Seeing him stride away, Tuan Tuanyi was a little puzzled. After thinking for a moment, he couldn’t help but feel ashamed: “Master, President Wei is obviously not an ordinary person. I was quite shocked when I first learned about Fei Yi. But President Wei is so old, yet his ability to accept things is so much stronger than mine. I will never make a fuss about it again and embarrass you.”

Wei Xi patted his shoulder reassuringly, then suddenly turned around and saw his second disciple, whom he hadn’t seen for several days, stepping through the door with a chilling aura.

The other person’s slender and upright body was backlit, but for a moment the whole room seemed to brighten by two degrees.

When their eyes met, Wei Xi couldn’t help but hear his own heart pounding in his ears, and instinctively called out, “Que’er!”

However, his second apprentice stood at the door watching him, but did not come over immediately. He simply replied calmly, “Hmm.”

Tuan Tuanyi had always been somewhat afraid of this junior brother, and seeing this, he couldn’t help but crane his neck and guess, “Master, is junior brother in a bad mood?”

Wei Xi wasn’t that perceptive. He didn’t even listen to what he said and quickly walked towards his disciple. After getting closer, he looked him up and down and then reached out to touch his disciple’s cheek: “Que’er, where have you been these past few days?”

His apprentice bent down and pressed his cheek against his, but his expression was very serious: “What do you think?”

Wei Xi, of course, had no idea. He touched his disciple’s face and found it warm, and there seemed to be no injury on his body, so he immediately felt relieved. Then, remembering something, he withdrew his hand and touched his own collar.

Under his apprentice’s watchful eye, he pulled out the purple-gold chain he had just acquired: “Master has just gotten a good thing.”

The apprentice glanced at the purple-gold chain, seemingly uninterested, and asked in a calm, even voice, “Really? How does it taste?”

Wei Xi, unaware of what was going on, took the chain off his own body and put it on his disciple’s head, touching the translucent and round pendant of the purple-gold chain: “How does it feel? There is spiritual energy on it. This is the first time I have encountered it since I came down from the mountain. Wear it close to your body, it will be good for your health.”

The apprentice seemed to pause, his gaze softening considerably as he looked down at him, finally letting out a sigh of helplessness: “Really…”

Seeing his reaction, Wei Xi assumed he didn’t like it and was about to advise him to listen when his apprentice straightened up, deftly tucked the necklace into his collar, and pinched his ear: “I understand.”

Their eyes met, until Tuan Tuanyi’s astonished voice came from the side: “…Master, Master, you asked Mr. Shuo Zong for that chain to bring back to Junior Brother, right?”

Wei Xi replied matter-of-factly, “Ah.”

Tuan Tuanyi looked at him expectantly, but when he didn’t hear anything more, he almost burst into tears. Then he heard his junior brother click his tongue and call out to him in a good mood: “Alright, come over and take this thing and take care of it. I’ll halve your talisman homework this week.”

The junior brother had been becoming increasingly strict with his studies lately, which comforted Tuan Tuanyi somewhat. Upon hearing this, Tuan Tuanyi stepped forward and was stunned: “Junior brother, what is this that you brought back?”

The junior brother tossed the strange creature, which looked like a koi but had a pair of fleshy wings on its back, into his arms. Tuan Tuanyi caught it and found that the strange fish had been cleaned up, and the feathers that should have been on its wings had been removed.

At this moment, Shu Wanrong and Wei Chengshu also entered the house. Upon hearing this, they glanced at his hand and were so surprised that they stopped in their tracks: “What is this thing? It looks so strange!”

Tuan Tuanyi heard his junior brother’s calm reply: “Yingyu[1]“.

Today was his first time reading the Classic of Mountains and Seas for the sake of Fei Yi, and his knowledge of species was not very good. He was a little confused when he heard the name. At this moment, a deep voice came from behind him: “Yingyu, a monster with the body of a fish and the wings of a bird in the Western Section 4 of the Classic of Mountains and Seas. It makes a sound like a mandarin duck. Wherever it appears, there will be a flood. You guys don’t even know this. You’ve really wasted your time reading.”

Tuan Tuanyi glanced back and saw Wei Tianyi, who had changed into his pajamas, coming down the stairs with a dark face, his gaze fixed on him.

Tuan Tuanyi took out his phone to search and found that it was indeed as he had said. Holding the Yingyu fish, he couldn’t help but show a hint of admiration in his eyes: “Amazing, as expected of President Wei, so talented, he even knows this.”

