Feng Bo and Shui Shi clearly had very lofty ambitions for their future career plans.

Wei Dedao: “???”

Xia Shouren couldn’t bear to see them go astray, and advised them, “Two star lords, you have such abilities to control clouds and rain, why do this?”

They were, after all, celestial beings in the heavens. Even if they had fallen on hard times, they shouldn’t have to resort to treating athlete’s foot.

Not only did Feng Bo not listen, but he also retorted with great dissatisfaction: “Why should we, who know how to control clouds and rain, be content to only control rain for the rest of our lives? We are two dignified celestial stars, divine bones appointed by the Heavenly Dao. Are we not qualified enough to heal this athlete’s foot like this false god? Are you doubting that we might not heal it well enough?”

Xia Shouren, suddenly labeled, was left bewildered: “???”

Xia Shouren silently turned his head away: “…I didn’t mean that…Never mind, it’s none of my business. You can do whatever jobs you want.”

Seeing that the wind and rain gods had driven away the stumbling block in their path to divinity, they stared intently at Wei Dedao.

Wei Dedao hunched over, looking like a down-on-his-luck old scholar, a hint of hesitation flashing in his lifeless eyes: “…If the Star Lords insist, then of course it’s not impossible.”

When the Wind God and Rain Master heard that they could now help believers cure athlete’s foot, they were overjoyed. These two dignified celestial beings were as happy as poor mortals who had found money.

Looking at this speechless scene, Xia Shouren couldn’t help but weakly complain to his friend: “…I think I probably know why they were so easily bewitched by the Demon of Trouble.”

Shuo Zong: “…”

….

In the early morning, Lehe City once again descended into the hustle and bustle of a bustling metropolis.

The air was humid. During the morning rush hour, countless cars merged into the congested roads. The pleasant voice of the morning news anchor echoed in the closed car windows.

Subway entrances and bus stops were bustling with people, as large numbers of young people flocked from all corners of the city to the downtown business district.

At the subway exit, several white-collar workers bundled up in winter clothes chatted idly while taking out their umbrellas.

“Hey, did you see the morning news today? There was a really funny story.”

“Which news? Is it the one about cult members being arrested by the police?”

“Haha, what arrest? This guy turned himself in. It said he suddenly called 110 last night, claiming to be the initiator of a criminal sacrificial activity of a cult, and told the police to come and arrest him immediately. The operator at the call center was very confused by him. After asking a few more questions, this guy actually cursed at the operator and then hung up the phone and ran to the nearest police station. It was late at night, and it startled the officers on duty.”

The office worker, while speaking, took out her phone and showed the video to her colleagues. The morning news anchor in the video looked utterly bewildered when reporting the news. The camera then panned to the chaotic scene at the local police station. Amidst the cacophony of voices, the hook-nosed man’s lecturing voice, “You guys are so inefficient! Asking around and making such a fuss in the capital, it’s not that far anyway, I just came here myself! You’re hindering my enlightenment!” was particularly clear.

A group of people burst into laughter: “This is the first time in my life I’ve ever heard of someone turning themselves in and being so smug about it, even having an epiphany. Could it be that he was commanded by the deity he worships to turn himself in?”

“Then their deity really has a strong sense of the rule of law, hahaha, no wonder people say that those who believe in cults are not quite right in the head.”

As they were talking, the host began to broadcast the next news item, which mentioned the dozens of dilapidated buildings registered in Lehe City as part of the city’s urban planning efforts.

One of the white-collar workers pointed to the footage captured by the reporter and looked surprised: “Oh my, isn’t this the old house next to my parents’ house that’s been empty for decades? When I was a kid, my best friends and I used to play there all the time, but the front door was always locked. I’ve never been inside. I only know that it’s very nicely built. What is this house for? Is it going to be slated for demolition?”

His friend said, “How could that be? Didn’t you hear what the reporters said? This house is hundreds of years old. Every brick and tile is a cultural relic that is very worthy of study. The city has allocated funds for its repair and research, but they are too busy to afford to demolish it.”

