Wei Xi still managed to sneak a bite when he wasn’t looking, but as soon as he bit the tip of the tail, his tongue started to go numb. He immediately realized that his apprentice was right, and no matter how tempting it was, he had no choice but to give up.

Perhaps due to losing his senses, the image of this enormous serpent turtle gradually became blurred after a while, eventually reverting to its original human form and collapsing into the pool of blood that had been ravaged by his struggles.

The scene was so chaotic that no one noticed Wei Xi stealing food. Wei Xi spat out the blood that was making his mouth numb. As he approached his fellow Daoists in the chaos, he discovered that they had already searched the dazed Zhang Pang and found the magic artifact containing Xu Xiaofeng’s soul.

He then remembered: “That’s right, we were here to rescue Fellow Daoist Xu!”

Kuang Zhiming: “…”

The other Taoist priests were also speechless.

Yes, they came to rescue Xu Xiaofeng, so why did they have to witness so many amazing historical events along the way…?

Everyone turned around and saw that the little fat boy’s white clothes were torn, and he was lying on the ground unconscious. He was probably a little cold, as he was curled up, and his buttocks were covered with a bunch of dog anesthetic needles.

The Taoist priests were somewhat devastated by the thought of his true form and the reason for his defeat and could only force themselves to look away: “Fellow Daoist Kuang, first check on your wife’s condition.”

Kuang Zhiming hurriedly nodded and began to perform a ritual to summon Xu Xiaofeng’s soul. After a long time, Xu Xiaofeng’s phantom image vaguely appeared before his eyes, but it was still hazy and indistinct.

The crowd grew anxious: “Her soul has been separated from her body for too long and imprisoned within the magical artifact; she’s probably in a daze by now. Master Kuang, quickly think of a way to wake her up!”

Seeing this, Kuang Zhiming gritted his teeth, stood up solemnly, and began to reach into his clothes.

The crowd became more cautious, thinking he was about to pull out some talisman or magical artifact, and some even stepped back to avoid being affected.

To everyone’s surprise, Kuang Zhiming pulled his hand out of his pocket, revealing a cell phone between his fingers!

“Xiaofeng!” He found a webpage, held it up to his wife, and shouted, “Look what this is!”

Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a promotional text message from a certain brand: In celebration of the Spring Festival, all winter clothing, including new styles, is 20% off or more.

The surrounding Taoist priests: “…”

….

As everyone descended the mountain, they received a call from Beijing. The hospital informed them that Xu Xiaofeng, who had been unconscious, had awakened. Kuang Zhiming burst into tears on the spot, indicating that he wanted to speak with his wife.

Xu Xiaofeng’s voice was weak, tinged with anxiety: “…Zhiming, my XX brand coat…it really only cost a thousand, I bought it on sale…”

Taoist priests: “…”

It seems her body was still conscious when her soul left it; she must have overheard everyone’s comments about her spending power that night. Kuang Zhiming, however, wasn’t thinking about anything else. What more could he ask for than for his wife to wake up? For a cultivator, money was ultimately just an external thing.

The couple broke down in tears over the phone. When they came out, the local police from Xin’an had already arrived and were dispersing the tourists who had gathered on the mountain road to watch the commotion. Even the media, who were quick to get the news, rushed over.

The tourists stirred slightly upon seeing a group of Taoist priests emerge and began to whisper amongst themselves.

“Was it them who made that loud commotion in the mountains just now?”

“Could they be poaching wild animals?”

The media also looked at the group of Taoist priests with strange expressions, as if they had just been through a fierce battle and many of their clothes still had bloodstains on them. They were more suspicious that a gunfight had just taken place in Yucheng Mountain.

The police also stepped forward and asked, “Taoist priests, what was that howling sound that came from deep in the mountains just now…?”

Everyone fell silent for a moment upon hearing this, their gazes involuntarily falling on the chubby little boy, who was already dressed and lying on the back of a Taoist priest: “…It’s nothing, there was a slight accident when we were arresting the cult leader.”

They captured their own sect’s mythical beast.

The Taoist priest carrying the chubby boy was extremely excited. Although the process was a bit awkward, he was incredibly fortunate to be able to carry his own sect’s divine beast in his lifetime!

