Luo Mi looked Reinhardt up and down strangely: “What exactly are you?”

“How rude!” Reinhardt complained deliberately. “I am His Highness’s knight, not some nobody.”

Anos curved his lips into a smile and said, “Lone Shadow.”

Luo Mi’s eyes widened again: “Lord Lone Shadow?”

The most mysterious, completely missing demon lord?

Reinhardt stretched his neck— his figure suddenly split apart, and another blurry, semi-transparent phantom floated out from his body, nodded at Anos, and then shrank back into Reinhardt’s body.

Reinhardt explained, “Little Shadow is a little afraid of you, so let me explain… Well, as you probably already know, after I left home, I joined the alchemy school in an attempt to resurrect my mother.”

Luo Mi nodded, adding in his mind: It’s just like the plot of a certain anime.

“When I tried to use alchemy, I failed. I couldn’t find my mother’s soul, but I summoned a transparent shadow. That shadow entered my body and has been in a symbiotic relationship with me ever since.” Reinhardt pointed to himself. “That’s what you just saw.”

He summoned the Lone Shadow Lord directly? What incredible luck… Luo Mi clicked his tongue twice: “No wonder the Lone Shadow Lord disappeared later.”

Reinhardt chuckled, “Although he is a demon lord, Little Shadow is not as… well, as intelligent as the other lords. He’s more like a charlatan— though it’s strange for a knight of the Church to say that. But I can’t get rid of him, so I have to coexist with him, and I’ve gotten used to it by now.”

Luo Mi stroked his chin: “The Lone Shadow Lord was actually able to evade the Holy See’s detection? And even allowed you to break through the barrier of the Real Dream to enter?”

Is this still the lowest-level phantom demon? Aren’t phantoms supposed to be a kind of natural spirit with no special abilities?

Reinhardt shrugged: “He has many strange abilities, but he doesn’t know how he achieves them; he can do them if he wants to.”

Anos stared at Reinhardt for a long time, then looked at the God’s Wisdom: “What is the origin of Lone Shadow?”

It’s easy to see that this was also an arrangement of God’s Wisdom.

The God’s Wisdom indeed provided an explanation: “The Phantom race is a supernatural phenomenon that appeared all over the world after we killed that monster. The God believes that it evolved from the residual power of the monster and combined with the origin of the world. In essence, it is similar to natural phenomena such as rainbows.”

“The Lone Shadow Lord is special; he is essentially a fragment of that monster from back then.”

Luo Mi looked at Reinhardt in shock: “Then aren’t you in great danger?”

No wonder it feared Anos, who was a remnant of a god… after all, the original body died at the hands of the god.

Reinhardt waved his hand dismissively: “It’s alright.”

The God’s Wisdom laughed: “It’s just a fragment. Just like you, after the monster died, its fragments were no longer the same. After they gained their own lives, they became new individuals.”

Reinhardt smiled and said, “Little Shadow just asked me to relay a sentence to show his position: Although he doesn’t realize it, it seems quite interesting that he, who was a destroyer of the world in the past, is now trying to protect it.”

Luo Mi and Anos exchanged a glance, then looked at Reinhardt, and then laughed together.

After laughing, Luo Mi couldn’t help but mutter, “Is this a world where everyone’s face is a slice of paper?”

The God’s Wisdom looked at the three energetic young men with a smile, and finally urged them, “You should go now, there are still many things waiting for you to do.”

Luo Mi was taken aback, realizing the unspoken meaning in God’s Wisdom’s words: “You’re not coming with us?”

The God’s Wisdom swayed the ball of light from side to side and calmly said, “I will disappear with him.”

Luo Mi was stunned.

“It’s best not to show that expression.” God’s Wisdom was surprisingly calm. “I made up my mind from the beginning. He never gave up on me, so of course I won’t give up on him. If I can bring him back, that would be best; if not, I’ll disappear with him. The system and the host are interdependent, aren’t they?”

Luo Mi pinched the corner of her mouth and whispered, “You’re my system too?”

“I don’t want to be a third wheel.” The God’s Wisdom floated back a little and urged again, “Let’s go, or the passage will close.”

Luo Mi pursed his lips, his joy at his success fading considerably.

But he still bowed to the God’s Wisdom, and calmly finished saying his farewell: “I will not forget you.”

Anos also silently bowed to God’s Wisdom before leading Luo Mi toward the passage.

Reinhardt lagged behind, waved to God’s Wisdom, and smiled, “Little Shadow asked me to say goodbye and thank you on his behalf.”

The God’s Wisdom smiled and nodded, watching them walk out of this past shrouded in pure white shadows, a past filled with sin and atonement.

The other side of the passage, though still dark because the sun had disappeared, was a reality more radiant and vibrant than any holy light.

They turned their backs to the light and walked toward a hopeful future.

….

Once the three of them had left the pure white space, the passage was sealed again, and everything returned to eternal silence.

The ball of light floated to the statue left behind after the god’s death, and silently looked at the statue without saying a word.

