He slowly leaned close to Lu Dangui’s ear, his warm breath brushing against the earlobe of the person beneath him: “Continue from where you left off, what happened to your sister?”

Lu Dangui weakly said, “…You, you let me get up first.”

Xing Cheng was taken aback when he heard the young doctor’s pleading tone.

Lu Dangui had been waiting for this moment.

Taking advantage of Xing Cheng’s inattention, he bent his elbow and slammed it hard into the chest of the person in front of him.

With his restrained hands freed, Lu Dangui grabbed the right-side door handle, quickly pushed open the car door, and scrambled out of the car.

He knew that Xing Cheng’s leg was still not healed and he definitely couldn’t outrun him in a race.

Standing two meters away from the black sedan, Lu Dangui raised his left hand, gave Xing Cheng the middle finger inside the car, and then ran off in the opposite direction.

As he passed the large sycamore tree by the roadside, he vaguely saw what appeared to be a person lying in the flowerbed behind the tree.

Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a tall, unconscious man.

No wonder Xing Cheng’s bodyguard hadn’t shown up earlier; he had been knocked unconscious and dragged to a sparsely populated flowerbed.

He abruptly stopped in his tracks, and Lu Dangui’s professional habit kicked in again.

He was hesitating whether to go forward and check on the tall man when he suddenly noticed someone leaning on a cane, slowly walking towards him into the night.

“Dr. Lu.” The man stood under the streetlight, raising his hand to fasten the buttons on his cuffs. “Not leaving?”

The black cane cast a long, blurry shadow on the sidewalk. The owner of the cane spoke calmly, yet his tone carried a relaxed chill.

Dr. Xiao Lu, who was dedicated to saving lives, bit his swollen lips and suddenly shivered.

He immediately turned around and decisively chose to run away.

….

Upon receiving the call from the eldest young master, Uncle Xun immediately led a group of people from the Bayview Group headquarters to pick up the young master who had encountered an emergency.

Seeing Xiao Shi lying unconscious in the flowerbed, Xun Bo’s expression was very unpleasant.

Xiao Shi was the most skilled of the family’s trained thugs, and his alertness was far beyond that of ordinary people. For someone to knock him unconscious without him noticing, the person who attacked was clearly no pushover.

Upon returning to the Xing family’s main residence, Xun Bo immediately notified his elite subordinates to investigate suspicious individuals around the hospital.

“No need to investigate.” The young master leaned back lazily on the sofa, his handsome face expressionless. “They’re from the Lin family.”

“Young Master is referring to… Miss Lin?”

Xun Bo was clearly somewhat surprised: “But Miss Lin is currently abroad, with Chairman Xing and President Lin, how could she—”

Seeing the young master tapping the back of the sofa with his fingertips as if he was getting impatient, Uncle Xun quickly stopped talking.

He didn’t really understand. If it really was Miss Lin’s people, then why risk being discovered by Chairman Xing to knock out the young master’s bodyguard on the roadside just to take a few photos of the young master? What was their motive?

Furthermore, once Chairman Xing and President Lin returned to China with Miss Lin next week, the engagement between the eldest son and Miss Lin would be made public. It’s already a done deal, so why would Miss Lin choose this time to upset the eldest son?

As if knowing what Xun Bo was thinking, Xing Cheng lowered his head, took a sip of tea, and smiled nonchalantly.

Every step was part of his plan.

Lin Xiangni sent someone tonight because she had fallen into his trap.

At Xing Yu’s banquet, he publicly admitted that the young doctor was his person, and for the first time brought an outsider back to his residence. He also invited a private doctor to treat the young doctor.

Either the private doctor surnamed Song was Lin Xiangni’s informant, telling her that the young doctor had a relationship with her, or one of Xing Yu’s clients was a member of the Lin family, who then told her what happened that day.

Once Xing Jingshan returned to China, the first thing he would definitely do was arrange his marriage to Lin Xiangni. As soon as she heard that he had left the main residence for the hospital, Lin Xiangni would surely send someone to check on him, wanting to know if he had gone to see his lover.

He guessed right.

He had barely left the hospital when Lin Xiangni’s men arrived. They must have been staking out the area, waiting for him to appear.

And then there were the media outlets that came downstairs today after hearing the news; some of them might even be affiliated with the Lin family.

He had originally planned to distract Xing Shi and lure Lin Xiangni into making her move. He just hadn’t expected the woman to be so swift and decisive, daring to have her men knock Xing Shi unconscious.

As for why he specifically stayed in the car to wait for the young doctor, there was indeed one reason: he wanted to propose a sugar daddy/sugar baby deal to her.

But the main reason was to use the junior doctor as bait.

He deliberately made Lin Xiangni see what she was afraid to see.

Whether they told Xing Jingshan right away or secretly did something behind his back, it didn’t matter.

