City B currently had two major bases.

One was the Blue Light Base, led by Commander Chen, and the other was the Yonghui Base, led by General Mo.

Zhang Zhongmin’s parents and sister were all at the Blue Light Base led by Commander Chen. The man who informed Zhang Zhongmin earlier was right; his sister, ten years younger than him, was now the captain of the Seventh Squadron at the Blue Light Base in City D, quite prestigious.

The siblings were two grades apart, and Zhang Zhongmin was almost always in the army and rarely home, so their relationship wasn’t very close.

Zhang Xuemei sized up her unfamiliar brother. Although he seemed unfamiliar, there were many photos of him at home, so she recognized him.

However, he was much darker-skinned than in the photos.

Zhang Zhongmin left the City D base alone, but upon arriving in City B, he was surrounded by a car full of people. He was followed by more than ten superhumans, all of whom had willingly come with him.

“Brother,” Zhang Xuemei called out dryly.

Zhang Zhongmin nodded, unsure what to say to his younger sister, and could only awkwardly ask, “Are Mom and Dad alright?”

Zhang Xuemei nodded, “They’re fine, but they’re always worried about you.”

She had only hoped Zhang Zhongmin was still at D City University, but it seemed he really was. “You all should register first. After registration, you’ll need to pay crystal cores and food to enter the base.”

One of Zhang Zhongmin’s subordinates was a space-type ability user, and they had accumulated quite a bit of food and crystal cores along the way. After successfully registering and paying the supplies, they entered the base.

Having seen his parents and confirmed they were safe, Zhang Zhongmin couldn’t help but worry about the situation in D City. However, Zhang Zhongmin possessed a convincing aura, and his ability was considerable; all the dozen or so ability users he brought were led by him.

Chief Chen of the Blue Light Base was reluctant to let him leave, pleading with him earnestly, even joining forces with Zhang Zhongmin’s parents to try and persuade him to stay.

The D City base had many hidden dangers, but Zhang Zhongmin couldn’t bear to see his elderly parents worrying about him, leaving him in a dilemma.

Meanwhile, Lan Sheng and the others finally arrived at the D City base.

After circling the base, they finally found the Exclusive Restaurant, but the glass door was closed.

Lan Sheng, ignoring his exhaustion, got out of the car and looked around. Finding the door locked from the inside, he shouted, “Fu Ke, Lan Zhi, are you there?”

The people in the car got out one after another.

After Chen Meijia and the others squeezed into the Exclusive Restaurant, Lu Xun was forced to sleep in the living room, leaving the bedroom to the women. At this moment, they heard someone calling Fu Ke’s name.

Feng Han sat up abruptly, looking at the dim sky outside. She could vaguely see a large group of people standing at the entrance of the Exclusive Restaurant.

“Hey, wake up, wake up! Someone’s here!” Feng Han woke up Chen Meijia and Qiu Yingying.

Several women peered through the window. “It shouldn’t be anyone from the base. Everyone there knows Fu Ke is gone. Why would they call out Fu Ke’s name?”

“Right, Fu Ke said someone would come looking for her. Could it be this group?” Qiu Yingying said.

“Let’s go, wake Lu Xun.”

The women opened the door, woke Lu Xun, and then went downstairs together.

Fu Ke hadn’t taken the generator, so there was electricity. The lights in the Exclusive Restaurant came on, but Lan Sheng and the others saw several unfamiliar people coming down.

After opening the glass door, the two groups stared at each other.

Song Jing looked around, a hint of suspicion in her eyes. Had Fu Ke lied to them? If Fu Ke had lied, what about Lan Zhi? Even though she initially wanted to kill Lan Zhi, since Lan Zhi had become a zombie, Song Jing now that she understood, couldn’t help but worry about what Fu Ke might have done to Lan Zhi. After all, Fu Ke was so powerful… and if Fu Ke ate crystal cores, and Lan Zhi was also a zombie, would she eat Lan Zhi’s crystal core?

