Ji Yue’s efficiency was surprisingly high. The matter was discussed in the morning, and a package was delivered to the house in the afternoon. It was a box with a note saying Tang Tang should sign for it, and the sender was Ji Yue.
Tang Tang had no choice but to sign for the package. When she opened the box, she saw that it was full of bottles and jars that she had never seen before. Although each bottle had writing on it, the writing was not in Chinese. Anyway, she couldn’t understand a single word, so she guessed that it was something made by foreigners.
Tang Tang had no choice but to search the box for any notes or anything. She finally found a piece of paper with a list of what was in each bottle and how to use each product.
After reading it, Tang Tang had to admit that Ji Xiaozhuo had chosen the right person, because the things Ji Yue had sent were practically tailor-made for her needs. Most of the bottles and jars in the box were skincare products— skin-softening, whitening, moisturizing— you name it, they had it. Tang Tang was amazed; she hadn’t known there could be so many products just for the face. Besides facial products, there were also hair care products to make hair smooth and thick.
At the bottom of the paper, Ji Yue had written that she had personally used these products and they were very effective, so Tang Tang could use them without worry.
Tang Tang was truly grateful for Ji Yue’s thoughtfulness, but she couldn’t accept these things without a clear conscience. Just by looking at them, she knew they weren’t cheap; they were probably foreign products, perhaps extremely expensive. How could she possibly accept so much money?
Even if you want to become prettier through these things, you should buy them yourself.
Tang Tang didn’t touch these things, but instead got Ji Yue’s phone number from Ji Xiaozhuo, figuring she’d call Ji Yue when she wasn’t busy that evening.
Ji Yue answered quickly, knowing who it was before she even spoke, as if she’d already guessed. “Tang Tang?”
Tang Tang hummed in response. “Ji Yue, it’s me. Did I bother you?”
“No, no, I’m at home right now. Just tell me what’s up.”
Ji Yue, who was soaking her feet, said this while playfully touching Gu Chang’an’s face with her wet feet, which earned her a glare from Gu Chang’an, who grabbed her feet and dried them with a cloth.
Hearing that Ji Yue was free, Tang Tang explained her purpose: “Ji Yue, I called to talk about these things you sent me. These things are too valuable; I really can’t accept them.”
Ji Yue casually scoffed, “It’s okay, these things aren’t worth much. They’re not as valuable as you say. Just take them and use them. Don’t be so formal.”
Tang Tang couldn’t really be so formal, because neither she nor the original owner of this body had a deep relationship with Ji Yue. “No, no, I can’t accept something for nothing. Ji Yue, thank you so much for your kindness, but I really can’t accept these things. Please take them back.”
Seeing this, Ji Yue knew that Tang Tang really didn’t want to accept those things for nothing, so she rolled her eyes and said, “I’ve already sent them out, there’s no reason to take them back. Besides, sending them back and forth is troublesome, and they might even get damaged during transport. How about this, if you really feel bad, just cook me something nice to eat, consider it an exchange, okay? I really miss your cooking skills.”
“This…” Tang Tang felt that a little food couldn’t possibly be worth the price of so many skincare products, and that she was actually getting a good deal. However, being too polite wouldn’t be good for their friendship, so she could only nod and say, “Okay, I’ll make you something to eat, and I’ll bring it to you with Xiao Zhuo after I’m done.”
Ji Yue readily agreed, “Alright, then it’s settled. Use those things without worry.”
Seeing that Ji Yue had hung up the phone, Gu Chang’an asked curiously, “When did you and Tang Tang become so close? What did you send her?”
Ji Yue chuckled, tucked her feet into Gu Chang’an’s arms, and said coquettishly, “Honey, give me a massage, my feet hurt so much~”
Gu Chang’an pointed at her with his fingers, helplessly and affectionately, and began to skilfully massage her feet, while scolding her, “I told you not to wear such high heels to work, but you insist on wearing them, and every night when you come home you tell me your feet hurt. I wish they were dead.”
“Oh dear, how could a straight man like you understand a woman’s pursuit of beauty?”
Ji Yue pouted, then changed the subject. “Xiao Zhuo called me today, asking if I knew how to make his mother prettier. I was amused by this little darling, but since he finally asked me for help, of course I had to oblige. So I sent Tang Tang all the skincare products I use.”
Gu Chang’an nodded, continuing his massage.
“Hey, honey, I have a question for you. Have you ever seen what Tang Tang looked like before? Was she always like this… like this?” Ji Yue hesitated to say the word “ugly.” Gu Chang’an recalled his first impression of Tang Tang. It was when Ji Yan had introduced her to them when they got their marriage certificate. However, he didn’t quite remember what Tang Tang looked like then, so he shook his head and said, “I don’t remember very clearly, but she wasn’t that pretty, however she wasn’t as ugly as she is now either.”
