Murong Cang immediately stopped laughing and said with a dark expression, “Girl, you decide what to do! No one is more important than Yu Jian.”

Yun Qianyu understood Murong Cang’s meaning.

Murong Cang thought of something and said to Yun Qianyu, “Girl, once Yu Jian ascends the throne, you will also be in charge of supervising the government from now on. This right is indispensable, so…”

“Grandpa, Qianyu already has the right to supervise the government, and doesn’t need any other rights. Grandpa, give all the rights to the Yu Jian, and let them know from the beginning who their master is. Qianyu only wants one thing.”

“What does the girl want?” Murong Cang didn’t expect that Yun Qianyu wouldn’t want any rights.

“Grandpa’s Imperial Sword!” Yun Qianyu said solemnly. Murong Cang was surprised to hear this. The Imperial Sword was actually the emperor’s personal sword. It represented imperial power and had the right to execute first and report later. If this Imperial Sword belonged to the previous monarch, it could also punish the unjust emperor and the disloyal minister. It was conceivable how much authority such an Imperial Sword had.

“Alright, on the day Yujian ascends the throne, Grandpa will bestow the Imperial Sword upon you.” Murong Cang had no doubt about Yun Qianyu’s intentions.

Yun Qianyu smiled faintly at Murong Cang’s trust.

“Grandpa, Yujian is very intelligent. He’s maturing much faster than we imagined. When he’s fully capable of ruling in his own right, Qianyu will hand over Grandpa’s Imperial Sword to him.”

“Girl, the Imperial Sword is yours now that it’s been bestowed upon you. Aren’t you hurting Grandpa’s feelings? If I can’t trust you, who can I trust?” Murong Cang said unhappily.

“Grandpa, Qianyu knows you trust me, but I don’t trust my own descendants. For me, the only purpose of the Imperial Sword is to clear obstacles for Yujian. Once Yujian is capable of protecting Nanlou Kingdom on his own, the Imperial Sword will lose its purpose.”

“Girl, how can you make me feel so sorry for you!” Tears welled up in Murong Cang’s old eyes. He knew Yun Qianyu’s words were meant to reassure him; the Imperial Sword wouldn’t harm any of the royal family’s interests.

After discussing the specifics of the ascension to the throne, Yun Qianyu returned to her palace.

Murong Cang, however, sat silently behind his throne for a long time.

Li Jintian stood bowing beside him, his heart heavy with sorrow.

“Old friend, come here,” Murong Cang beckoned to Li Jintian.

“Your Majesty, this old servant is here.”

“Old friend, how old are you this year?”

“Your Majesty, this old servant is sixty-three this year.” Li Jintian wiped away his tears with his sleeve.

“I’m two years older than you! Time flies! I’ve grown old in the blink of an eye.”

“Your Majesty is right.”

“You’ve been with me since I was six or seven. Back then you were just a little kid, unable to keep up with me even when walking, and I had to deliberately slow down to wait for you.”

Murong Cang smiled, recalling the past.

“That’s because Your Majesty is considerate of this old servant.”

“Decades have passed in the blink of an eye. In this lifetime, you’ve spent more time with me than anyone else, understanding me as well as you understand yourself. Now that I’m leaving, you, my old companion, will look after these two children for me. Don’t forget to tell me about them during the annual ancestral rites.”

“Your Majesty…” Li Jintian was already sobbing uncontrollably.

“Why are you crying? Everyone has to face this day sooner or later, it’s just a matter of time. I’m open-minded, but I’m worried about these two children!” Murong Cang sighed.

“Your Majesty, the Crown Prince is extremely intelligent, and the Princess is also outstanding. Judging from the Princess’s actions these past few days, this old servant feels that it won’t be easy to harm the Crown Prince from the Princess’s hands.”

“Indeed, that girl is shrewd!” Murong Cang smiled as he thought of Yun Qianyu.

From the annulment of the engagement at Fengyun Manor to the present, Yun Qianyu had resolved so many matters with ease, something Murong Cang had witnessed firsthand.

But Yun Qianyu was not as calm as she appeared.

Back in her palace, she went straight to bed, neglecting even her daily cultivation.

She knew there were many things she couldn’t control, like the pain of separation by death! Murong Cang’s words today finally made her realize that those she cherished would also leave her. This life was different from the last. In the last life, she only worried about her younger brother, who had grown up under her protection, so she had no worries.

Therefore, she had no regrets when she left. But in this life, her heart had gradually filled with too many people, and suddenly she felt afraid— afraid of loss, afraid that one day they would be drinking and chatting happily, and the next they would be separated by death!

Yun Qianyu stroked the red bean bracelet and the crystal-clear heart-shaped jade pendant on her wrist, thinking of Gong Sangmo. What if Gong Sangmo left her? Yun Qianyu’s heart ached, as if it were empty. She suddenly realized that Gong Sangmo had unknowingly become an indispensable part of her life.

Yun Qianyu pressed her face against the bracelet with relief, thankful that she had understood just in time!

The night deepened, and Yun Qianyu, a faint smile on her lips, drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Yujian arrived excitedly.

As soon as he entered, he asked, “Royal Sister, are you ready?”

“Why are you so happy?” Yun Qianyu asked.

“Royal Sister won the bet, of course Yujian is happy.”

“Come here, Royal Sister has something to tell you.” Yun Qianyu called Yujian over.

“What is it?” Yujian obediently came over.

Yun Qianyu told Yujian about what she had discussed with Murong Cang the previous night.

Yujian listened in silence for a moment, but instead of the expected breakdown, he calmly said, “That’s good. Grandpa has worked hard his whole life; let him rest in his final days!”

Yun Qianyu looked at Yujian with surprise and said with relief, “Yujian has grown up.”

Little did she know that all of this was the result of Gong Sangmo’s efforts the previous day, which made Yujian suddenly understand that he also wanted to do what he could for those who cared about him, and whom he cared about in return.

“Alright, Your Majesty, we have a tough task at court today. Let’s eat first.” Yu Jian sat down at the table first, picked up the porridge cooked by Hong Su, and began to drink.
