As the car started moving, Wei Xi turned around and called out, “Tuan Tuanyi!”

The eldest apprentice hadn’t come up yet.

Shuo Zong silently closed the car window, blocking his view, and calmly said, “There’s no room in the car. They’ll take a taxi and come over themselves.”

Upon hearing this, the driver in front couldn’t help but glance in the rearview mirror, wanting to say that there was actually an empty seat in the front passenger seat.

But Shuo Zong ignored this. After saying this, he glanced at his phone, which was already flooded with messages from Xia Shouren. He knew they were all insults. He unlocked his phone, scrolled through the messages, and, not seeing any transfer details, immediately muted it and tossed it aside.

Wei Xi was no longer worried when he heard that his eldest disciple could take a taxi by himself. He glanced sideways and saw Shuo Zong resting his head on one arm and quietly looking at him.

Their eyes met, and Wei Xi was slightly taken aback. He felt that the other person’s silent demeanor was unusually familiar; his second apprentice seemed to be like this when he wasn’t speaking. “How come you…”

As soon as he opened his mouth, he heard the driver’s voice from the front: “Mr. Shuo, where are we going now?”

Shuo Zong stared at Wei Xi and asked, “What were you trying to say?”

Wei Xi exclaimed “Ah!” and frowned in thought, “I can’t remember.”

Shuo Zong was nearly furious. With a dark face, he said to the driver, “Go to the company. And don’t say a word.”

The driver was initially curious about who the stranger who got on the bus with him was, but when he noticed that his boss seemed to be in a bad mood, he immediately shut up. He wondered to himself, “Wasn’t he fine when he got on the bus? Why is he suddenly angry?”

A deathly silence fell over the car. Wei Xi, feeling a bit bored, took out his phone and sent a WeChat message to his second apprentice: “I’m back in Beijing.”

The phone that Shuo Zong had just tossed near him lit up immediately. Wei Xi glanced at it subconsciously and saw it was a WeChat message notification. He realized that Shuo Zong had also noticed it but hadn’t made a move.

Wei Xi hadn’t received a reply from his second apprentice and was playing around with the screen locking and unlocking when he saw this, so he reminded him, “Someone sent you a message.”

Shuo Zong looked at him, seemed to hesitate for a moment, but finally asked, “Who sent it?”

While he was waiting, Wei Xi frowned and dialed the number in his direction: “How should I know? Can’t you see for yourself?”

He had never been a curious person and had no interest in the news of unrelated people.

Shuo Zong: “…………”

Wei Xi noticed that Shuo Zong’s breathing seemed to have become heavier, as if he had suffered some very heavy blow.

Unfortunately, he didn’t care at all.

….

Wei Xi had initially assumed the company the other party was heading to was his own sect, but after the car stopped, he realized that the “company” the other party mentioned seemed to have nothing to do with him. In the heart of the bustling CBD during rush hour, amidst towering office buildings, Wei Xi glanced at the unfamiliar yet enormous company name outside the car window and said rather reluctantly, “Que’er hasn’t replied to my message; he’s probably already in the capital. I need to go back.”

Shuo Zong, who was about to get off the car, gave him a disgruntled look: “Don’t worry, your apprentice is unlikely to be home. He probably didn’t reply to the message because he was so angry with you.”

Wei Xi: “?”

Shuo Zong got out of the car, took a couple of deep breaths, and reached in to pull him up: “Get out and come with me to register Qinglong’s information.”

He seemed a little angry, but his grip wasn’t strong. After Wei Xi got out of the car, he lost his balance and was helped up. The other man’s strong yang energy covered him with this close movement, followed by the intense heat of his back touching him.

The other person’s jawline was taut, their Adam’s apple protruding sharply. They glanced down at him, their gaze calm and unwavering, the shadow cast by their eyelashes shifting slightly.

Wei Xi was momentarily dazed, feeling as if he had seen familiar scenes in fragments of his memory, but he didn’t know in what context.

The car door slammed shut, followed by Xia Shouren’s frustrated outburst: “You beast, give me back all the money I gave you before!”

The gaze that had met his own quietly turned away, and Wei Xi heard the person in front of him say to Xia Shouren, who was rushing towards him, without taking it seriously: “I think you want to die.”

Xia Shouren, remembering his friend’s trigger points, immediately chickened out. He stood there, feeling frustrated for a long time, his gaze sometimes sweeping over Wei Xi and sometimes over his own buddy. After a while, he could only angrily say, “Chong Ming, you pay for the ride!”

Chong Ming: “…Why? Aren’t you the leader?”

Tears welled up in Xia Shouren’s eyes: “I emptied my savings to get him to go to Ruhai City with me this time.”

He felt that he was probably the worst-performing leader in the entire company, and also the worst-performing mythical beast in the world, without exception.

Chong Ming sighed and paid the money. She hesitated for a moment, but finally couldn’t help but say, “Actually, I’ve always wanted to know why there’s such a big difference in strength between you, Mr. Xia, and Mr. Shuo Zong, who are both ancient mythical beasts born in the primordial era.”

Xia Shouren’s hair nearly stood on end when he heard this: “What difference is there? There’s no difference in strength between him and me, okay? Isn’t the reason we’re where we are today because people in modern society are too materialistic and mercenary? People these days are obsessed with money. Which boss doesn’t have a statue of him in their home? Some people even have to pour the first cup of tea for him. Look at me, who’s worshipping me? Don’t talk about me, look at yourself. You’re a divine bird, after all. Among all those arrogant and pretentious guys in our company from ancient times, who receives as much worship as him?”

Upon hearing this, Chong Ming’s suspicions vanished, and she even felt an urge to cry: “What you said makes so much sense! In this new era of socialism, no one can beat Mr. Shuo Zong!”
