When Gu Wuji regained consciousness, half a month had passed. It was clear how much his body had been drained by using the Ghost Control Technique to forcibly seal the ghost within him the previous day.

“System, what price did I pay?” Gu Wuji couldn’t help but ask.

The system replied, “[Player, you’re quite lucky. The price for forcibly using the Ghost Control Technique this time isn’t too bad. You just have a few debuffs that will last for several months. You can check them in the space.]”

“What? That doesn’t sound good.”

But Gu Wuji didn’t have time to go to the space right now. After being unconscious for so long, he needed to deal with some real-world matters.

He had been transferred to the presidential suite of a five-star hotel. Upon waking, he felt incredibly hungry. Austin and Cheng Jia immediately rushed to bring him food, even trying to feed him, though unsuccessfully.

Austin and Cheng Jia were particularly disappointed, but they were already overjoyed that Gu Wuji had woken up safely.

After Gu Wuji fell into a coma, Cheng Jia took him to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor couldn’t find anything wrong and was amazed at how energetic Gu Wuji was. Austin also couldn’t see anything wrong with Gu Wuji, so the two of them had no choice but to wait there.

Gu Wuji was eating breakfast by the French windows when he saw the man being escorted over.

The situation that day was quite chaotic, but after Gu Wuji fell unconscious, there wasn’t much left to deal with. The only change was that the previously haunted neighborhood and its surrounding area suddenly became incredibly quiet, as if even the air was fresher, leaving the few remaining residents bewildered, thinking that the recent environmental protection project was incredibly effective.

This man had only fainted; he wasn’t dead yet. He was, after all, a player, and originally thought he could take the opportunity to escape, but Austin, the vengeful ghost, was keeping a close eye on him.

Seeing Gu Wuji, his face still showed lingering fear, clearly indicating that he had experienced something extremely terrifying that day.

After all, it was because he was about to reveal the truth about what happened in the abandoned factory that the ghost inside Gu Wuji went out of control, leading to all the subsequent events. In short, both Austin and Cheng Jia disliked this man very much.

“Now you can tell me everything that happened before,” Gu Wuji asked. “What exactly happened back then?”

Gu Wuji had now completely suppressed that existence within him, although it was only temporary and would probably collapse soon, but at least now he could take the opportunity to investigate the truth.

The man might have wanted to struggle a bit, but after witnessing what had happened before and the fright he had suffered at Austin’s hands these past few days, he clearly realized that Gu Wuji was no ordinary guy. Preserving his life was the most important thing; revenge was out of the question.

He immediately told him everything that had happened before.

This man was indeed from the same neighborhood as Gu Wuji back then. He and his companions were captured and taken to that abandoned factory to be sacrificed by the people inside. But many of those thugs were actually locals hiding their identities; otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to do this so quietly.

One of them was the man’s older brother. He recognized his younger brother, and even as a fanatical believer, he wouldn’t sacrifice his own brother. So, he secretly communicated with his brother, planning to release him on the last day.

However, an unexpected event occurred during the sacrifice: the unexpected event was Gu Wuji.

Gu Wuji had been ostracized by the other children from the beginning. But strangely, unlike the other children, he wasn’t kidnapped; he came on his own, leading the other children to believe he was mentally challenged.

The man looked at Gu Wuji with a apprehensive expression as he spoke. Now, thinking about it, it seemed Gu Wuji might have deliberately gone there.

And soon, the thugs noticed Gu Wuji’s difference and considered him the most suitable and crucial sacrifice, treating him well.

On the day of the sacrifice, everyone was bewildered, but the man was secretly released by his brother. He originally intended to escape, but at the last moment, he suddenly sensed something and, as if possessed, went back to the place of the sacrifice.

Then, he witnessed the most terrifying scene of his life, one that even the dungeons he later entered as a player couldn’t compare to.

It was a child standing listlessly in the center of an altar, countless hideous ghosts surging from the black mist behind him, devouring the souls of the surrounding believers— a horrifying sight far beyond what a child could bear.

The man was terrified; he wanted to run, but his legs were weak, and he couldn’t escape.

Then, the man saw another figure within the black mist, gently stroking the child’s cheek, as if they were extremely intimate.