Wei Tianyi gave a cold laugh with a sour face.

Shu Wanrong looked blank: “What ‘Classic of Mountains and Seas’? What are you talking about?”

Wei Chengshu frowned as well: “A monster that causes floods? How could such a thing exist?”

“Yes, we should be puzzled and questioning, that’s the normal reaction, okay?” Tuan Tuanyi couldn’t help but think of the other party’s attitude when faced with those two boxes of Fei Yi meat. After admiring him, he also felt puzzled and asked, “…President Wei, don’t you find it strange at all when you see Yingyu?”

Putting aside him, among everyone present, apart from Wei Xi who had no idea about this, even Shuo Zong looked at him with a hint of surprise.

Wei Tianyi simply chuckled.

Tuan Tuanyi: “…What does ‘hehe’ mean?”

Wei Tianyi had already approached, glanced at the fish in his arms, and suddenly reached out and gave him a hard slap on the head.

Tuan Tuanyi: “?”

Shuo Zong: “?”

Wei Xi: “?”

After a moment of confusion, Wei Xi immediately became displeased: “How dare you hit my disciple!”

Although fighting among disciples was different from fighting with outsiders, internal strife within a sect was never a good thing.

Wei Tianyi, despite being questioned, showed no remorse whatsoever and roared with an air of self-righteousness, “So what if I hit him? I’m not only going to hit him, I’m going to beat you up too!”

Wei Xi: “?”

However, under the abyss-like gaze of Wei Xi’s second disciple behind him, Wei Tianyi didn’t dare to lower his raised arm. In the end, he simply withdrew his hand and let out a heavy, cold snort.

“You damned thing, not only do you make the house a smoky mess, but all you do all day is act like a ghost. I didn’t hold it against you for tricking me into believing you had brought Fei Yi with braised pythons, but you really think I’m stupid? Now you’ve come up with this Yingyu, but I think you’re more like a Yingyu!”

Shuo Zong: “…”

Tuan Tuanyi: “…”

Tuan Tuanyi felt a little wronged after being scolded, so he showed off the fish’s wings: “Who lied to you? Can a fish that isn’t a Yingyu grow such a thing?”

“What do you mean? Wings?” Wei Tianyi got even angrier when he saw the pair of fleshy wings. “Is it so strange that they have wings? Those XX fast food brand’s Qixing breed chickens are fed hormones and can grow three pairs of wings each. Why don’t you catch one and eat it like a phoenix?!”

Tuan Tuanyi: “…”

Shuo Zong: “…”

Shu Wanrong breathed a sigh of relief and quickly believed her husband’s theory: “I was wondering why it looked so strange. It turns out it was from being fed hormones.”

Wei Chengshu’s gloomy expression finally crumbled, and deep confusion flashed across his eyes, utterly perplexed.

Is it true or not? Isn’t the rumor about XX brand’s unusual broiler chicken breeding just a rumor? Is there really a hormone in the world that can make animals grow wings?

….

However, the Wei family, especially Wei Tianyi, firmly refused to believe the scientific explanations in the debunking articles.

He was a successful contemporary person who firmly supported materialism and was very knowledgeable. Being fooled by a swindler once was already a major setback. After learning from his mistakes, how could he possibly believe that there was such a thing as a ‘yingyu’ in the world? It must be produced by hormones!

Even though the chef had prepared the so-called Yingyu fish with an amazing aroma, he still refused to touch it.

In the end, Shu Wanrong who couldn’t resist the aroma, disregarding the threat of hormones, cautiously took a bite. She was immediately amazed by the delicate texture of the meat, which was even more delicate than that of grouper. The plump and tender fish meat was sweet, smooth, and so fresh that it seemed to explode on her taste buds. Even when simply steamed, there was not a trace of fishy smell.

She, a wealthy lady who never worried about money, had tasted all sorts of delicacies over the years. Yet, looking back on her life, this was the first time she had encountered such a uniquely flavored ingredient.

Her eyes sparkled, her face showing shock, and she couldn’t help but marvel at how amazing hormones were these days!

[1] Yingyu (鱆鯺 / 应鱼) in Chinese mythology refers to a mythical fish-like creature or water spirit originating from ancient texts like the Classic of Mountains and Seas. In traditional lore, Yingyu are often described as strange aquatic creatures or fish-like entities whose movements or flapping wings/fins can stir up turbulent waters and cause devastating floods in the mortal realm.
