“…”

Upon hearing his sister’s voice, Lu Dangui’s mind went blank for a brief second.

Xing Cheng acted before him.

Most people, upon hearing a sound behind them, would instinctively look towards the source of the sound. Xing Cheng, however, was different.

Upon noticing the presence of strangers, his first reaction was to tense up. He immediately released Lu Dangui’s hand, pulled down the brim of his hat, and completely covered his face.

“I’m leaving now.”

He whispered in Lu Dangui’s ear.

Ignoring the gaze cast at him by the girl in the wheelchair, Xing Cheng picked up his cane from the bench and walked toward the elevator.

Perhaps because his leg hadn’t fully healed, he walked with a slight stagger.

Lu Dangui felt a chill run down his spine.

Xing Cheng wasn’t wearing sunglasses today, and the beauty mark under his eye was clearly visible. Although he covered his eyes with the brim of his hat, a closer look would still reveal some clues.

What’s more, the person who came today was none other than Lu Wenfei, a die-hard fan who had been infatuated with Xing Cheng since his debut and even commissioned a life-size body pillow of him.

Seeing that his younger sister’s gaze remained fixed on Xing Cheng, Lu Dangui coughed twice, trying to divert Lu Wenfei’s attention:

“Wenfei, why are you at the hospital today? Don’t you have classes at school?”

Turning her gaze away from the masked man, Lu Wenfei looked up at her brother standing in front of her, her face full of inscrutable words: “Brother, have you forgotten what day it is today?”

Glancing at the numbers on the elevator, Lu Dangui turned his sister’s wheelchair around and started rambling: “…Is it that art festival you mentioned last time? There’s been so much going on at the hospital lately, I’ve completely forgotten.”

No!

Lu Wenfei looked at her brother with a helpless expression: “Brother, today is your birthday! Did you really forget?”

……Birthday?

Lu Dangui was stunned for a moment.

He saw Xing Cheng turn his head and glance at him from below the brim of his hat.

November 14th, November 15th… Lu Dangui silently counted on his fingers in his heart.

Today was November 16th, it really was his birthday!

Since starting university, he and Lu Wenfei had moved out of their relatives’ house, no longer living as dependents. From then on, he rarely celebrated his birthday. Coupled with a lot of messy and troublesome things happening lately, and a heavy workload at the hospital, he had long since put the birthday celebration out of his mind.

“A Yue and I had already discussed it and ordered a cake for you. A Yue just went downstairs to pick it up and it will be here soon.”

Lu Wenfei cheerfully told Lu Dangui about her plan. She and her best friend had been secretly planning for several days to prepare a surprise for her brother.

Lu Wenfei didn’t expect that her brother’s expression would change as soon as she finished speaking.

Instead of the excitement of receiving a pleasant surprise, it was more like being frightened by something.

Lu Wenfei raised her hand and waved it in front of her brother’s dazed eyes:

“……elder brother?”

Lu Dangui’s gaze had long since passed over his sister and was now fixed on the elevator door not far away.

The elevator had stopped on the ninth floor, only two floors away from the psychiatric ward.

He hurriedly walked up behind Xing Cheng, who was waiting for the elevator, and grabbed Xing Cheng’s arm again.

Xing Cheng was pulled back again, and asked in confusion: “…Dr. Lu?”

Lu Dangui gritted his teeth and squeezed out four words with difficulty: “Do me a favor.”

If Xing Cheng hadn’t had difficulty walking, he wouldn’t have repeatedly made physical contact with this person.

“Wenfei, tell A Yue to wait for me. I’ll treat the patient’s wound and be right back.”

After explaining a few words to Lu Wenfei, he pulled him towards his clinic.

Lu Wenfei’s close friend Chen Queyue, known online as “A Yue Mama,” was the head of Xing Cheng’s fan support group and a well-known fan artist in the industry. As Xing Cheng’s number one fan leader with hundreds of thousands of followers, Chen Queyue’s influence in the fan circle was so great that she was once personally invited by Baiwen Entertainment for tea.

Because of their shared love of celebrities, Lu Wenfei and Chen Queyue had known each other from a long time ago. Later, they discovered they lived in the same city, met up with each other many times, and gradually became best friends.

Xing Cheng was all bundled up today, so Wenfei didn’t recognize him, which was a stroke of luck.

But Chen Queyue was different.

Even if Thanos snapped Xing Cheng to dust, Chen Queyue could still pick out her Xing Cheng brother from the pile of rubble.

Let the number one fan and the real person meet unexpectedly at the elevator entrance…

Are you kidding me?

The young doctor pulled him back to his office and led him to sit on the examination bed in the small cubicle. Xing Cheng’s usually calm eyes finally showed a slight fluctuation.

He leaned against the wall, maintaining a lazy yet puzzled posture: “Dr. Lu, aren’t you going to explain to me what’s going on?”

Across the corridor, the elevator had just arrived at the eleventh floor, and the faint sound of two girls chattering and laughing could be heard outside the door.

“Things are a bit complicated, I’ll explain later.” Pulling the light blue curtain of the cubicle closed, Lu Dangui hurriedly said, “Don’t make a sound, I’ll let you out as soon as they leave.”

There was a knock on the door: “Brother Lu, I brought the cake! Are you done yet?”

