Yun Zheng had no idea that a cup of fragrant tea could bring Qin Shuanglu to a state of self-ecstasy.

Her current worry was that the family’s meager food supply, barely enough to ensure everyone’s needs, wouldn’t last until the end of the month. Although she had all sorts of food stored in her spatial storage, she couldn’t keep secretly storing it. Once or twice might be acceptable, but doing it repeatedly would arouse suspicion and the risk was too great.

Therefore, making money before the food ran out was paramount, and she had already considered what kind of business to start.

However, these days coincided with the busy farming season, and the government-purchased grain was due soon. Everyone in the family was worried about the harvest, so Yun Zheng couldn’t divide their time.

Yun Zheng knew that the family had a total of 5 mu of land, 2 mu of which were paddy fields, and the remaining 3 mu were wasteland taken from the Cheng family.

It was called wasteland because the soil quality was poor; wheat and rice couldn’t be grown, only coarse grains like corn, sorghum, and sweet potatoes.

The government-purchased grain required refined grains, at the very least millet, so the whole family relied on the harvest from the two mu of paddy fields, using the wasteland for daily sustenance.

Calculating the time, there was only a week left until the harvest. These few days were crucial, and the Qin family dared not be careless, having to go to the fields every day to weed and guard them.

Yun Zheng felt sorry for her family and couldn’t bear to stay home and enjoy a leisurely life. She insisted on helping out, but Qin Baishi’s kind eyes crinkled with a smile.

“It’s hot outside, and you’ll get sunburned, which will worry your grandmother.”

Except for Qin Shuanglu, everyone else advised Yun Zheng not to go. Since there were many people in the Qin family, they didn’t need Yun Zheng for the field work; her presence would only cause them worry. Yun Zheng tried a gentler approach, using her charm and cuteness. Her wet eyes swept over her family members, and who could resist? They had no choice but to agree to take her along.

This was Yun Zheng’s first time experiencing the busy farming season. Standing on the edge of the field, looking down, she saw golden rapeseed flowers interspersed among the green wheat fields. Rows of farmers bent over their work, creating beautiful spring scenes.

Arriving at their own fields, they could see the grain had grown, but was still in the growth stage. They only needed to wait seven days for the harvest, and then they wouldn’t go hungry for the rest of the year.

“Look! What’s going on? Why is there so little water in our fields?”

Qin Gang suddenly cried out in alarm, pointing at the paddy field.

Qin Baishi followed and saw that the water level in the irrigation ditches was indeed very low, and her expression changed drastically.

Everyone knew that rural fields relied mainly on the village reservoir, which was piped to each field to sustain the growth of crops.

Every acre of land needed a guaranteed water supply; without water, the fields would dry up, and the grain would be lost.

“Qin family, it hasn’t rained lately, and the reservoir isn’t enough. Your plot is on the outskirts, so you got the least; this is all you have,”

Zhao Yi shouted to the Qin family from the edge of the field, holding a loudspeaker.

“Hahaha, this is truly retribution!”

Cheng Linshi, their neighbor, gloated.

“So what if you take back the wasteland? Without water, you still won’t harvest any grain. Just wait to be locked up in jail for not paying your grain tax.”

Normally, Qin Baishi would have rushed over and torn Cheng Linshi’s mouth apart, but now she was too anxious to pay attention to that old hag.

“The reservoir is dry, what are we going to do?” Qin Heshi frowned.

“The harvest is almost here, this is too unlucky. If we don’t have a good harvest, all our work for the first half of the year will be for nothing.”

Qin Baishi staggered, and Yun Zheng held her tightly. She glanced at the surrounding land, her brow furrowing. The current situation meant that if it didn’t rain within seven days, their fields would yield nothing!

Qin Shuanglu slumped to the ground.

“It’s over, it’s over, our family is going to starve to death this year.”
