Suddenly, an old cough came from the side: “Star Lord… my disciple…”

The Wind God immediately fell silent: “…Shut up.”

Are you going to say again that your disciple is too young and doesn’t understand things?

Feng Bo glanced at Wei Dedao, whose body was bathed in the morning sunlight with golden light of merit. Although it was just a phantom, it was so dazzling that it made people’s hearts tremble.

The old man stared with unfocused, lifeless eyes, his body language and expression conveying the message: “I am weak, I am blind, I can’t see anything and I can’t do anything.”

But Feng Bo had no doubt that as long as he rushed toward Wei Xi, the old man would nimbly block him the moment he made his move, and then use his merits to frame him and get struck by lightning.

Since this is the outcome, what’s the point of fighting? Feng Bo wasn’t stupid; he could only snort coldly and turn to leave.

Wei Xi withdrew his hand from stroking the God-Slaying Whip, glanced at Wei Dedao, who smiled as if he knew nothing.

Wei Xi snorted, and seeing Wei Dedao looking as weak and listless as ever, he was finally less angry.

As the Wind God approached, the Rain Master gazed wistfully at the surging crowd ahead: “Having stayed in Heaven for so long, I’ve unknowingly witnessed how the mortal realm has become like this. It’s truly prosperous and peaceful. This is the first time in thousands of years, Fei Lian?”

Fei Lian was the Wind God’s real name. The Wind God didn’t reply, his brow furrowed and his face tense. For some reason, his mind drifted back to thousands of years ago, a time when the land was barren and humanity was among the weakest of creatures. They had just become gods, spending their days amidst flourishing incense offerings, enjoying boundless glory and receiving utmost reverence as they brought rain to their believers. Yet, even so, people still suffered greatly for various reasons. Harvests failed, wild animals attacked, disasters and plagues ravaged the land; human life was as insignificant as grass, and a single misstep could result in mass deaths.

The land of Northern Wilderness was too barren and unsuitable for survival. With his and the Rain Master’s power, they were completely unable to feed all the believers.

As time went by, and no one knew when it started, Feng Bo stopped daring to descend to the mortal realm. It seemed that by staying in the Heavenly Court every day, he could avoid seeing those things.

His memory suddenly blurred and transformed into the real scene before his eyes: a large group of identical residents pouring out of the subway entrance ahead.

Most of the residents in this group were elderly people leading young children. The children were bundled up tightly in the winter, but their faces, peeking out from under their hats, were fair and clean, some even chubby, showing no signs of hardship. The elderly, on the other hand, walked briskly, holding the children’s hands, full of energy. Some even carried large schoolbags on their backs, showing no signs of strain despite their advanced age.

As the children passed by Feng Bo and Shui Shi, an elderly woman took out a plastic bag from his schoolbag and handed it to one of them: “Hurry up and eat breakfast. You slept in so late, you won’t be allowed to eat once you get to school.”

The child held the large bag of things, looking distressed: “Grandma, there’s too much, I can’t finish it all.”

“No!” the old woman said. “You’re still young and growing, so you need to eat more. Drink all the milk!”

The child awkwardly sipped milk as he walked, the aroma of meat buns wafting on the cold wind. Shui Shi watched the backs of the grandmother and grandson and chuckled, “I suddenly feel that this era that doesn’t worship or believe in us isn’t so bad after all. At least back in our time, the believers of the Northern Wilderness River didn’t live like this. Didn’t we become gods in the first place to protect them?”

The Wind God turned his gaze away and hummed softly.

….

Everyone was exhausted after staying up all night. After returning to the capital, Mr. Gu hurriedly went back to his unit to report on his duties, while Wei Xi led the sect disciples to rest briefly before going to Wuhua to pray for rain.

On the way back, Wei Xi was exhausted, and with the car’s air conditioning making it warm and cozy, he immediately clung to his second apprentice, just like always.

The second apprentice felt warm and didn’t reject him. He even reached out and gently combed his hair.

Wei Dedao, who had stubbornly refused to put the jade pendant in his mouth, hesitated to speak. Every time he tried to open his mouth, he noticed the cold gaze of Shuo Zong hitting his face. So after a moment of silence, he could only turn to Tuan Tuanyi beside him.

Wei Dedao said, “Tuan Tuanyi, tilt your head to the side.”

Tuan Tuanyi turned his head and looked directly at his master and second junior brother, who were being affectionate with each other.

Wei Dedao asked, “Do you have anything to say?”

Tuanyi: “Of course!”

Wei Dedao thought to himself, “Excellent! You truly deserve to be the 63rd generation of the Taicang Sect’s most outstanding disciple. I’m just waiting for you to speak up and stop your master and junior brother: ‘Speak freely.'”

Tuan Tuanyi’s eyes immediately lit up with anticipation. He panted heavily, patted his chest, and asked excitedly, “What I want to say is, Grandmaster, Heavenly Venerable, would you like to lean on me and rest for a while too!”

Wei Dedao: “…”

Wei Dedao suddenly realized that this grand-disciple did not seem to be as exceptionally talented as he thought.

The unresponsive Tuan Tuanyi: “???”

Tuanyi realized he had been rejected from his master’s silence. He couldn’t help but turn to look at his master and junior brother again, feeling a little resentful.

It’s not strange at all. Isn’t that how Master and Junior Brother always are? He was just a little envious, thinking to himself, “My chest is also very broad, maybe even broader than Junior Brother’s. Why won’t you lean on me, Grandmaster?”

Wei Dedao was a little tired. Taking advantage of the moment when his second disciple left after entering the house, he smiled and approached his disciple again: “Xi’er, it seems that you and your second disciple have a very good relationship?”

Wei Xi: “Of course.”

His answer was so matter-of-fact that Wei Dedao didn’t know where to begin his education. These past few days, he had seen too much from the Taicang Sect’s leader’s token, and every moment he regretted not giving his disciple the proper education he should have received back on the mountain. Now that he could finally reveal himself to his disciple, he truly wanted to make up for all the lessons he had missed over the years.

Wei Dedao said slowly, “But Xi’er, do you know that there should be some etiquette between a normal master and disciple?”

Wei Xi: “Oh? What kind of etiquette?”

Wei Dedao thought for a moment, and when he thought about the way his own disciple and his “grand-disciple” got along, he didn’t know where to start: “First of all… it’s about keeping a certain distance.”

Wei Xi thought for a moment, then nodded and said, “I see.”

Then, under Wei Dedao’s gaze, he took off the sect leader’s token from his neck and placed it next to the image of the Daoist Celestial Venerable in the living room.

Wei Dedao: “………………What are you doing?”

Wei Xi said, “Didn’t you say to keep some distance? I didn’t know you were inside, which is why I kept this sect leader’s token close to my body.”

Shuo Zong glanced at Wei Dedao, who was frozen in place, and chuckled.

His relaxed and languid posture against the wall was quite pleasing to the eye, and the passing Butler Zhou couldn’t help but turn around and glance at him again.

Shuo Zong met his gaze.

Butler Zhou seemed to sense that this taciturn second apprentice wanted to express something to him, so he stood up straight and waited.

The next second, the other person didn’t say anything, but simply raised his hand and touched the striking purple-gold chain around his neck without uttering a word.

Butler Zhou: “??????”