He gestured for the person on the bed to shush, and Lu Dangui hurriedly peeked out from behind the curtain: “Coming!”

The person had already reached the door of the clinic when Lu Dangui suddenly remembered something.

He hadn’t even treated Xing Cheng’s burns, but the man remained silent, just letting him pull him into the small dark room.

“…You two wait for me for a few more minutes!”

After hesitating for two seconds, Lu Dangui called out towards the door.

After rummaging through the glass cabinet for a long time, Lu Danggui finally found a medical first aid kit in the bottom drawer.

The bag contained gauze, alcohol, and disinfectant. Although it couldn’t completely treat the wound, it was enough to temporarily address it and prevent it from worsening and becoming infected.

Carrying the first-aid kit and lifting the curtain, Lu Dangui didn’t have time to say much. He directly grabbed Xing Cheng’s hand, which was hanging down in front of his legs, and began to treat his wounds.

“I’m going to apply disinfectant now,” Lu Dangui said, tearing open a medical cotton swab and squatting down in front of Xing Cheng. “If it hurts, bear with it and don’t make a sound.”

Because his breathing was not very even, the hand he was holding Xing Cheng’s was trembling slightly.

Xing Cheng remained silent.

The two noisy girls were standing outside the door, making quite a racket. But the irritability that often came with the noise was offset by something else.

He lowered his eyes and stared at the young doctor’s slender nape exposed outside his white coat.

The marks left by the collar had disappeared, but a faint pink mark remained on his neck.

The young doctor applied cold disinfectant to the blistered palm with swift, gentle movements. The expected pain didn’t come; only the rough feel of the gauze against the palm.

The young doctor’s breathing was more rapid than usual, with the tip of his nose less than half a foot from his palm. His breath brushed against the injured skin, leaving a trace of warmth.

After bandaging his wound, the person in front of him stood up and began tidying up the first-aid kit on the bed.

Gradually concealing the emotions in his eyes, Xing Cheng returned to his usual lazy demeanor.

“Dr. Lu,” he said, a slight smile playing on his lips as he watched the figure turn and leave in a hurry, “Happy birthday.”

Upon hearing his words, the young doctor paused for a few seconds while holding the curtain, then picked up the first-aid kit and went out.

“Thanks.”

Through the curtain, he heard the young doctor say.

….

After waiting for several minutes at the door of the examination room, the door finally opened.

Lu Wenfei was holding a large cake in her arms, while Chen Queyue pushed her best friend’s wheelchair. The two of them entered Lu Dangui’s clinic together.

This was Lu Wenfei’s first visit to the hospital since her brother changed clinics. She craned her neck to look around the room, finding everything new and exciting.

After placing the cake on Lu Danggui’s desk, Chen Queyue moved a small chair from the nurses’ station, and the three of them sat around the table.

Glancing at the small cubicle with the curtain drawn, Lu Wenfei asked her brother curiously, “Was that person your patient? Is he still resting inside?”

“Yes, he needs to stay and be observed for a while. Let’s do our own thing and not disturb him.”

Lu Dangui moved his office chair to the side, blocking his sister’s view.

Lu Wenfei nodded obediently, not taking it to heart. The two girls each grabbed a ribbon and began unpacking the cake box.

The birthday cake was ordered by the two of them a week in advance. There was a custom-made DIY clay figure on the cake. Although the shape was a bit ugly and the white coat was crooked, you could still tell that it was Lu Dangui himself.

The gift Chen Queyue gave to Lu Dangui was a painting she had done herself, depicting the Lu siblings. In the painting, Lu Wenfei was fully healthy, and the two siblings stood amidst blooming flowers, holding fruit baskets and beaming with joy.

As a recognized master artist in the art world, she had drawn hundreds of fan art pieces related to Xing Cheng, honing her skills in portrait drawing. The Lu siblings thus seemed to leap off the page in her works, appearing remarkably lifelike.

“A Yue, you’re amazing!”

Lu Wenfei’s specialty was praising her best friend excessively, saying things like, “How could you draw a boy so handsomely!”

Praised like that, Chen Queyue immediately perked up. She pulled out her artwork from her phone and proudly showed it to Lu Wenfei: “By the way, I recently drew two more pictures of Cheng Cheng, which I’m planning to use as materials for the fan club’s disbandment commemorative album. Let me show you—”

Upon hearing Chen Queyue mention Xing Cheng, Lu Wenfei gasped and quickly pinched her best friend’s arm.

After being pinched by Lu Wenfei, Chen Queyue quickly realized what was happening.

Never mention Cheng Cheng in front of Brother Lu; Lu Wenfei had specifically warned her before.

She scratched the back of her head and chuckled twice, then put her phone aside and immediately changed the subject: “How about we sing a birthday song? After we sing the birthday song, Brother Lu can make a wish.”

The two girls exchanged glances. One put candles on the cake, while the other got up to turn off the lights in the clinic, trying to quickly change the subject.

Before lighting the candles, Lu Wenfei glanced at her brother with some trepidation.

A Yue accidentally mentioned Cheng Cheng earlier, and she was worried it might spoil the birthday atmosphere.

Lu Dangui was completely unaware of the little schemes his two younger sisters were plotting.
