Yu Linlang shook her head and answered truthfully, “I don’t know.”

She lowered her eyes and said calmly, “But judging from the wounds on the deceased’s neck, there were more than six perpetrators.”

“Based on the degree of rigor mortis in the deceased’s body, the time of death was no more than four hours ago.”

“So, Miss, you mean that this servant died at dawn today?” Ye Wuchen looked at Yu Linlang coldly, “There are indeed many servants in the manor who get up to work at dawn. But precisely because of this, there are also people cleaning and tidying up the garden. How could no one have seen the murder?”

“Moreover, according to you, it was a group of people who killed him together? What grudge or hatred could lead to such a thing?”

“Your Highness may not believe it, but the autopsy results are as described. The physical characteristics of the body and the death analysis cannot be faked. The living can lie and deceive, but the dead are the most honest. He lay there obediently and could not move. Your Highness can also call more coroners to re-examine him.” Yu Linlang’s voice was calm, showing neither anger at being questioned nor embarrassment or disappointment.

Throughout, her expression remained calm, showing no sign of panic or embarrassment, as if she were merely observing from the sidelines, indifferent to everything.

This composed and unhurried demeanor drew attention. Just as Governor Yu was frequently wiping away sweat, Prince Mu spoke up, “Since these are not related to the same case, why not have the old prince investigate within the manor? The bodies should be transported back to the mortuary first to prevent further trouble.”

His voice was deep and gentle, like a clear spring, instantly calming everyone present.

The old Liang Wang, his face grim, nodded in agreement, “Exactly. It’s thanks to the prince and Lord Lu’s efforts today; otherwise, I would still be kept in the dark by some people in the manor.”

Multiple people acting at dawn— it must be servants from the manor!

He was going to expose these audacious rats and see who dared to defy him!

Ye Wuchen glanced at Yu Linlang, then turned to Liang Wang and said, “Grandfather, I will investigate this matter. I will give you an answer within two days.”

“Good!” Old Liang Wang nodded in satisfaction.

Then everyone took their leave of Liang Wang’s residence.

Governor Yu, leading his daughter behind the prince and others, couldn’t help but mutter a complaint to his daughter, “You were really too bold just now. How could you stare at the young prince so brazenly and even talk back to him?”

“I was just stating the facts,” Yu Linlang said calmly, “The previous criminals who committed crimes by force didn’t need to strangle, press, drag, or move the crime scene. A single palm strike would have sufficed; there was no need for such elaborate methods.”

“Those criminals committed crimes for a kind of artistic appreciation. Watching the skin tear open, the flesh flying, and peeling off an entire belly, that’s aesthetic appeal. But this servant’s belly was cut open crookedly and haphazardly. It’s obvious that it wasn’t done by the same people at the same time. Moreover, whether their hands trembled or not, the precision and force of their knife use, can all be examined. It’s clearly not the work of the same person…”

Yu Shoudao was stunned for a long time, then, as if having a physiological reaction, he vomited and quickly staggered to the side, leaning against a tree to vomit.

The servant leading the way was completely bewildered.

Prince Mu and Lord Lu turned around and couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Why are you teasing your father like this?”

“I’m just telling the truth.” Yu Linlang remained where she was, her gaze sweeping over the vomiting Governor Yu, who was leaning against a tree.

What a weakling!

Just listening to her analyze the case, and he’s already vomiting uncontrollably. What good is someone like that?

Mu Zhao suppressed a smile. “Then let Governor Yu vomit here for a while. We’ll go out first.”

Yu Linlang nodded. She didn’t want to stay in the Liang Wang’s mansion any longer, so she immediately left Yu Shoudao behind and followed.

Yu Shoudao had been vomiting for quite some time, and his face was still somewhat pale when he climbed into the carriage.

He could now understand why his wife had fainted from anger.

Really, talking to this child, one had to be mentally prepared at all times to avoid getting dizzy from anger.

Meanwhile, Lu Qian couldn’t help but laugh as soon as he got into the carriage. “She was so rude just now. That Yu Shoudao is truly an eye-opener…”

Mu Zhao nodded with a smile. “His daughter is so capable, how come he can’t learn even a fraction of her abilities?”

Lu Qian unfolded the scroll in her hand. “Should we seal off the city tomorrow to investigate?”

“We’ll seal it off tonight.” Mu Zhao’s joking expression vanished, and his brows furrowed. “The situation outside the city is not to be underestimated. We need to prepare as soon as possible.”

“Huaizhi, the problem now isn’t the money, it’s that there isn’t enough rice and grain available in the market. With the number of disaster victims increasing day by day, are you really going to have to constantly pay for medical expenses out of your own pocket?”

“I’m not constantly paying out of pocket. The Ministry of Revenue allocated not only rice and grain but also three thousand taels of silver.” Mu Zhao said softly. “But as you said, the problem now isn’t the money. It’s that there isn’t enough rice and grain available in the market, and there aren’t enough medicines for the patients either. Once the illness becomes an epidemic, the situation will get out of control.”

“When the price of rice and medicine rises again, even three thousand taels of silver won’t be enough.”

“How about we gather the wealthy households in the city again to think of a solution?”

Mu Zhao lowered his eyes. “Thinking of another solution would be a bit like forcing people to donate. There’s no need for that for now, unless there’s absolutely no other way.”

Mu Zhao didn’t want to use his power to oppress people, and he really didn’t have that much energy to deal with too many people.

Lu Qian sighed softly, “How’s the investigation going on the incense sent by the Liang Wang’s Mansion?”

“That stuff is extremely rare on the market, and it’s said that it used to only circulate in the southwest. But do you know how much it’s worth?”

“How much?” Lu Qian’s eyes were filled with doubt.

“Ten taels of gold for just one small box. Considering the price, with the current soaring rice prices, it’s indeed almost the same price as one hundred shi of rice.”

Lu Qian took a deep breath, “Ten taels of gold for one small box of incense, and the brocade box sent by the Liang Wang’s Mansion?”

“I reckon it should be a large box, worth a hundred taels of gold.”

Lord Lu’s eyes widened slightly, “Such a grand gesture?”

Mu Zhao curled his lips and sneered, “What do you think the Liang Wang wants me to do?”

The carriage suddenly stopped, and the street ahead immediately became noisy.

The carriage of the Yu family, following closely behind Prince Mu’s, also came to an abrupt stop. The coachman tightened the reins, looking ahead with suspicion.

“What’s going on?” Governor Yu called out, lifting the curtain.

He saw Chen Buyu and Wei Ling standing outside the prince’s carriage, talking to them, before turning and walking towards him.

A bad premonition immediately flashed through Governor Yu’s heart, and he peeked out, his heart pounding. “Lord Chen, Lord Wei, what are you two doing here?”

“Lord Yu, don’t rest, come down quickly and see, we’ve found that Granny Niu.”

Governor Yu’s heart skipped a beat.

Wei Ling tilted her head to look into the Yu family carriage, smiled at the silent Yu Linlang, “Miss Yu, we’ve got work to do, come down with us.”

Governor Yu’s face fell instantly.
