Du Yi obediently agreed and saw Tao Yuan to the door, only closing the door after watching him get into the elevator.
The original owner’s workplace was a traditional-style teahouse, quite large, with five or six courtyards of different levels, specifically for guests to drink tea and listen to music. The original owner’s job here was to play the guqin for guests.
“Manager Wu,” Tao Yuan greeted him as he was heading to the dressing room, seeing the manager emerging from the lounge.
“Qingyu’s here,” Manager Wu said, looking at Tao Yuan and thinking for a moment. “Today is your last day playing the guqin here. I know you’re short on money right now, but you’ve offended Boss Zhang, so I can’t keep you here any longer. Otherwise, if he sees you still here next time, he might cause you trouble, and that would put us in a difficult position.”
“I know, I won’t make things difficult for you. After today, I’ll find another place,” Tao Yuan said.
Manager Wu nodded. “I’ll give you a raise this week. Your father used to be a regular customer, so I’ll personally add a little extra tip for him.”
“Thank you, Manager Wu, but please keep it as is. I don’t like owing people favors,” Tao Yuan said. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll find a new job soon.”
“You’re so stubborn,” Manager Wu said helplessly. “You know, even though Boss Zhang is a bit of a scoundrel, he only touched your hand. You could just let it go. Instead, you splashed water on his face. Luckily it wasn’t hot water, or you’d be in big trouble.”
“I thought that people who come to teahouses, no matter how dirty their hearts are, should at least behave properly on the surface. Someone like Boss Zhang should go to a fancy hotel, not a teahouse. A teahouse can’t satisfy his desires.”
“Boss Zhang is a notorious lecher. He doesn’t come here for tea very often, usually with clients. But he was actually quite restrained when he came here,” Manager Wu said, looking at his delicate features and supple skin. “I guess it’s because you’re so good-looking that he couldn’t resist. He didn’t expect you to dare splash water on him. He just touched you; most people would have tolerated that.”
“I’m sorry, Manager Wu, for causing you trouble,” Tao Yuan said, but he knew very well that Boss Zhang had indeed been lustful towards the original owner of this body. However, he deliberately touched him in a teahouse to provoke him. He did this because someone instructed him— Xu Shaoyan’s boyfriend, Liu Xiujie.
“What’s done is done, so there’s no need to say anything more. Just try to change your temper in the future,” Manager Wu sighed, shook his head, and left.
Tao Yuan went to the dressing room to change. After changing, he stood in front of the mirror to tidy himself up. Looking at his face in the mirror, Tao Yuan also felt that such a charming face was hard not to arouse the desires of those lecherous men. The original owner had received numerous hints of offers to be his sugar daddy, some even directly approaching the manager to offer their services, but he had resolutely refused.
The courtyard where he played the zither was less expensive than the other courtyards in the teahouse, so it was a large room that could seat a dozen or twenty tables of guests. The upscale private rooms usually housed highly skilled zither players, and the prices were quite high.
The original owner’s zither skills were decent, which allowed him to play in this teahouse, but compared to true masters, his skills were still far from perfect.
Tao Yuan sat cross-legged in front of the screen, dressed in a flowing white ink-painted ancient costume, which accentuated his handsome face, making him captivating.
Although the original owner’s zither skills were somewhat lacking, Tao Yuan possessed the system, so playing at a master level was no problem for him.
He plucked the strings, and the ancient and melodious music, like a gentle breeze suddenly blowing, brought a refreshing spring to the heart. Those who had feigned elegance sitting in the room suddenly felt they had finally learned to appreciate music and had truly become refined.
Even the regular customers who had previously only admired the original owner’s face now closed their eyes, feeling the gentle flow of the music and the clear breeze and bright moon. It was as if, in an instant, the restlessness in their hearts calmed down, the pressure and fatigue of the day slowly receded, and even the aroma of the tea on the table became more enticing.
Manager Wu personally came to the teahouse entrance to welcome the distinguished guests, chatting and laughing with them as he led them inside. One of the guests suddenly stopped, and the others followed suit, looking at him with suspicion.
“President Chen?” Manager Wu called out in confusion.
President Chen raised his hand to stop Manager Wu from speaking, carefully discerning the direction from which the sound came. His hearing was remarkably good; he could often hear sounds from a great distance, so he was certain that the faint, melodious music he was hearing was not a hallucination.
President Chen didn’t speak but suddenly walked towards the direction from which the sound came.
The others exchanged puzzled glances and quickly followed. Tonight, Mr. Chen was the star of the show; they had gone to great lengths to invite him, so naturally, wherever he went, they followed.
“Mr. Chen… Fufeng Courtyard, this way… where are you…?” Manager Wu hadn’t finished speaking when the distinguished guests had already left, so he could only hurry after them.
The music grew clearer, and Mr. Chen quickened his pace.
Hearing the music, the others understood why Mr. Chen insisted on coming this way; he was a renowned music enthusiast with an excellent ear.
To avoid disturbing others, they quietly entered and sat down at an empty table.
Manager Wu quickly arranged for tea to be served and then stood behind them, preparing to lead them to a prepared private room after they finished listening.
These were all big bosses, with Mr. Chen being the oldest, nearly fifty. While the others weren’t much younger, their backgrounds and the size of their businesses paled in comparison to Mr. Chen’s. So, the group of people worked together to invite President Chen, hoping to curry favor with him.
They listened to the music from the latter half onwards, and the melodious and continuous strains still delighted them. These were all true connoisseurs of the zither; before entering, they had assumed the player was a high-level musician, and high-level musicians were generally quite old.
Seeing Tao Yuan’s fair and youthful face, they were surprised and couldn’t help but admire his skill— it was truly rare to find someone so young with such talent.
Manager Wu was also quite surprised, wondering when Du Qingyu’s zither skills had improved so dramatically. He also speculated that Tao Yuan might have been concealing his true skill level, since he couldn’t play again after tonight, and thus revealed his true abilities.
After the piece ended, Tao Yuan withdrew his hands, sat quietly for a few seconds, and then rose and left through the door behind the screen.
The author has something to say:
Readers who have read the final chapter of the previous story should know a little about the dynamics between the top and bottom characters. However, some readers haven’t read my previous quick transmigration stories and may not know the typical plot. To avoid confusion, I’ll spoil some details that might only be explained in the extra chapters.
The peach blossom branch in the system is part of the protagonist’s original body, while the various powerful abilities within the system come from the ML’s divine power (to put it simply, the system is the ML’s divine power; note, the system is not the ML, but his divine power).
Each time the protagonist transmigrates, it’s not that he’s searching for the ML in different worlds, but rather a wisp of the ML’s soul constantly follows him to different worlds (so the ML transmigrates at the same time as the protagonist; he doesn’t arrive in any world before the protagonist).
The ML’s divine power is used to protect the protagonist, so unlike the protagonist, he doesn’t have a system to store memories.
When the ML transmigrates, he only has the original owner’s memories. It takes time, and with the protagonist’s guidance, for him to erase the original owner’s thoughts and allow his own thoughts to take over.
This is why the protagonist’s primary task is to conquer the ML. The protagonist and ML fall in love because they were originally lovers, but for some reason, they lack the memories of their past relationship.
I’ve explained it so clearly, if you still don’t understand, then I can’t help you anymore. (shrugs)