Lan Sheng glanced inside and saw several women and a man. “Excuse me, is Fu Ke here?” Fu Ke clearly saved Lan Zhi; so she wouldn’t lie to him, would she?

Even though Lan Sheng trusted Fu Ke implicitly, he couldn’t help but feel worried.

Lu Xun sized them up, his gaze lingering on Lan Sheng before scanning them one by one. He looked at everyone except Song Jing.

However, he couldn’t see anyone who resembled the zombie named Lan Zhi.

“Who are you?” Lu Xun didn’t answer the question but instead asked one.

“My name is Lan Sheng. Fu Ke sent me here to find her. Is she here?” Lan Sheng felt even more uneasy, suddenly realizing… What base could possibly house zombies?

So, was Fu Ke really here? If not, where should he look?

Lu Xun’s previously serious face immediately broke into a smile. “Lan Sheng, welcome.” He extended his hand to Lan Sheng, who was still a little confused, but he also extended his hand and shook hands with Lu Xun.

“I’ve been waiting for you for ages! Why are you only arriving now? I was starting to suspect that Fu Ke didn’t want me and was just using you to trick me,” Lu Xun complained.

“Sorry, something happened on the way, so I’m a little late. Where’s Fu Ke?” Actually, Lan Sheng was a bit confused by Lu Xun’s words, but it must be that Fu Ke had sent someone to wait for him.

While asking about Fu Ke, Lan Sheng really wanted to ask about Lan Zhi.

“Alright, it’s good that you’re here. I can finally leave this awful place!” Lu Xun said happily.

Qiu Yingying and the others exchanged glances. Lu Xun seemed quite happy, but everyone could hear the disappointment in his tone. After so long, they had long regarded the D City base as their home.

It gave them safety, the strength and environment to survive.

Now the base was slowly changing, and they could no longer see what it used to be like. How long had it been since Zhang Zhongmin left? The base had become like this.

So, even though they were utterly disappointed with the base, they were still reluctant to leave it.

“Do you think we still have a chance to come back?” Chen Meijia sighed softly.

“Wait, what do you mean by that? You’re going to Fu Ke’s place too??” Lu Xun looked at the women as if he’d seen a ghost.

“Of course, that’s what we planned from the moment we moved out of the base, okay?” Qiu Yingying rolled her eyes at his shocked expression.

“…” Lu Xun wanted to say that Fu Ke hadn’t allowed them to go. But he was well aware of their situation during this time, so he couldn’t bring himself to say it.

“Let me make this clear first, I can take you there, but if Fu Ke doesn’t want you, you’ll have to leave on your own. I won’t be responsible for you,” Lu Xun warned.

Lan Sheng looked at them blankly, then turned to look at his teammates.

Not long after Lu Xun left with Qiu Yingying and the others, as well as Lan Sheng and the others, the commotion at the Exclusive Restaurant was so great that the people at the base quickly found out.

Everyone was asleep when a loudspeaker suddenly blared throughout the base, announcing Lu Xun’s departure.

Some who were sound asleep were startled awake and wanted to curse.

However, the people in the base were timid, and with Fu Ke’s threat, they dared not do anything to Lu Xun, only gossiping behind his back. Now that Lu Xun was gone, they were naturally happy.

The thought of Lu Xun leaving seemed to dispel the gloom hanging over them. So even though they were woken up in the middle of the night, they were still happy.

Lu Xun and his group squeezed into the van, removing all the seats and laying down a layer of cotton wool on the floor. They also brought all the blankets from the Exclusive Restaurant. Squeezing together, it was still quite warm, except for Qiu Yingying and the others, who had to squeeze with the men.

Fortunately, everyone was considerate of them and tried to give them more space.

Lan Sheng breathed on his hands; driving at night was really cold. However, they had only been gone a short time, and the eyes and ears of those with superpowers were more acute than those of ordinary people.

Lu Xun said, “Stop the car.”

