The governor was speechless.

But recalling the scene of her killing the assassin with the green bamboo, he found himself unable to utter a word, only stealing glances at the glistening green bamboo on her head.

The material, resembling jade but not quite, was slender and long, its tip not particularly sharp, yet it had instantly killed the assassin, demonstrating its exceptional sharpness.

Now, looking at the green bamboo, its emerald sheen revealed no trace of blood.

Even from a distance, it seemed like an extremely sharp weapon.

The governor, thinking of the old prince who had died in the palace, felt increasingly depressed.

Meanwhile, in the carriage, Mu Zhao, exhausted from a night’s journey, also felt quite fatigued.

“Huaizhi, those assassins from Xichuan suddenly launched their attack, so they must have been lying in wait for more than just a day or two. The timing they chose today was quite unexpected; it’s truly impossible to guard against them.”

Mu Zhao rubbed his forehead, recalling the assassins’ open and ruthless actions, and couldn’t help but sigh. “There’s no rush to deal with the Xichuan assassins.”

Anyway, he was used to being assassinated multiple times a year…

“The most important thing now is the death of this old prince. We need to write a memorial to report to His Majesty as soon as possible.” Lu Qian couldn’t help but sigh a couple of times. “You don’t need to worry about this matter; I’ll write the memorial. It’s getting late; go back to the manor and rest immediately. We need to go out of the city to visit the refugees early tomorrow morning.”

Mu Zhao nodded, and after returning to his room, taking a bath, and sitting down, it was already late at night.

Chang Qing entered with a stern face, and without a word, knelt down before him with a thud. “Your Highness, today’s events were due to our dereliction of duty. We failed to detect the assassin’s presence sooner, causing you to be frightened.”

Mu Zhao sighed helplessly, “I’m not some fragile porcelain doll. If you didn’t notice, I didn’t notice either. What’s there to say? The assassin’s movements are stealthy and elusive; they haven’t appeared for the past six months. It’s normal to lower your guard.”

Chang Qing, however, was filled with self-reproach. “Did Your Highness use any internal energy? Physician Fang said that Your Highness should not recklessly use internal energy, otherwise it will only worsen your internal injuries.”

“No.” At this point, Mu Zhao’s expression paused slightly.

Chang Qing looked at him suspiciously, wondering if the young master was lying to him.

Prince Mu met the man’s evasive gaze and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Really not! Speaking of which, I have to thank Miss Yu for her help.”

If Miss Yu hadn’t just happened to touch his pulse with her tug and pull, unknowingly neutralizing that trace of internal energy, things might have been very different.

That’s why doctors are so skilled; even if they’re completely powerless, they can strike a fatal spot with a single move.

Chang Qing breathed a sigh of relief.

“The young master is going out of the city tomorrow morning to check on the patients, so I should be extra careful. I’ve already spoken with Physician Fang, and he’ll be going out with the young master tomorrow.”

“No need for such trouble…” The young master glanced at his stern-faced subordinate and nodded helplessly. “Alright. What did the young master do all day?”

Chang Qing’s face showed a strange expression.

“The young master attended a bird gathering today, spending the whole day drinking tea and admiring birds with a group of wealthy idlers.”

Mu Zhao nodded and didn’t ask any more questions. After Chang Qing left, he went to bed, but as soon as he closed his eyes, that expressionless little face kept flashing through his mind.

He sat up, put his hand on his pulse, and after a long while, he muttered to himself, “This grip, can it so easily dissolve internal energy?”

….

Yu Linlang didn’t sleep well either.

After having breakfast early in the morning, she kept sighing.

Jiu Jin and Ba Liang went in and out twice, seeing her sitting at the table constantly kneading pills. She didn’t seem to be joking, but her worried expression and constant sighs were somewhat comical.

“Miss, are you planning to make poison pills to kill Governor Yu’s family?” Jiu Jin asked cautiously.

Yu Linlang sighed again, silently kneading the pills and ignoring everyone.

It wasn’t until after lunch that the two maids couldn’t hold back any longer and dragged chairs to sit beside her. “Miss, what’s wrong?”

“Sigh.” Yu Linlang sighed again. “This matter has nothing to do with me. What do you think, should I give it to him?”

She tossed small black pills into the bottle.

Seeing her deep in thought, Ba Liang suppressed a smile. “Are you facing some kind of difficult illness?”

“Yesterday, I accidentally felt his pulse, and just as I suspected, he’s barely breathing and won’t live much longer.”

The two maids nodded, waiting for her to continue.

However, they waited a long time without her saying a word.

“Miss, what do you think?”

“Sigh.” Yu Linlang sighed again, her face almost contorted in worry.

“If I don’t do anything, I feel he won’t survive this winter.”

“And if he does die, do you think Governor Yu can handle the city’s refugees?”

Jiu Jin and Ba Liang shook their head in unison. “The governor seems to be a rather incompetent person. He’s good at maintaining the status quo but has difficulty making breakthroughs, so there’s a reason why he’s been in this position for so long.”

“So what do you think?”

“What do we think? If you’re willing, Miss, please save him! After all, the young master’s illness is probably a rare and intractable disease, right?”

“Indeed, when I felt his pulse today, I found that he not only has serious internal injuries, but he’s also been poisoned by a strange poison.” Yu Linlang frowned as she said this. “I’ve only read about this poison briefly in ancient books, and I can’t understand why he was poisoned by it.”

“Then if… Miss, you make some medicinal pills for the young master?” Ba Liang asked softly.

“At least he’ll survive this winter.”

You say a proud and aloof little beauty, who seems alright, is just sitting here in Weizhou City, such that all this fuss and confusion, it seems a bit too pathetic.

Jiu Jin slammed her hand on the table, “Treat him.”

“Miss loves challenging difficult cases, isn’t this a perfect case of medicine delivered to your door? Treat him!”

Yu Linlang turned to look at them, “Do you think it’s feasible?”

Of course it’s feasible, if you don’t treat difficult cases, how can you sleep tonight…

“It’s feasible, absolutely feasible!” Jiu Jin took the medicine bottle from Yu Linlang’s hand, “I’ll take the medicine later.”

“Miss, you didn’t sleep well last night, you were worrying about this, it’s not because of this, is it?”

“How could that be.” Yu Linlang waved her hand in denial with a solemn expression, “I’m just annoyed by the governor, I don’t want to see him for the next two days.”

So annoying! He has to drag her along for everything.

“Miss~~” Just then, Mama Hu’s voice rang out from outside the door again.

Ba Liang’s expression changed, and she opened the door irritably. “Who is it again…”

Before she could utter the word “death,” Mama Hu approached with a beaming smile. “No, no, no, it’s the eldest young master returning from the academy, bringing back quite a bit of fabric. The old lady wants all the young ladies to go and choose some. Hurry up, young lady, you haven’t seen our eldest young master yet, have you?”

Oh, it’s Huo Shi’s eldest son who’s returned.