If she were very pretty or very ugly, he wouldn’t forget her. It was just that Tang Tang was very ordinary back then, which was why he couldn’t remember her.
Ji Yue pondered, “Then Tang Tang should be able to become prettier with some skincare, right? After all, Xiao Zhuo is so handsome, so his Mommy shouldn’t be too ugly either.”
Gu Chang’an didn’t answer, just stood up, picked up Ji Yue, and carried her into the room. “Alright, stop worrying about whether others are pretty or not. Instead, think about whether your husband is pretty or not.”
Ji Yue laughed heartily.
Meanwhile, Tang Tang breathed a sigh of relief, placing the bottles and jars Ji Yue had given her on the dressing table in the room. Then she thought about how to thank Ji Yue. She would certainly make food, but a little food wasn’t enough to express her gratitude. She also wanted to give Ji Yue something, otherwise, she would feel guilty accepting such valuable gifts for nothing.
But after thinking it over, she couldn’t think of anything worthwhile. She had no money, no jewellery, and no way of earning money. Buying something nice was impossible.
What should she do?
After much deliberation, Tang Tang could only think of making something for Ji Yue herself. However, besides cooking, her only other skill was needlework. Perhaps she should embroider a handkerchief for Ji Yue?
But Tang Tang immediately shook her head, rejecting the idea. No, no, she couldn’t let anyone see her embroidery skills, or she’d give herself away.
She’d only recently learned from a TV program about cultural heritage that almost no one in this era knew how to embroider; those skilled in embroidery were extremely rare. The original owner of this body was definitely not capable of it. So, if she suddenly produced an embroidered piece, it would be hard to hide it.
People might believe she could cook, but no one would believe she could embroider. If embroidery was out of the question, then other needlework skills probably wouldn’t work either, right? After all, she didn’t even know if the original owner of this body knew needlework.
Thinking about it, Tang Tang sighed, feeling a little down. In their community, needlework was one of the important standards for judging a woman’s virtue and talent; every girl had to learn it from a young age. But here, it had practically been lost— it was truly unexpected.
She herself had started learning needlework at the age of five, and after so many years of hard work, this skill was one of her only two strengths. If she couldn’t use it here, she really wouldn’t have any strengths to offer.
Tang Tang suddenly realized she knew too little about the original owner of this body. She really needed to know what the original owner could and couldn’t do, otherwise, she might be exposed later.
With that thought, Tang Tang suddenly stood up and began searching every corner of the room. She needed to find something the original owner had left behind to learn more information.
Unfortunately, she searched the entire room but found nothing. She didn’t know if it was simply not there or if it was hidden too well.
Seeing Tang Tang bustling about, Ji Xiaozhuo asked curiously, “Mommy, what are you doing? What are you looking for?”
Tang Tang didn’t know what she was looking for either, so she said, “Mommy is looking for my old things, but I can’t remember where I put them.”
Ji Xiaozhuo blinked, glanced at Tang Tang for a while, then suddenly turned and ran outside. A moment later, he returned and handed Tang Tang a file folder. “Mommy, here you go.”
Tang Tang was puzzled. “What’s this?” Ji Xiaozhuo dumped everything inside onto the bed and said, “These are the things you threw away, Mommy. Grandma Li picked them all up, saying these things shouldn’t be thrown away.”
Hearing that it was the original owner’s that Tang Tang immediately took it to look at. The first thing that caught her attention was a red booklet with “People’s Republic of China Marriage Certificate” written on the cover. Inside, there was a photo of her and Ji Yan.
It was actually her marriage certificate with her baby’s father! Tang Tang knew that this little red booklet was equivalent to a marriage certificate in their area, representing that two people had become husband and wife. It was a very important thing, and she hadn’t expected the original owner to have thrown it away. No wonder she had never seen it in the room before.
“Oh my god, if Aunt Li hadn’t found it, it would be gone now!”
Tang Tang was incredibly grateful to Aunt Li. Thank goodness she was there; she would definitely keep it safe and never lose it.
After checking the marriage certificate, Tang Tang continued to look through the other things. Besides a ring, there were several certificates she didn’t understand and planned to look them up later.
Finally, a large blue booklet also caught her attention because the cover read: “Bachelor’s Degree Certificate from University A.”
Tang Tang knew University A was a very prestigious university, probably as good as the Imperial Academy. Everyone wanted to go there, and those who got in had to have exceptionally high scores.
She hadn’t expected the original owner of this body to have attended university, and such a good one at that. She had thought the original owner was useless; it turned out she wasn’t.
Tang Tang quickly opened the cover and looked inside. There was a piece of paper with Tang Tang’s name on it, along with something about an art academy majoring in fashion design.
Tang Tang studied it for a long time but still couldn’t understand it, so she asked Ji Xiaozhuo, “Baby, what’s an art academy, and what’s a fashion design major?”
Ji Xiaozhuo blinked, dumbfounded, because he didn’t know either.
