would such a big shot come specifically to see him for medical treatment?

Lu Dangui didn’t quite understand.

The clock on the wall ticked forward, and the time jumped to five o’clock in the afternoon, the time for the agreed meeting with the patient.

Lu Dangui heard a heavy thud coming from the end of the corridor. Although the sound was faint, it was still quite abrupt in the quiet passageway.

A tall man in a black suit appeared at the door of the clinic.

Straightening the collar of his white coat, Lu Dangui suppressed his nervousness and stood up from his office chair: “Sir—”

Upon seeing the other person enter the consultation room, Lu Dangui’s voice abruptly stopped. His gaze slowly descended, settling on the wheelchair that the man in black had pushed in.

The familiar striped hospital gowns, the oppressive atmosphere he carried with him wherever he went…

Wasn’t this the wheelchair-bound man he argued with by the lake that night?

The man in the wheelchair wasn’t wearing a mask or sunglasses today; half his face was hidden behind a scarf covering his chest, yet he looked strangely familiar.

This person couldn’t be…

Lu Dangui: !!!

Seeing the young doctor standing blankly in front of the desk, Xing Cheng suddenly felt a little disheartened.

Shock, admiration, excitement, enthusiasm…

He had seen that expression far too many times.

Whether they were fans, passersby, or those shady characters trying to climb the social ladder by marrying into the Xing family, everyone’s first reaction upon seeing him was nothing more than these.

He couldn’t feel it, nor could he understand it. Having seen so much of it, he just found it meaningless.

The young doctor in front of him, the one who had inexplicably lashed out at him all night, was clearly no different from anyone else.

He took a lot of effort in vain.

Xing Cheng thought to himself.

He clapped his hands, intending to call Xing Shi in, planning to leave.

To Xing Cheng’s surprise, after a brief moment of distraction, he saw something flash across the young doctor’s eyes.

For a fleeting second, Xing Cheng felt as if Lu Dangui was staring at him menacingly, as if he wanted to devour him alive.

Was he… angry?

The Best Actor Xing sat frozen in his wheelchair, feeling utterly lost for the first time in his life.

When he came to his senses, he found that the inexplicable anger in the young doctor’s eyes had vanished without a trace, as if it had all been his imagination.

All that met his eyes was a pair of slightly curved, smiling eyes. The young psychiatrist wore a professional smile and spoke with friendliness and gentleness: “Hello, are you the patient referred by Director Qiu?”

A white rabbit, its fur about to stand on end, tried its best to suppress its temper, then smiled at the jackal and offered him its carrot.

“Hello, Dr. Lu.”

After a while, Xing Cheng also laughed.