As expected, the host on the phone mentioned that municipal workers had found a lot of special information in these dusty mansions. Using this information, along with the research of many experts in recent years, she shifted the topic to the interesting human history of Lehe City.

The office workers who stepped into the elevator listened with great interest, occasionally showing expressions of surprise.

“So those houses were used as temples before. Wind God? Rain Master? What kind of deities are these?”

Another colleague exclaimed in realization, “So it’s them! I saw these two names when I was writing my graduate thesis. They were among the earliest deities worshipped in Lehe.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes, it is said that Lehe used to be an arid area. Thousands of years ago, our ancestors in ancient times began to worship these two gods in order to get rain. Although these two gods are not famous, they have a very long history in Lehe. Their totems can be found in many tombs unearthed here. That article was written by a history expert in Ningtian’s research institute. There is a lot of supporting evidence, so it should not be false. You can also look for it if you have the chance.”

“So, these must be very powerful deities? Blessing Lehe with good weather for thousands of years? But in modern times, they ahve been completely forgotten. I guess it’s because Lehe no longer lacks rain?”

“It doesn’t matter if there’s enough rain.” A young man wearing a brown coat said this, then jokingly put his hands together in prayer towards the subway exit, muttering, “Wind God and Rain Master, please bless Lehe and let the rain stop soon. It’s been raining for more than half a month, and if it doesn’t stop soon I really won’t have any dry socks to wear.”

Her colleagues burst into laughter upon hearing this and joined in the bowing.

After the group finished their prayers, they stepped out of the elevator, opened their umbrellas, and were about to open them as they had done in the previous days when their expressions suddenly froze—

“What?!”

Other commuters outside the subway exit also noticed something, and they all incredulously moved their umbrellas away from their heads: “The rain has stopped?!”

The ground still bore traces of dampness, but the dark clouds that had hung over the sky for more than half a month quietly began to disperse, and the long-awaited morning sunlight streamed in through the gaps in the clouds, instantly lifting the spirits that had been dampened by the continuous rain.

Office workers shook off their previous gloomy faces, and some even cheered exaggeratedly. Their steps to work became much lighter.

Those young office workers who had made wishes earlier were now standing at the subway entrance, looking at each other in bewilderment. Was it a coincidence? This was too effective!

After a moment of silence, someone among them finally spoke—

Do you think… things will turn out the way I imagine?

“Didn’t they say those old temples would be open to the public after they were renovated? I’ll go and pay my respects to those two deities when I have time.”

….

Not far away, the Wind God and Rain Master received the glances from Wei Xi and Tuan Tuanyi, and deftly withdrew their hands that had been raised towards the sky.

The two deities, who had recently been accusing their followers of being ungrateful, looked somewhat uncomfortable. Feng Bo even glared angrily at Wei Xi: “What are you looking at! What’s so interesting!”

Wei Xi stared at him, slowly raised his eyebrows, and stroked the God-Slaying Whip that his second apprentice hadn’t taken away and was wrapped around his waist: “Taking on side jobs without reporting them, and the boss hasn’t even reprimanded you yet, and you’re already talking to the boss in this tone?”

Feng Bo: “………………”

Side jobs…

That didn’t seem too wrong.

He then realized that his current leader was not the Heavenly Emperor, and he no longer held a secure job in Heaven.

Feng Bo was experiencing the first wave of confusion about the difference in work environment after a state-owned enterprise employee joined a private company. Stories circulating in the mortal realm often depicted the Heavenly Court as a feudal monarchy, with the Heavenly Emperor as a powerful ruler. However, this was not the case. The truly absolute authority in the divine realm should be the Heavenly Dao. Apart from the Heavenly Dao, all other deities, regardless of rank, entered their positions through the faith of their followers and the Heavenly Dao’s appointment. Therefore, although the Heavenly Emperor was the highest-ranking leader in the Heavenly Court, due to the special nature of the organization, his attitude towards the gods under him was usually very polite. Any decisions required a meeting, discussion, and a vote.

Unlike Wei Xi, a private business owner, who would threaten to fire at the slightest provocation.

Feng Bo felt deeply humiliated, and his divine pride stirred within him, making him wish he could fight Wei Xi again.