Hearing Lu Xun’s voice, Lan Sheng slammed on the brakes, causing everyone in the car to lurch forward uncontrollably, their hearts pounding with fear. The screeching sound of the brakes was extremely piercing.

“Roar—” Roars echoed from all directions.

Everyone in the car paled. Lan Sheng almost wanted to curse, but he needed Lu Xun to find Fu Ke, so he forced himself to hold it back, released the brakes, and floored the accelerator.

The car shot forward like an arrow. Lan Sheng was now completely focused on the road ahead, not daring to relax for a moment, his muscles tense.

Song Jing shouted angrily, “What were you doing? Do you know how dangerous that is!”

“Sorry,” Lu Xun apologized, but his expression was still very grim. In the darkness, apart from Qiu Yingying, no one else could see Lu Xun’s face.

Qiu Yingying’s reaction wasn’t as quick as Lu Xun’s, but she soon understood why Lu Xun’s expression was so grim.

She looked back: “Looks like they’re catching up.”

As Qiu Yingying spoke, the partition behind the van shattered instantly.

“Get down!” Lu Xun pounced, pinning everyone down and catching the ice arrow that had pierced the glass with his bare hands.

The night wind howled, the ice arrow piercing to the bone.

Qiu Yingying’s eyes widened: “A zombie with superpowers!”

Lu Xun gripped the ice arrow; it wasn’t as regular as a typical bow and arrow. With a squeeze, the ice arrow shattered. After telling them the address, Lu Xun said, “I’ll go down and deal with the zombies. You guys hurry up and get out of here!”

“I’ll go with you!” Qiu Yingying stood up and said.

“You can’t even solidify a water arrow; you’ll only be a hindrance. You and the others find Fu Ke as soon as possible, and then have Fu Ke come to rescue me, quick!” With that, Lu Xun opened the car door and jumped out.

Qiu Yingying’s heart tightened; she felt a pang of sadness because Lu Xun said she could only be a hindrance, and because, in this crucial moment, she really couldn’t help.

“Go!” Qiu Yingying shouted.

Lan Sheng gritted his teeth: “What about him? Can he hold on?”

“Lu Xun is an ability user, he should be able to hold off that zombie for a while. Let’s hurry and find Fu Ke,” Chen Meijia said urgently.

Lan Sheng didn’t hesitate any longer, flooring the accelerator, shifting to the highest gear, and speeding forward.

Anything blocking the way, sometimes indistinguishable between people and zombies, was simply driven through. However, it was late at night, and usually no one was out.

When Lu Xun jumped out of the car, he rolled several times on the ground. If it weren’t for the protection of his metal-type ability, he would probably have been seriously injured. After all, Lan Sheng hadn’t been able to react at all when he jumped and hadn’t slowed down.

Although he wasn’t injured, Lu Xun was still dizzy from the fall, and he got up and shook his head.

“Roar—” A zombie’s blood-red eyes stared silently at Lu Xun, then roared at the other zombies.

In an instant, the zombies that had stopped chasing the car when Lu Xun jumped out resumed their pursuit, varying in speed. Only the zombie giving commands remained.

This one must be the ice-type zombie.

Lu Xun conjured a long metal whip in his hand, its blades covered in sharp blades. He had practiced for a long time before he could wield the whip with such ease.

“Roar—” The fifth-tier zombie excitedly pounced on Lu Xun, but Lu Xun threw the whip, severing one of the zombie’s arms. The fifth-tier zombie, which had just regained consciousness and could give commands but whose intelligence was not as high, was stunned.

It lost its previous excitement and slowly lowered its head to look at the severed arm on the ground. Suddenly enraged, it roared, and countless ice needles gathered in the air from all directions.

Lu Xun’s eyelids twitched. He felt the chill from all directions. While using a weapon, he couldn’t possibly cover his entire body with metal for protection.

However, he wasn’t yet adept at switching between defense and offense; in other words, if he was on defense, he couldn’t attack, and when he attacked, his defense would weaken.

Switching between the two would create openings.
