Huo Beiyu was injured by wolf claws; a layer of flesh had been scraped off, leaving a bloody and gaping open hole, the edges of the wound even turning black. Therefore, the first step was to immediately clean out the germs to prevent infection.

Yun Zheng didn’t have any alcohol, and the water in the nearby lake wasn’t clean enough, so she had no choice but to use water from her spatial spring. Before the man could look up, she quickly washed his wound clean, then deftly crushed herbs and applied them around it.

While Yun Zheng focused on treating him, the man no longer concealed his gaze, scrutinizing the girl before him like a hunter examining his prey.

At this moment, she had lowered her eyes slightly, her long, butterfly-like eyelashes casting beautiful shadows in her eye sockets. Her black hair, falling over her shoulders, was bathed in a clear, ethereal halo of moonlight filtering through the branches, highlighting her clean, white face.

Huo Beiyu’s throat tightened.

Every eyebrow, every smile, every frown of hers was perfectly suited to the man’s aesthetic sensibilities.

“I’m going to scrape off some infected flesh now, don’t move.”

Yun Zheng suddenly looked up, her gaze unexpectedly meeting the man’s dark eyes. Huo Beiyu looked away as if electrocuted, nodding seriously at her.

Yun Zheng’s heart skipped a beat. She wondered why the look in his eyes seemed so familiar— was it just her imagination?

She pursed her lips, raising her hand to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, so it wouldn’t interfere with the treatment. This way, the man could admire her features more clearly.

Huo Beiyu thought she was truly beautiful, like an ancient jade preserved for a thousand years, born to be cherished in his palm.

She was his.

“All done.”

Yun Zheng finished the treatment, wrapping the gauze around his wound. Just performing the initial treatment had broken her sweat, yet the man remained unfazed. She couldn’t help but secretly marvel. She had just scraped flesh from his wound without anaesthesia, and she had been incredibly nervous. Was this man made of iron? Or did he have no sense of pain?

“You’re sweating.” Huo Beiyu pursed his lips, looking at the beads of sweat on Yun Zheng’s forehead, feeling a little guilty. Should he have not deliberately injured himself, causing her to tire herself out?

Yun Zheng casually wiped her hands. “I’m fine. Remember not to get them wet, wait for the wounds to scab over, okay?”

Huo Beiyu gently hummed in agreement, then stood up. He inadvertently noticed the few scratches on her hands as she wiped them, and quickly reached out to take her hand.

This man, she wondered what he did for a living, his hands were covered in calluses. He gently scraped her wrist, a tingling sensation. Yun Zheng immediately pulled away. “What are you doing?”

Huo Beiyu’s eyes fell on her palm, his heart tightening with concern. “How did you get hurt?”

“Oh, it’s just a small scratch.” Yun Zheng wasn’t used to his overly anxious and concerned behavior, as if she were seriously injured.

But he was the one who was seriously injured!

A fierce glint appeared in Huo Beiyu’s eyes. “From now on, you’re not allowed to go up the back mountain alone.”

Yun Zheng found him utterly inexplicable. “What business is it of yours where I go?”

Huo Beiyu’s eyes darkened, his face even more unpleasant than before, as gloomy as the sky before a storm, making Yun Zheng feel a little uneasy.

She simply turned to leave, but after a few steps, she realized he had followed her again.

“Why are you following me?” Yun Zheng asked irritably.

“I have nowhere to go.” Huo Beiyu’s eyes were timid, his tone even more pitiful. “You saved me, I want to repay you, to be with you.”

Yun Zheng almost choked on her saliva, laughing and crying at the same time.

“Didn’t I just say that I saved you once, and you saved me once, so we’re even?”

“But now I owe you one.”

Huo Beiyu pointed to the area where she had bandaged him, his words implying, “I’m sticking with you!”

Yun Zheng regretted it a little. If she had known this guy was such a clingy person, why did she even bother with him?

She thus said sternly, “If you feel indebted to me, then all the ginseng is mine. You can’t come with me. You know men and women shouldn’t be so close, right? Besides, I don’t have a place for you to stay at my house. If you need money or food, just ask, and I can give it to you anytime. That’s all.”
