He lay at home for three days and three nights straight. Forget about recovering his brain, even if you threw two sandbags at Lu Dangui now, he could tie them to his legs and go out to participate in a marathon.

Taking advantage of his free time these past few days, he even went to IKEA to buy a bunch of things that Lu Wenfei could use in the dormitory.

When it was time for the visit, the counselor took him to Lu Wenfei’s dormitory. Before even entering the dormitory, Lu Dangui could hear the girls’ laughter rising and falling.

It turned out that there were no classes in the afternoon, so a group of good friends gathered in Lu Wenfei’s single dormitory to play Werewolf.

His younger sister was always lively and playful, but after the accident, she took a year off from school and became much more introverted. He was worried that Lu Wenfei wouldn’t fit in well in college, but to his surprise, she was surprisingly popular. Her friends from the department would come over to visit her whenever they had free time.

Seeing that his younger sister was having a happy time at school, Lu Dangui finally felt relieved.

After a three-day sick leave, Lu Dangui returned to his post and continued to contribute to the psychiatric department.

After the morning meeting, he held a thick stack of notes and materials he had compiled over the past few days and stopped Vice President Qiu, who had just come out of the conference room.

“Dean Qiu.”

Lu Dangui mustered up his courage and spoke.

“It’s Xiao Lu!”

Dean Qiu was also looking for him when he saw the young man walking towards him with a spirited expression. He immediately greeted him with a smile: “How are you? How is your recovery going?”

Lu Dangui was somewhat flattered and quickly nodded: “Thank you for your concern, Dean. I’m fine now.”

“Um… Dean.” In front of the dean, he quickly took out the materials he had compiled over the past few days. “These are the results of Mr. Xing’s first consultation. After I went back, I reviewed them and developed several phased treatment plans. Dean, please take a look and see if they are suitable?”

“……”

Looking at the enthusiastic young doctor in front of him, Vice President Qiu couldn’t help but sigh.

It’s rare to see such dedication among young people, and he really didn’t want to dampen Lu Dangui’s enthusiasm.

“Xiao Lu, it’s like this.” Dean Qiu softened his tone, “Mr. Xing is currently going through the discharge procedures and will not continue to stay in the hospital.”

“In other words, you will no longer be responsible for his follow-up treatment.”

Lu Dangui stood there, stunned.

“But…but—”

The news came so suddenly that he couldn’t react for a moment.

“However, I have some good news that I can tell you in advance.” As if suddenly remembering something, Dean Qiu continued, “Mr. Xing has transferred a very large sum of compensation to the hospital account, most of which is specifically for you. Because the amount involved is too large, the hospital leadership needs to hold a special meeting to discuss it, so we didn’t tell you immediately.”

He had assumed that after being viciously attacked by a patient, the young doctor would be unwilling to continue seeing patients. He never expected Lu Dangui to react this way, as if he had completely forgotten about almost being strangled to death.

“Dr. Lu, let me be frank. Mr. Xing’s unwillingness to continue treatment is actually a good thing for you.”

Dean Qiu hadn’t originally planned to be so direct, but he was in a hurry to get back to another meeting, so he could only keep it brief to Lu Dangui:

“Many psychiatric experts in China, including my teacher, have examined Mr. Xing, but his condition has not improved significantly. Mr. Xing’s situation is already special. If you continue to be responsible for his treatment and it doesn’t improve or worsens, you may encounter more trouble, you know?”

When Dean Qiu saw Lu Dangui standing there in a daze, not saying a word for a long time, he assumed that the young man had been intimidated by his words.

Before turning back to the conference room, Dean Qiu patted Lu Dangui on the shoulder and said reassuringly, “Xiao Lu, don’t worry. Once the finance department has finished reviewing it, the compensation will be deposited into your salary account in full.”

Just as he opened the conference room door, he suddenly heard Lu Dangui speak from behind him: “Dean Qiu.”

“Dean Qiu,” Lu Dangui held his breath, “but didn’t you say in your lecture that treating and saving lives is a doctor’s duty and should not be interfered with by any external factors?”

“After I got back, I thought about it for several days. I don’t think Mr. Xing’s aggressive behavior in the bathroom that day was caused by an illness.”

“According to Mr. Xing’s medical history, his emotional fluctuations have always been in a state of high repression. The delusional symptoms that occurred that night were initially just a stress response of his body trying to break through the unspeakable emotional symptoms. However, from the moment he hurt me, it was his inner instinct that promoted the behavior.”

“That night, I also felt Mr. Xing’s obvious emotional fluctuations. His emotions had clearly entered an arousal state, which is one of the signs of improvement in alexithymia.”

“So, Dean, Mr. Xing’s condition is not worsening.”

Lu Dangui stared intently at the old doctor in front of him.

“His condition is showing signs of improvement!”

He knew the dean understood what he meant and what he was trying to express.

However, he did not receive a positive response from Dean Qiu.

Dean Qiu simply patted him on the shoulder again, then shook his head and closed the conference room door.

Lu Dangui had pondered this for several days, and he had actually realized it on the very day he arrived at the conclusion.

But even so, what could be done?

Young Master Xing refused to cooperate with the treatment and insisted on being discharged from the hospital. Were they going to keep him there?

Looking at the tightly closed door in front of him, Lu Dangui slowly clenched his five fingers into a fist.

For the past few nights, he had been having the same bizarre dream: his sister’s legs were being cruelly crushed inch by inch, while Xing Cheng stood not far away, a cold-blooded bystander.

Xing Cheng was their family’s enemy, someone they hated very much; that was an undeniable fact.

But before that, he was still Lu Dangui’s patient.

In this world, no doctor would be willing to give up on a patient who can be saved.

After standing at the conference room door for a long time, Lu Dangui finally took a step and walked to the window at the end of the corridor. He picked up the medical record in his hand and entered the phone number written on the record into his phone.

He still wouldn’t give up.

He wanted to ask the person he had loathed for three whole years why they had given up halfway through treatment when the disease could have been cured.

He pressed the call button, and the phone started to ring.

Lu Dangui waited for a long time, but no one answered the phone.

Even seeing a doctor required the doctor to sign a confidentiality agreement. He always travelled with a group of bodyguards and was a very popular celebrity. He thus bet the contact information he left in his medical record should be a fake number.

A minute passed.

Just as he was about to hang up, the phone was suddenly answered.

And a detached male voice came from the other end of the phone:

“Hello?”