Before he could even enjoy his victory for a few minutes, he heard the policeman staring at the mythical beast on his back with shining eyes: “Isn’t this one of the cult members of the Xiusheng Sect?! Master, hand him over to us, we’ll take him to the station for questioning right away, and he’ll be severely punished according to the law!”

As the effects of the anesthesia wore off, the chubby boy began to wake up. Hearing this, he dazedly shed tears, seemingly oblivious to what had just happened. He had reverted to his previous harmless state: “I… I confess…”

Taoist priests: “…”

The Taoist priests watched helplessly as their lawless and disorderly divine beast was carried away on a stretcher by the police, unsure of how to react. After a long while, one priest finally wept and said, “Evil cults are harmful!”

A perfectly good Xuanwu was arrested and imprisoned! From now on, his resume was tainted, and he could no longer obtain a certificate of no criminal record.

Zhang Pang and his apprentice were increasingly met with hostility, but Zhang Pang remained indifferent, his face pale and his smile cold until the chubby boy on the stretcher turned to look at him.

The chubby boy’s tears flowed incessantly. He looked at him, opened his mouth, and after a long while, let out a barely audible sob: “…Master, it hurts so much…”

Zhang Pang’s expression changed, turning gloomy. Their eyes met, and after a few seconds, he looked away as if he had been burned.

The tall, thin man kept his head down in silence, never looking at his master. He only glanced at his junior brother hurriedly as the chubby boy was carried away on a stretcher. He seemed to want to open his mouth but ultimately didn’t say anything.

These two were finished. The police were examining the evidence that the Taoist priests had found in the mountain house and they were astonished by the amount of illegal profits Zhang Pang had made over the years: “We never expected that he would even make preparations to flee overseas. This amount is much larger than we imagined. It’s enough to give him a hard time.”

As for the tall, thin man, he would also face legal consequences for participating in a cult and committing intentional assault.

The Taoist priests present never expected that their operation to rescue their fellow Taoists’ souls would be so successful. Not only did they achieve their goal, but they also wiped out a long-standing cult in Xin’an and even sent their own divine beast to prison along with them.

Faced with the police’s approving gazes, everyone was a little at a loss, except for Tuan Tuanyi from Taicang Sect, who stood up with a smile and faced the police and media cameras: “Combating bad behavior is the duty of every citizen. We, the leaders of Taicang Sect and all the Taoist priests, have always firmly implemented the rule of law. This is just a small matter and not worth mentioning.”

The police were quite surprised: “I never expected that religious people could have such awareness!”

The Taoist priests initially found the conversation somewhat perplexing, but upon further reflection, they realized they couldn’t find any real logic in it.

The Taoist priests of Xin’an were truly convinced. With a mysterious expression, they said, “…Fellow Taoists from the Beijing Taoist Association, you are indeed very politically conscious in your actions. We, the Xin’an Taoist Association, will have to learn a lot from you in the future.”

The Taoist priests from the capital were silent for a moment, and just as they were about to explain, the Taoist priests from Xin’an spoke up again: “After this incident, our Xin’an Taoist Association was deeply moved. With the support of Taoist priest Wei from Taicang Sect, we plan to hold a seminar. I wonder if any of you Taoist priests would be interested in attending?”

The Taoist priests in the capital were taken aback: “What seminar?”

Xin’an Association’s Master: “It’s on the topic of combining Taoist culture with modern technology. It hasn’t been finalized yet, but we plan to propose adding anesthetic needles to the list of everyday ritual implements in the future.”

Taoist priest from the capital: “…”

Xin’an Association’s Master: “Fellow Daoists in the capital have such advanced ideas and are at the forefront of innovation in rituals. As pioneers in combining Chinese and Western approaches, you will surely vote in favor, right?”

Taoist priests from the capital: “…”

“However, the most urgent matter at hand is this,” the Taoist priests said, their expressions turning sorrowful again, and they sobbed heavily. “Since the divine beast of Taoism has appeared in the world, I think we should organize our fellow Taoists from various temples to go… go to the detention center to visit Xuanwu.”

In the silence and while avoiding stolen glances, Wei Xi adjusted his clothes, concealing his merits and fame.