After an unknown amount of time, the ball of light slowly dissipated, and the statue of the god gradually crumbled, melted, and sublimated, as if it had been weathered.

No trace was left.

….

Standing outside the Wall of Sighs, Luo Mi looked back at the old holy city of Ionian, which was full of ruins.

Because the battles all took place in a real dream, reality was unaffected and remained in the deep, silent darkness that followed the disappearance of the sun.

Everything fell into slumber, even the wind quieted down, and the whole world was silent.

Reinhardt stretched his shoulders, glanced at Luo Mi and Anos, and waved his hand tactfully: “I need to pee, you guys talk first.”

He quickened his pace and soon turned to the outside of the city wall.

Luo Mi looked at Anos.

Even in the darkness, Anos still emitted a faint light.

Anos looked at him with a smile and reached out to stroke Luo Mi’s brow.

Luo Mi felt a warmth between his brows, his vision suddenly opened up, and the familiar power returned to his body.

“The Ark’s permissions, since you’re used to the power of the Seraphs, will be shared with you in the Seraph’s way.” Anos gently patted Luo Mi’s head, his voice soft. “You can do whatever you want.”

Luo Mi felt a pang of unease: “What if I want to leave?”

Anos lowered his eyes slightly, his tone remaining calm: “I won’t stop you.”

Luo Mi looked up at Anos, remained silent for a long time, and then said, “Anos, are you afraid?”

Anos raised his eyes, looked at Luo Mi quietly for a while, and made no attempt to hide his feelings: “Yes.”

“Because of God’s example, fearing that you might become something even more terrifying than a monster, you try your best to hide your desires?” Luo Mi’s eyes, which had turned orange-red again, lit up slightly, as if a flame was burning within them. “You’d rather watch what you want leave than let yourself go too far? Your Highness, Angel of the God’s Heart?”

“You chose the appearance of the Holy Son because it represents self-discipline and asceticism, and it represents the path you have chosen for yourself, isn’t it?”

A rare look of bewilderment crossed Anos’s face— this supreme being who had inherited the power of God acted like a bewildered child, whispering, “Shouldn’t it be like this?”

Knowing that he was a soul split from God, and knowing the mistakes his original self had made due to excessive obsession, Anos constantly bound himself with restraints and chains in his mind to avoid harming the people he loved and the world through indulgence.

He was as afraid of becoming God as he hated God.

Luo Mi reached out and gently cupped Anos’s face, his voice slowly lowering: “The God’s Wisdom accompanied God until their death. It’s clear that there are always some emotions that can overcome what you fear.”

Anos reached out and placed his hand on Luo Mi’s palm: “They did not have a good ending.”

Luo Mi shook his head: “Perhaps not for God, but I don’t think it’s bad for the God’s Wisdom either— Anos, I don’t want to become him, and I know you don’t want to become God either, but having witnessed the end of ‘us,’ don’t you have confidence that we can surpass them?”

Anos’s azure eyes were fixed on Luo Mi, and he slowly came to understand her meaning. A hint of tenderness finally appeared on his usually restrained face: “I will try my best, but I will not tie you to my side…”

Before he could finish speaking, Luo Mi interrupted him: “I don’t want to hear that— I won’t interfere with which path you choose, but what I want is not an ascetic, but the real, complete you. You should also trust me, trust that I can accept your wishes, trust that even if you go down the wrong path, I can pull you back!”

Anos stared blankly at Luo Mi.

Luo Mi looked at him as well, his voice already trembling slightly, but more resolute than before: “Anos, tell me, what do you want?”

Anos’s eyes trembled slightly. He slowly opened his lips, hesitated for a long time, but finally could not resist the desire in his heart: “I think… you should stay.”

Luo Mi laughed, tears welling in his eyes as he smiled: “Okay.”

Anos gripped his hand tightly, as if to confirm whether he was dreaming, to confirm whether he could truly and clearly express his desires, and that his existence would not bring destruction and disaster.

When Luo Mi gripped his hand just as tightly, giving him a real sense of reality, Anos whimpered, closed his eyes, and tears streamed down his cheeks.

After a long while, Anos finally let go of his hand as if waking from a dream, a satisfied smile slowly spreading across his lips as he wiped away his tears: “Thank you for coming into my life, Luo Mi.”

Luo Mi smiled slightly and turned to look at the world that was still sleeping in darkness: “It should be dawn.”

They also wanted to rebuild the whole world.

Anos put his arm around Luo Mi’s shoulder and looked east with him, his gaze distant and his tone more relaxed: “According to the first chapter of the Bible, when God came to the dark earth, perhaps we should say…”

“Let there be light.”

A fiery sun gently leaped from the horizon, casting a golden-red band of light on the clouds. The dazzling yet gentle sunlight washed away the darkness of night, bringing back the azure blue of angelic eyes and painting the earth with intricate and magnificent colors.

The sheep and cows in the fence twitched their ears, the pigeons roosting in the church square stretched their wings, and the calls of deer, insects, and birds in the wild gradually rose up.

Daylight broke then.