But Ji Xiaozhuo had a good habit of immediately asking questions when he didn’t understand, so he called again, this time asking Zhuo Ji for help. Zhuo Ji thought Ji Xiaozhuo was just being childishly curious and explained it to him very seriously.
Tang Tang, who was listening nearby, naturally heard Zhuo Ji’s explanation. After hearing it, her eyes lit up, and she wished she could roll around on the bed like Ji Xiaozhuo.
The original owner’s university studies were related to making clothes! That meant the original owner knew how to make clothes, that was, needlework. So she didn’t have to pretend she didn’t know needlework anymore; she could still keep her only two strengths!
God was really looking out for her. Tang Tang was very grateful to God at this moment, but even more grateful to the original owner for learning this!
Since that was the case, she could make a pair of shoes for Ji Yue. Although they weren’t very valuable, they were the best thing she could afford right now.
Having learned such useful information, Tang Tang felt completely relaxed and bubbly with joy. Only then did she have the leisure to research the skincare products Ji Yue had given her. She wondered if these things would work and make her as beautiful as Ji Yue. Thinking of Ji Yue’s fair, supple skin and flowing long hair, Tang Tang’s heart stirred with excitement, and she couldn’t wait to try them.
However, some wounds on her face hadn’t healed and required ointment, so she couldn’t use these products. Therefore, Tang Tang could only try hair care products first. Taking care of her hair was essential; a woman’s hair was just as important as her face, and she couldn’t bear to have her hair like straw.
That evening, Tang Tang used the products Ji Yue had given her to give her hair a thorough treatment— washing, applying creams, and styling— which took almost two hours. Ji Xiaozhuo was almost exasperated watching, thinking women were truly terrifying.
Tang Tang, however, didn’t find it troublesome at all. After happily completing the entire process, she wondered if it was just her imagination, but she felt her hair seemed a little smoother and more beautiful.
However, whether it was a hallucination or not, Tang Tang instantly felt a glimmer of hope for becoming beautiful.
That night, Tang Tang had a dream in which she became a stunningly beautiful woman, slender and graceful, with flowing long hair, fair skin, and an extraordinary aura. She wore a white dress like a fairy.
Ji Xiaozhuo was so captivated by her that he forgot to eat his snacks and ran towards her with his short legs, hugging her leg and praising her, “Mommy, you’re so beautiful!” Tang Tang smiled shyly, bent down, and kissed the little guy, “Thank you, baby.”
Just then, Ji Yan, dressed in military uniform, walked in from outside. He saw Tang Tang in her white dress and was instantly stunned. He stared at her intently, a hint of amazement flashing in his eyes. After a long while, as if confirming that this was his wife, he slowly walked towards her, reached out and touched her face, and murmured, “Tang Tang, you’re so beautiful.”
Tang Tang blushed and dared not look at him, her face as red as a peach blossom.
Ji Yan was mesmerized by Tang Tang’s delicate beauty and couldn’t help but slowly move closer to her, kissing her on the lips.
Tang Tang instantly blushed so much that her toes curled up, but she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Mommy, Mommy! Wake up! The sun’s already high in the sky!”
Tang Tang was woken up by a shaking and shouting. As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Ji Xiaozhuo’s chubby little face in front of her, the little guy looking at her with a furrowed brow.
Tang Tang was still a little groggy and murmured, “What’s wrong, baby?”
Ji Xiaozhuo breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Tang Tang was awake and threw himself into Tang Tang’s arms. “Mommy, you worried me to death! Why were you laughing in your sleep? It was so scary! Mommy, did you have a nightmare? But don’t you cry when you have a nightmare?”
Tang Tang froze, immediately recalling the dream she had just had, her face turning red instantly. She felt too embarrassed to face anyone and stammered, “No… Mommy didn’t have a nightmare.”
Ji Xiaozhuo touched Tang Tang’s forehead. “Mommy, you… Why is your face so red? Do you have a fever?”
Tang Tang waved her hand, trying to hide her embarrassment. “No, no, no, Mommy doesn’t have a fever. Mommy’s just a little hot. I’ll be fine in a bit.”
Ji Xiaozhuo finally relaxed, gave Tang Tang a light kiss, and then jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. “Mommy, I’m going to brush my teeth. Get up quickly!”
Only after Ji Xiaozhuo had completely disappeared did Tang Tang let out a silent wail, covering her face with her hands. Her heart was filled with indescribable shame. She had actually dreamed that Ji Yan had treated her like that, and… and… Ahhh! How could she be so shameless!
People say that what you think about during the day, you dream about at night. Could it be that she actually thought… Pshaw, no, it must be that her brain just went crazy for a moment. Tang Tang immediately stopped herself from thinking about it and quickly got out of bed to wash up and prepare breakfast, feeding herself and Ji Xiaozhuo until they were full.
