After realizing that fighting would really get her hands slapped by her mother, Guoguo finally behaved herself. But she still wanted to go to kindergarten because she felt that the older children in her family were not her age and she couldn’t play with them, while she didn’t have any other children to make friends with.

Jiang Shining was naturally very happy, as this meant that Guoguo was willing to gradually accept the world.

The kindergarten they chose was located not far from the villa community. The villa community offered a full range of services, and the kindergarten was only open to residents. Both its security and exclusivity were superior to those of outside kindergartens.

“My company is finished with renovations and is currently training staff,” Jing Yuan said. “The first batch of people will be used by your two companies, which will give me peace of mind.”

“Okay, then we can replace my group of bodyguards with yours first.” Jiang Shining picked up some food. “I’ll also find a few celebrities I’m on good terms with and talk to them to help you advertise. That will make things easier.”

Jing Yuan nodded.

Listening to the two chatting, Chen Ruozhi suddenly sighed softly.

“Ruozhi, what’s wrong?” Jiang Shining looked at her.

Chen Ruozhi laughed again, “It’s nothing, I just woke up a little early today and feel a bit sleepy again.”

After dinner, everyone went to work, leaving only Chen Tanliang and Chen Ruozhi at home.

Chen Tanliang poured himself a glass of water and walked toward Chen Ruozhi’s bedroom. The door was open, and he saw her wandering around inside, holding her phone and doing something.

“What’s wrong?” Chen Tanliang asked.

Chen Ruozhi put down her phone, looked at Chen Tanliang, and sighed softly.

“I didn’t know Mom was here. I had already arranged to go to the university where that professor works on Christmas Day. What am I going to do now?”

Chen Ruozhi may look young now, but deep down she had the air of an old-fashioned scholar. She cherished her reputation and never broke her word. Especially in this kind of situation, even if she was indeed outstanding, the school had really made an exception for her, so how could she just back out? She couldn’t bring herself to do it; she had always felt indebted to the professor and was too embarrassed to make the call.

Chen Tanliang was silent for a moment before saying, “Then just go. Haven’t you always liked that school?”

Chen Ruozhi bit her lip.

She certainly liked that school, but…

Chen Tanliang noticed her hesitation and said, “Our mother will support you too.”

“No, I just feel that it’s not easy to reunite. If I want to study…” Chen Ruozhi said with a determined heart, “staying here and studying by myself is the same.”

Chen Tanliang still felt uneasy. He knew that Chen Ruozhi was also reluctant to leave, but she still had aspirations and longings for this world, unlike them. The fame and ideals he should have pursued had already been achieved in his previous life, and the peaceful era of this life was no longer suitable for them to continue pursuing what he wanted most.

But Chen Ruozhi, as a well-read person, can still maintain her enthusiasm for the new world and continue to pursue her favorite fields of culture and history. This is a good thing. Although it may seem that reading and doing research are the same everywhere, there is still a significant difference between doing it alone and doing it in a harmonious atmosphere with other people who share the same interests.

“If your mother finds out about this, she won’t let you drop out of school,” Chen Tanliang sighed softly. “Besides, a master’s degree is a short program, it only takes a few years to complete. We’ve waited for over twenty years, so a little more time won’t make a difference.”

Chen Ruozhi looked at him.

“If I go to school, you can’t come with me.”

“Impossible.” Chen Tanliang refused without even thinking.

“Neither of us siblings has to stay behind, right?”

Chen Tanliang didn’t speak; he lowered his eyelashes, his eyes somewhat dim.

“Our mother doesn’t need another son like me, so I’ll go and stay with you.”

Chen Ruozhi felt angry and annoyed just looking at him. Sometimes she really couldn’t understand how men thought. Her mother had other sons, but Chen Tanliang was also unique. Besides, the two of them represented Jiang Shining’s life. If they were both gone, Jiang Shining would definitely be sad.

Chen Ruozhi tried to explain these principles to him, but Chen Tanliang was like a block of wood. He wouldn’t listen to anything she said and insisted on going with her.

“Then I won’t go!” Chen Ruozhi said angrily.

Is this a case of a scholar encountering a soldier— no amount of reasoning can convince him? How come she can never persuade Chen Tanliang to change his mind even once?

Chen Ruozhi packed her things, feeling defeated, and stormed out of the villa. Only Chen Tanliang remained standing silently inside.

After leaving the house, Chen Ruozhi went to the provincial bookstore, which was extremely large and had a wide variety of books and categories. It had six floors and was as big as a shopping mall.

Feeling frustrated, she began to wonder if there was something wrong with her way of speaking, which was why she could never get along with Chen Tanliang. She simply walked over to the self-help bookshelf and picked up a few books on “How to Deal with People,” “The Charm of Speaking,” and “How to Communicate with Men.”

After flipping through a couple of pages, she felt that the people who wrote these books were extremely unreliable. How could you publish a book to teach people how to speak and still get things wrong, such basic elementary knowledge as sentences, words, and places? The logic was also flawed, and the scenarios provided were baffling.

Hmm, it seems like it would be perfect for Chen Tanliang to see.

Chen Ruozhi picked up a book and continued browsing. As she flipped through the pages, her mood gradually calmed down. She temporarily put her studies aside and focused on reading.

Then she thought, since we’re already here, I might as well bring a book for everyone in the family.

Hmm… I’ll bring Guoguo a fairy tale picture book. Also, some English books for kids, 300 Tang poems, and some children’s science books— those are also important. This children’s drawing book looks pretty good too.

Guoguo, who was happily playing in kindergarten, would never have imagined that Chen Ruozhi was planning to ‘torture’— cough cough— fill her childhood with all sorts of children’s books.

It was relatively easy to buy things for Jing Xuan. During the few days when Chen Tanliang and Jing Yuan were busy fighting, she and Chu Jingxuan had a peaceful time getting to know each other better.

Jing Xuan likes very elegant things, so I can bring him a calligraphy piece by a calligrapher from the Xth generation.

What should I bring for Chu Jingyuan…? He doesn’t seem like a scholar, but he is from ancient times after all… After thinking about it, he seems to be quite skilled, so I should bring something related to martial arts.

Chen Ruozhi carried a shopping basket from the bookstore and took the elevator to the sixth floor. This floor had some less common categories, including books and pictures on martial arts, swords, spears, and staffs.

Chen Ruozhi knew nothing about these things. She carefully looked through the books on the shelves, some of which had hand-drawn illustrations. She had some knowledge of drawing, so as she looked, she began to admire the illustrator’s skill; he was clearly an experienced painter who specialized in martial arts illustrations.

She didn’t understand these things, but she enjoyed reading them as martial arts novels. However, upon further reflection, she realized Chu Jingyuan was probably an expert in these areas, and buying a modern martial arts book for an ancient person felt like showing off her limited knowledge. So she put the book down. Luckily, there was a chess manual shop next door, so she simply grabbed one.
