Ying Qiao escorted the people to their apartment building and watched them go upstairs before leaving with Jiu Ding.

Jiang Lan was in an exceptionally good mood, and the smile on his face hadn’t faded even when he took out his keys to open the door— until he pushed open the door and saw his eldest brother and fourth brother sitting in the living room.

Bi Xi and Bi’an each occupied one side of the sofa. Bi Xi was typing away at the computer screen, while Bi’an leaned back on the sofa, holding a book in one hand and a pen in the other, seemingly taking notes and highlighting important points.

Upon hearing the door open, the two stopped what they were doing and looked up at Jiang Lan simultaneously.

That look in their eyes was as if they had been waiting for him on purpose.

Jiang Lan paused for a moment, quickly recalling that he shouldn’t have done anything to upset his eldest brother recently, before continuing into the house, greeting them with a smile: “Eldest brother, fourth brother.”

The kids followed him in, looking left and right, after sensing that something was off, they quite disloyally, quickly slipped back to their bedroom.

In the blink of an eye, only Jiang Lan was left.

Jiang Lan: …

He dawdled as he changed his shoes and came in, saying, “I’ve been out all day, I’m going to take a shower first.” He then headed towards the bathroom.

“Sit with us for a while.” Seeing this, Bi Xi finally spoke up and stopped him, his expression still gentle: “Your fourth brother and I have something we want to ask you.”

“???”

No way, that expression of yours clearly means you want to interrogate me!

Jiang Lan’s eyes darted around, but he still sat down on the empty single sofa, his face full of vigilance as he first distanced himself from the situation: “What is it? Let me make it clear, I’ve been very busy lately and haven’t done anything!”

Just working hard to earn money and dating in a down-to-earth manner.

He was so regular and stable that he simply didn’t have time to do anything bad.

Bi’an was amused by his expression and asked with a smile, “It’s not something that happened recently. You’re not hiding anything from me and my older brother, are you?”

“???”

Things being kept secret? There were plenty.

With such a grand feast, how could he not have some little secrets he couldn’t tell his brothers?

So Jiang Lan opened his eyes wide innocently: “No, right? I tell my older brother everything.” He paused, then added, “If I didn’t tell him, it’s probably because I forgot to.”

Bi’an gave a meaningful “Oh,” and said, “Then maybe you just forgot to mention it.”

“…”

Jiang Lan was getting impatient. “Tell me what it is!”

He glanced at his smiling fourth brother and then at his silent eldest brother, and had no choice but to bite the bullet and say, “Maybe I forgot? How about you give me a hint?”

Seeing his pitiful state, Bi Xi finally spoke up: “What’s the story behind your blind date with Ying Long? Is it real or just a rumor?”

“!!!”

Jiang Lan opened his mouth wide, completely dumbfounded.

He really forgot about it. How did his eldest and fourth brothers find out?

“…It’s true.” Jiang Lan’s eyes darted around, feeling very guilty.

Bi Xi tapped the table, his gaze fixed on him: “Tell me the reason.”

“If Ying Long set a trap for you, don’t cover for him,” Bi’an added.

Jiang Lan: emmmm

He wanted to tell the truth, but he was afraid his elder brother would think he was making excuses for Ying Qiao.

But after thinking it over, he wasn’t confident he could fool his eldest brother, so he had no choice but to confess everything dejectedly: “Hu Can told me that as long as I agreed to go on the blind date and set a good example for the single demon clan members, I would receive a subsidy of 20,000 yuan regardless of whether it worked out or not. I thought it was just a formality… so I agreed.” He glanced furtively at his eldest and fourth brothers, feeling even more guilty: “Hu Can didn’t say that the blind date was with Ying Long.”

Looking back now, Hu Can probably didn’t expect that he wouldn’t even recognize Ying Qiao… After all, it seems that there isn’t a single demon in the Demon Management Bureau who doesn’t know Ying Qiao.

Bi Xi & Bi’an: …………

“Going on a blind date for a 20,000 yuan subsidy?” Bi’an doubted that he had misheard, raising his voice three octaves, his face full of “I didn’t hear wrong, did I?”

His expression was one of utter disbelief, like a brother who had raised his younger brother with great care and hardship suddenly discovering that the brother he had worked so hard to raise was actually an idiot.

Why would someone go on a blind date for 20,000 yuan?

Bi’an looked on with suspicion, extremely unwilling to believe that his younger brother was actually stupid: “You’re not trying to excuse Ying Gou, are you?”

Considering that he usually gave his younger brother a seven-figure allowance, it was outrageous that he would go on a blind date for a 20,000 yuan subsidy.

“Why didn’t you tell your family you had no money?” Bi Xi remained relatively calm, but the twitching corners of his mouth betrayed his unease.

Is it not just a rebellious phase, trying to prove that he can support himself on his own…

Besides, blind dates are a good thing; he would still be single if he hadn’t gone on them.

Jiang Lan stammered, “I didn’t want to ask my family for money so soon. Besides, it was just a formality.” As for the fact that the two of them actually got together, that was purely accidental. In the words of the matchmaker, it was called a predestined marriage.

Bi’an’s expression was indescribable.

Bi Xi opened his mouth as if to speak, but after thinking for a moment, he said nothing. In the end, he only said, “Next time you need money, tell your family. Don’t bear it all by yourself.”

Look at what your child is doing when he’s out alone.

Bi Xi shook his head inwardly.

Jiang Lan also felt a little ashamed and nodded very honestly upon hearing this: “Yes, yes, yes, there won’t be a next time!”

After all, he’s rich now! Even if he weren’t, his boyfriend’s treasure trove is overflowing with sparkling gems, so there shouldn’t be a next time.

The three-way trial ended hastily, and Bi Xi put away his notebook and went back to his hotel to rest.

Bi’an looked at Jiang Lan, shook his head, sighed, and took the book to the balcony with a particularly weary expression.

He initially thought Ying Gou had set a trap, but it turned out his younger brother was just stupid.

I feel so powerless.

No wonder he ran away with Ying Gou as soon as he was tricked.

Oh well.

Jiang Lan: …

He frantically rubbed his face, feeling that all the face he had worked so hard to build up had been lost in one go. From now on, his older brothers would probably look at him like he was a stupid younger brother.

He, a reliable and steady beast, was about to be relegated to the same family status as the little Suan Ni.

Just thinking about it made him feel suffocated.

Jiang Lan felt he needed to take a shower to calm down.

Turning his head, he saw the second bedroom door slightly ajar, with three heads squeezed behind it from top to bottom, the bottom being the fluffy, chubby face of Suan Ni. Jiang Lan turned and headed towards the second bedroom, while Jiang Chi and Jiao Tu quickly slipped away. When he opened the door, only Suan Ni was still clinging to the door, peeking out stupidly.

Jiang Lan: …

That’s so silly.

He bent down and picked up Suan Ni, poking its soft belly with his finger: “When adults are talking, little brats are not allowed to eavesdrop.”

Suan Ni curled its tail to protect its belly: “I didn’t.” Its eyes darted left and right, and after discovering that Jiao Tu and Jiang Chi were pretending to read in the bedroom, it stammered an excuse: “I just wanted to see if you were finished talking, I’m hungry!”

Jiang Lan chuckled and poked his forehead with her fingertip: “You need to lose weight. You can’t eat late-night snacks.”

After saying that, he put him down, shook his head, and sighed.

He froze after he finished, suddenly realizing that his head-shaking and sighing gesture towards Suan Ni was so similar to how his fourth brother looked at him.

Jiang Lan: …

He refused to acknowledge the fact and went to take a bath with a distressed expression.
