Yun Zheng wanted to protect the Qin family and prevent it from following the path of decline of her previous life. She needed to address the root of the problem and improve the Qin family’s situation.

The original owner had already drained the Qin family of most of their resources; everything that could be sold, and even things that couldn’t be, had been destroyed. The Qin family was large, everyone needed to eat, and they also had to meet the original owner’s needs, leaving them heavily in debt.

Adding to this, the original owner’s suicide attempt had further strained the already precarious Qin family. To pay for her medical treatment, they had sold off a large portion of their ancestral brick courtyard house, leaving only a few dilapidated mud-brick houses.

The family was struggling to afford food. Although the original owner was the culprit behind all this, but ultimately, the Cheng family was the real instigator. That whole family was shameless!

They took advantage of the original owner’s naivety and gullibility, exploiting her to leech off the Qin family for years— they were utterly inhuman!

Now that she’s here, isn’t it reasonable for her to reclaim what’s rightfully hers?

Yun Zheng waited until Qin Baishi called Qin Zhihua and Qin Shuanglu to dig wild vegetables in the fields, and her uncle and aunt took her eldest brother, second brother, third sister, and fourth brother to work in the fields, leaving no one at home. Only then did she have the chance to sneak out.

Just as she stepped out of the house, a soft exclamation came from behind, “Oh, Fifth Sister, why are you up?”

Yun Zheng turned her head and saw a girl in coarse cloth clothes, with braided hair, carrying a basket on her back, walking towards the courtyard gate. It was none other than the original owner’s third sister, Qin Yunsheng.

“Third Sister, didn’t you go to the fields?” Yun Zheng stepped forward to help her take down the basket of pig feed and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

“Fifth Sister, no need. Third Sister just finished working in the fields; be careful not to smell bad.”

Qin Yunsheng was flattered and took a step back, her hands nervously twisting together. She knew that her fifth sister usually disliked her, so why was she suddenly being so friendly today, wiping her sweat?

But she didn’t think too much about it. She took a bright red fruit from her pocket and carefully placed it in Yun Zheng’s hand. “Fifth Sister, I found a wild fruit on the edge of the field. It must have fallen from someone else’s hand. I was afraid it would spoil if I left it too long, so I brought it back for you. Your mouth must have been very bitter from taking medicine these past few days. Eating this wild fruit will cleanse your palate; it’s very sweet.”

Yun Zheng met Qin Yunsheng’s dark, bright eyes and felt a pang of pain in her heart.

The family was struggling to even get enough to eat. So Qin Yunsheng, due to lack of food and poor nutrition, had suffered from chronic malnutrition, resulting in her being thin and frail, with dry, yellow hair and a pale face.

Even at 18, she was still wearing old clothes she had picked up from others, patched and faded from washing.

Before the Qin family’s decline, Qin Yunsheng was a beautiful young woman, with rosy lips, white teeth, and gentle features; such that everyone who saw her was captivated.

She and her two older brothers were all born to Qin Baishi’s eldest son, belonging to the direct bloodline. Yun Zheng, on the other hand, was a collateral bloodline, so Qin Baishi should have favored her more.

However, the treatment she received was vastly different from the original owner’s. Compared to her other brothers, although Qin Baishi treated Qin Yunsheng fairly well, it was far less than half of what the original owner received.

Qin Yunsheng never competed or fought for anything, feeling that as the older sister, it was her duty to love her younger sister. She never complained about Qin Baishi’s favoritism. She should have been in her final year of high school last year, but she willingly dropped out to farm at home to pay off debts and ensure her younger sister had no worries.

No matter how hard life was, she always thought of the original owner.

The wild fruit in her hand was small, but it carried the heavy weight of an older sister’s love for her younger sister.

Yun Zheng’s eyes stung with tears. After thinking for a moment, she pulled out an egg that Qin Baishi had given her before leaving.

“Third Sister, this is for you.”

Qin Yunsheng was genuinely shocked. Her eyes widened on her thin, dark face, and she quickly waved her hands.

“Fifth Sister, what are you doing? This is an egg! Grandma specially saved it for you to nourish your body. How could Third Sister deserve to eat it?”

The author has something to say:

*Sobbing* Qin Yunsheng is such a fairy-like sister! I want her so badly!