His only goal was to break the engagement with the Lin family, and he only used the young doctor because he was easy to work with.

Remembering those soft, pale lips and those innocent, reddened rabbit eyes, Xing Cheng placed the teacup back on its base and closed his eyes.

Seeing the usually calm and composed young master slightly furrow his brow, Uncle Xun couldn’t help but ask, “Young Master, should we inform Chairman Xing about this? Should I send someone to communicate with the media beforehand?”

Miss Lin had really gone too far this time. Not only did she disregard the young master’s safety while he was out, but she also attacked his bodyguard without authorization, and took so many photos of him that violated his privacy.

This might not be a big deal to others, but the young master was a public figure after all, and such photos only brought him harm and no benefit.

“No.”

He heard the eldest young master say that.

“Since someone went to such lengths to get me trending on social media,” Xing Cheng said, leaning back on the sofa, reverting to his usual lazy demeanor, “why shouldn’t I do as she wishes?”

The Lin family’s plan this time was quite clever.

If he wanted to make a comeback in the future, what he feared most was the pressure from the media. Lin Xiangni understood that as long as they used the photos to pressure him, they might be able to hold the wedding as soon as possible. Or she could hand the photos over to the media, using exposure as leverage to force him to comply.

However, what the Lin family didn’t know was that all of this was within his plan. The photos that Lin Xiangni had someone take would become his trump card.

To achieve his ultimate goal, everyone should be a stepping stone for him.

Whether it was the self-righteous Xing Yu, the Lin family who were too clever for their own good, or anyone else, they are all just pawns in his game.

Aside from the young doctor, he was the only variable in his plan.

While using this person, he developed a strange desire that he had never had before.

If the young doctor hadn’t resisted the whole time in the car, or even just given in to him a little bit, he would have completely lost control.

He still remembered the angry look the junior doctor gave him when he asked the psychiatrist that night if other doctors also slept with patients.

If the junior doctor were to be placed in the public eye and no longer be able to focus solely on treating and saving lives, he would probably hate him to death.

He hated him enough now.

Thinking of this, Xing Cheng called out to Uncle Xun, who was about to go out on business: “Uncle Xun.”

“Young Master, is there anything else you need?”

“Find a few trustworthy people to help me investigate someone,” Xing Cheng said. “A girl, surnamed Lu.”

“I need to get all the information about her within a week.”

….

After lunch break, Lu Dangui was carrying a takeout box past the nurses’ station when he noticed several nurses chatting animatedly together.

“…Could it be someone else? The photo is so dark, what if we’ve mistaken someone else for someone else?”

“This is Xing Cheng himself. Look at the details on his face, and that mole. He just looks a little thinner than before.”

Hearing the nurses mention the madman surnamed Xing, Lu Dangui slowed his pace.

Pretending nothing was wrong, Lu Dangui walked towards the nurses’ station and greeted the nurses, “What are you looking at? Why are you so excited?”

“Dr. Xiao Lu!”

The nurses looked up and greeted Lu Dangui, then continued watching the video. “We’re watching the latest gossip about Xing Cheng; it’s all over the internet today. But Dr. Lu doesn’t follow celebrities, so he probably doesn’t know, right?”

While the nurses were engrossed in their discussion and completely ignored him, Lu Dangui, feeling guilty, quickly grabbed the takeout box and sneaked back to the clinic.

After confirming that the clinic door was closed, he opened his phone and checked the trending topics while unpacking the takeout box.

The top two trending topics on the popularity chart, both marked with the word “hot,” were surprisingly related to Xing Cheng.

This marked Xing Cheng’s return to the trending topics list after more than half a year since his retirement from the entertainment industry.

The top trending topic was “Xing Cheng’s relationship exposed,” and the second was “Xing Cheng has fallen in love.”

As Lu Dangui opened the takeout box and randomly clicked on a trending topic, he almost dropped the soup spoon in her hand.

The content posted on Weibo by the marketing account was a short, secretly filmed video of about ten seconds. The video was shot at night using a zoom lens pointed at a car window, so the image was somewhat blurry.

In the scene, Xing Cheng, who had not been seen in public for a long time, was facing the half-open car window. On the car seat next to him sat a person whose face was hidden in the shadows. Xing Cheng tilted his head and held the person tightly in his arms, kissing the person in his arms passionately.

The last five seconds of this video caused a huge uproar online. It was precisely these five seconds that successfully propelled the topic “Xing Cheng fell in love” to the second spot on the trending searches.

At the end of the video, Xing Cheng slightly raised his head and looked towards the camera.

He had discovered the presence of paparazzi.

Xing Cheng showed no panic when he saw paparazzi secretly taking pictures.

He smiled, gazing tenderly at the person in his arms, and then kissed them again.
