The elevated highway was terribly congested, and drivers were complaining. Many others, bored out of their minds, rolled down their windows to watch the commotion. One driver even laughed when he saw the group walking onto the elevated highway, saying, “Oh, so many Taoist priests?”

“Who knows? I guess it’s because of traffic jams. What terrible traffic conditions on the Third Ring Road. I want to get off and walk around like them.”

Taoist priests: “…”

Besides the little fat boy’s crying, there was also the driver’s cursing: “Officer, these people are so weird. As soon as they saw the traffic jam, they opened the door and ran away. I couldn’t call them back. Luckily, this little fat boy is too big to run fast, so I caught him. You have to make him pay my fare.”

While being questioned by the police, the chubby boy had to feign grievance and say, “My senior brother called the car on his phone; I really don’t have any money on me.”

The driver was furious when he heard this and started cursing loudly. The drivers in front and behind him couldn’t help but gasp when they saw the handcuffs on the chubby guy’s wrists: “Wow! Is it really that serious to ride in a car for free these days?”

The Taoist priests continued: “………………”

The police officer who led them around explained, somewhat exasperated, “Here’s what happened: This group of cult members took a ride-hailing service to leave the city, but they got stuck in traffic on the elevated highway. They were probably worried about being caught by us, so they decided to abandon the car and run away. The driver, who was chasing them for the fare, chased them for half the elevated highway and finally caught the slowest one. The nearest arrest team arrived after hearing the news and immediately discovered that he was one of the suspects we were looking for.”

Tuan Tuanyi muttered to himself, “…How could they have been caught like this? Are these people idiots?”

Master Quan remained silent for a while, seemingly trying to save face for someone: “…Perhaps people from out of town are unfamiliar with Beijing’s road conditions.”

Wei Xi frowned as he looked at the dense traffic on the bridge, once again sensing some indescribable dangers from the world outside the mountains.

When the chubby boy was brought over, tears streamed down his face. He still had wounds on his face from being beaten by the ride-hailing driver. He trembled even more violently when he saw Wei Xi.

Kuang Zhiming grabbed him, shouting, “Where have you taken my wife’s soul?!”

The chubby boy, ashamed, let him shake him: “No, it’s not with me, it’s with my senior brother. They think I’m unreliable and won’t let me help them carry it.”

Kuang Zhiming’s eyes were red as he stared intently at him. The chubby boy also looked aggrieved: “We didn’t expect to succeed. My senior brother is so incompetent that even the underworld officials couldn’t be summoned by him. We were just unwilling to run away like this and wanted to cause you trouble before we left, so we performed a ritual to summon a group of wild ghosts. Most of them were sent to the Taicang Sect, and you only got three. Who knew that we would actually summon Master Xu’s soul?”

As he spoke, he glanced at the ride-hailing driver in the distance who was still staring at him menacingly despite the police’s attempts to dissuade him, and asked pitifully, “Dear Taoist priests, could you lend me some money? I really don’t have any money on me. My senior brother is busy running around right now, and I don’t know if he’ll remember to pay the fare.”

No one paid any attention to his request for money; instead, they immediately seized on the key point of his previous statement: “Fellow Daoist Wei, are you feeling unwell?”

Wei Xi racked his brains for a moment, then felt completely bewildered. Aside from a few officials from the City God Bureau, he hadn’t seen a single ghost all day. He decided to call home to inquire if anyone in the sect had been in trouble. Butler Zhou answered the call, looking rather confused by his question: “Master just went out for a meeting, Madam is having tea with friends in the courtyard, Second Young Master just left after cleaning the stone tablet, saying he has a party to attend today, and Mike is eating cookies… Why are you asking about them, Young Master?”

Wei Xi hung up the phone and asked Xiao Pang, “Did you really summon the spirits to the Taicang Sect?”

“Of course we wouldn’t go to your temple. My senior brother said your temple is very sinister. If we’re going to do anything, we should target your temple’s businesses. Don’t you have several branch companies listed on Baidu Baike?” Xiao Pang’s tone became admiring. “I didn’t know until I looked it up. Master Wei, your temple hasn’t been open for long, but I didn’t expect your business scope to be so wide. You’re even better at making money than us cults.”

One of the Taoist priests immediately pulled out his phone to search but was speechless after seeing the information on Baidu Encyclopedia. It contained things like detective agencies and haunted house chains… But the situation was critical, and it wasn’t a good time for them to be speechless. The group quickly started analyzing: “The detective agency’s business is unclear, the health center is in Wei Daoyou Temple, and the brokerage company has a complicated staff. The ghost is most likely to be sent to Wei Daoyou’s haunted house!”

The chubby boy said, “Why are you all so surprised? This is the only haunted house that has a specific address, okay?”

Taoist priests: “…”

The chubby boy said, “Besides, my senior brother said that trendy stores have a bigger impact. This haunted house is doing so well, it will definitely go out of business if rumors of ghost encounters spread. It’s a way of venting our anger.”

As he spoke, he proudly glanced at the group from Taicang Sect, then paused, surprised: “Huh? Why do you all have that expression?”

Tuan Tuanyi: “…”

Wei Xi: “…”

Shuo Zong: “…”

….

The Taoist priests looked solemn: “Fellow Daoist Wei, we must set off immediately for your temple’s haunted house!”

Wei Xi: “Isn’t that unnecessary?”

Seeing his nonchalant attitude, Master Quan became anxious: “Fellow Daoist Wei! Your haunted house is open to the public, and the visitors are all ordinary people. What if the Cultivation Sect sends out evil spirits to invade? What if something goes wrong?”

Wei Xi really didn’t think it was that serious, but no one at the scene seemed to be listening to him. After a moment of chaos, everyone decided to head to the suburbs on their own. Due to the urgency of the situation, the Taoist priests even requested several police cars from the police at the scene.

The haunted house in the suburbs still stood quietly in the distance. Before the car even got close, the Taoist priests’ eyes widened in shock, and they began to whisper amongst themselves—

“Such a strong ghostly aura!”

“It’s even more gloomy than a desolate graveyard!”

Wei Xi peeked out and found that it was fine, just like usual. The yin energy was a little stronger, but the haunted house had been expanded recently and more staff had been added, so it was inevitable.

The Taoist priests stared intently at the building, quickly rummaging through their magical artifacts. After getting out of the car, they hurriedly ran towards the haunted house. Halfway there, they suddenly heard several deafening screams coming from inside.

The screams rose and fell, filled with fear and heart-wrenching agony. Then, several disheveled tourists rushed out of the haunted house exit, their faces filled with terror and their steps unsteady.

“Not good!”

The Taoist priests quickened their pace and rushed off!
