It was nearing dusk.
The sun had dimmed its glare. While the clouds lingered, painting a vibrant, oil painting across the sky.
When Bai Yue entered the rooftop, Shang Yufei was waiting near the entrance, half-squatting on the ground.
Seeing him enter, Shang Yufei looked up. His pair of emerald green eyes stared intently at him.
Bai Yue closed the door and sat down beside him.
“Twelve days and seventeen hours,”
Shang Yufei said after he sat down. “So long, and you only just remembered to contact me?”
Hearing this, Bai Yue looked at him and smiled, “If you had contacted me, I would have come to see you immediately.”
Shang Yufei touched the back of his neck and clicked his tongue lightly, seemingly regretting his earlier outburst.
“Because it’s not the right time yet,” Bai Yue said.
If he didn’t achieve something, the other party certainly wouldn’t accept him staying.
But now it was different.
“Although I haven’t officially reported yet, I’m now a member of the disciplinary team.”
Hearing the words “disciplinary team,” Shang Yufei felt a surge of disgust.
Everything had been going smoothly. He had sabotaged the selection process, which would have caused Bai Yue to fail the assessment. Then he could conveniently persuade Bai Yue to go home.
But he hadn’t expected that final turn of events.
However, seeing Bai Yue like that, even he himself wavered. Shang Yufei had been pondering this for the past few days. Had he misunderstood something?
He thought he had completely accepted the secondary differentiation. But now, it seemed that wasn’t the case.
He didn’t have a more concrete and clear understanding.
Bai Yue was changing. But he himself was stagnating.
“Can you accept that?” Bai Yue asked. “I want to stay here.”
Shang Yufei looked up at Bai Yue. The other’s expression was serious. Although his appearance hadn’t changed much, his temperament was completely different.
This seemed to be the first time in many days that he had truly looked at Bai Yue now.
The other’s figure overlapped with that night once again.
He looked away. “Whether I agree or not, you won’t change your mind, right?”
Bai Yue thought for a moment and said, “But this is important to me. At least it lets me know that everything I’ve done so far hasn’t been in vain.”
“I should have said why I want to stay at the military academy, right?”
“Because I want to be with you openly and honestly.”
The voice was soft, yet incredibly firm. It travelled with the wind into Shang Yufei’s ears.
Shang Yufei’s gaze fell on the ground, his fist clenched tightly. “I feel the same way.”
He just didn’t want to see Bai Yue get hurt.
Originally, he thought his thoughts wouldn’t change. But what he saw that night on Lia Star far exceeded his expectations.
Shang Yufei: “I was too naïve about the secondary differentiation.”
He was confident that no matter what Bai Yue’s appearance became, no matter what others thought, he could maintain his feelings.
But he had never thought that Bai Yue would actively seek to become an alpha.
How should he face this?
“Hearing what you said, are you regretting it?”
Suddenly, he heard these words.
Shang Yufei was startled and looked up, meeting Bai Yue’s light gray eyes.
“What you said when I was going through my second differentiation was a great salvation for me.”
Bai Yue’s light gray hair reflected the light of the setting sun, and even his light-colored eyes were tinged with a hint of crimson.
“I won’t let you escape.”
He smiled, “Yufei.”
Hearing this, Shang Yufei was stunned, and the tips of his ears instantly turned red.
Bai Yue rarely called him by his first name.
“I didn’t mean that!” Shang Yufei was unusually flustered, “It’s just that I hadn’t thought about many things seriously before.”
Bai Yue: “If you had thought about them seriously, would you have dumped me?”
“Of course not!”
Shang Yufei frowned, “I’ve said it before, no matter what you become! I don’t care!”
After the initial excitement, he lowered his voice: “It’s just that there are many things I can no longer handle with the same attitude as before.”
Bai Yue looked at him.
Teasing Shang Yufei was a lot of fun. Because the other person reacted very strongly, especially when he was a child. And once he got shy, the tips of his ears would turn red.
Although the other person himself might not even be aware of this habit.
Bai Yue asked, “So now, can you look at me like you would an alpha?”
Shang Yufei was taken aback, then turned his head away. “I’ll try.”
Once the other person wavered, he would avoid eye contact.
Bai Yue noticed this and stood up. “Alright, it’s almost evening.” He looked down at Shang Yufei and smiled, “Let’s have dinner together after so long.”
His attitude was as relaxing as ever.
For some reason, Shang Yufei suddenly felt at ease.
No matter what Bai Yue was like during a battle, he was still Bai Yue.
He was about to stand up when he suddenly heard:
“Also,” Bai Yue asked, “can I touch you now?”
Shang Yufei stumbled and fell back down.
“W-what did you say?”
Bai Yue: “Because the last two times we met, you avoided me each time.”
To be precise, he pushed him away after he touched him.
Bai Yue squatted down: “Although it will take some time for us to get to know each other again,” he smiled, “but privately, I still want to be with you like a lover.”
Shang Yufei was silent for a long time, then suddenly said, “Idiot.”
He grabbed Bai Yue’s arm and pulled him into his arms, “You don’t need to ask about this, do you?”
It was a familiar, affectionate warmth.
Bai Yue rested his forehead against Shang Yufei’s shoulder.
Or perhaps it was because of the setting sun, but he felt warm all over.
Bai Yue closed his eyes.
“What do you want to eat tonight?”
“…”
“Meat.”
The dormitory at Imperial First had a communal kitchen. Bai Yue planned to go buy groceries first, then go back to cook.
When he walked out of the rooftop, the boy from before was gone.
“You two always stay together when you meet,” Bai Yue asked, “Are you friends?”
Friends?
Hearing this, Shang Yufei was slightly taken aback. Then he scratched his hair: “Tsk, I guess so.”
Unfortunately, Wu Zihao wasn’t there. If he had heard this with his own ears, he would have been moved to tears.
Bai Yue said with a smile, “Let’s introduce ourselves sometime. I want to get along well with your friends.”
Shang Yufei casually hummed in agreement.
Bai Yue suddenly remembered something and took out his phone from his pocket.
Shang Yufei noticed that it wasn’t the model Bai Yue had used before.
“You changed your phone?”
Bai Yue shook his head: “This belongs to someone else.”
Shang Yufei frowned, but before he could question him, he heard a question.
“Do you know anyone who is good with electronic products?”
A few minutes later,
Bai Yue took a little time to briefly explain what had happened on Planet Lia.
He looked at his phone: “These contain emails between Du Qin and the undercover agent; perhaps we can find some clues.”
Shang Yufei was silent for a moment, then said, “This isn’t your business.”
Hearing this, Bai Yue smiled: “Indeed, this has nothing to do with military merit or promotion.”
“However, as a future soldier of the empire, there are some things I have to do.”
He looked up: “The disciplinary team might have their reasons for asking me to keep this a secret. But frankly, I don’t trust them.”
If that’s the case, why join those people?
Shang Yufei looked at Bai Yue, but ultimately didn’t ask. Instead he reached for his phone.
“I understand.”
“However,” he said, “this is only for finding clues. Even if you determine who the undercover agent is, you’re not allowed to act on your own.”
“Of course,” Bai Yue said, “that’s enough.”
His original plan was to gather enough evidence and then report directly to his superiors, bypassing the disciplinary team.
