A sea of blood filled his vision.

Li Yuebai looked vaguely and barely caught a glimpse of Gao Chengyu’s figure— he stood only a few meters away, backlit by the moonlight, a playful expression on his face, just standing there, not coming over.

Why…why wasn’t he attracted to the Vila? Li Yuebai almost lost the strength to even think.

“Are you wondering about this?” Gao Chengyu curled his knuckles and tapped the air in front of him, producing a crisp sound like glass being struck: “Just a barrier.”

If someone were to look closely from God’s perspective, they would see a strange sight: Gao Chengyu was completely enveloped in a transparent barrier, the barrier’s texture like glass, or the purest crystal, isolating all the smell of blood. Of course, he could still see Li Yuebai, still hear Li Yuebai’s voice, but for a vampire of his level, as long as the smell of blood was blocked, the temptation was greatly reduced, and he could resist the temptation and suppress his impulse with willpower.

“If I had arrived any later, you might have been torn to shreds by my men,” Gao Chengyu said. “I risked returning to the country just to get Vila; how could I let you destroy it so easily?”

Around them, the vampires who had been tearing at and fighting over Li Yuebai were now pushed back by another transparent barrier created by Gao Chengyu, but they still hadn’t snapped out of their madness. They were afraid of their leader and dared not advance, yet they couldn’t resist the temptation, standing viciously behind the barrier, repeatedly licking the remaining blood from their fingernails.

Like humans, Vila’s blood was regenerative; as long as it remained alive, its blood would be produced in a continuous flow— this was Gao Chengyu’s plan. He wanted to tame the Vila, keep it like livestock, and use its blood as a reward to control his vampire subordinates.

In modern society, ordinary people who came into contact with drugs were unable to resist the immense temptation, gradually falling into the abyss and becoming completely controlled by drugs and drug dealers. For vampires, Vila was such a drug.

“Initially, I wanted a completely obedient Vila, so I created so many illusions for you, aiming to damage your mind.” Gao Chengyu shook his head: “Unfortunately, it didn’t achieve its purpose at all.”

The numerous illusions in the Seven Star Tower were completely broken by the Vila in front of him, which was beyond Gao Chengyu’s expectations. Based on his understanding of Gu Xisha, Gu Xisha should have been the kind of person with a hardened, overly rigid, and easily broken personality, coupled with the influence of childhood trauma… Such a person should have been the easiest to be defeated by illusions. Unexpectedly… even the Vila’s mind couldn’t be damaged, so the hundreds of brainwashing and training methods that followed were useless. It was impossible to obtain a docile, subservient Vila.

Therefore, Gao Chengyu could only settle for a simpler and more direct solution.

“From this moment on, everything you own no longer belongs to you.” Gao Chengyu raised his right hand and waved it lightly.

Something transparent in the air gradually solidified— a new barrier. Around Li Yuebai’s body, a box-shaped object gradually solidified— a coffin. Its shape was no different from a typical black coffin, except it was completely transparent. The coffin contained Li Yuebai’s blood-soaked body and quietly closed its transparent lid.

“Host, the current situation is at the highest level of danger. Please issue instructions immediately.” Even the Judge was somewhat anxious: “We are only one step away from complete mission failure.”

The Judge had a clear and reasonable assessment of the current situation, knowing that once the host was imprisoned, it would be difficult to find another chance to escape or fight back.

Li Yuebai wanted to answer the system, but he couldn’t utter a single word.

Healing magic had been cast inside the transparent coffin. The wounds all over his body had stopped bleeding and even began to heal slowly. However, his healed body was even more limp and weak than when he was injured. Even in his hazy consciousness, he understood that Gao Chengyu wouldn’t be so kind; he wouldn’t completely heal him, but merely prolong his life, keeping him in this painful, half-dead state forever.

Li Yuebai subconsciously moved his right hand, trying to test his remaining strength, but this attempt was quickly interrupted.

The transparent coffin lid opened, a sharp whistling sound filled the air, and a sharp thorn flew into the coffin. Its length and thickness were similar to a pen, yet it was incredibly sharp. It pierced Li Yuebai’s wrist as he tried to move, embedding itself deeply in the bottom of the coffin.

Li Yuebai’s eyes widened in shock.

The pain was intense, but there was no bleeding; not a single drop was wasted.

“Don’t move,” Gao Chengyu’s voice was low. “Even now, I still believe you’ll resort to some tricks, so to be on the safe side, it’s best if you don’t move at all…”

He scrutinized Li Yuebai closely, then chanted a spell.

More thorns appeared out of thin air, circled once, and then, like a hail of darts, pierced Li Yuebai’s left wrist and both ankles, rendering him unable to move even a finger.

Li Yuebai bit his lip hard, suppressing a cry of pain. Although he couldn’t move, his body was still trembling slightly, cold sweat trickling down his collarbone, mingling with the blood that had flowed earlier.

Why, why, even after being injured to this extent, couldn’t he fall unconscious?

“Host, this mission has likely failed prematurely.” The Judge turned the entire screen red: “I’m sorry, as your system, I am powerless to reverse the situation.”

“System…” Li Yuebai finally regained a little strength to ask the system: “Why am I still conscious…?”

“Your mental strength is extremely powerful, and your injuries have just been healed by magic, so you won’t fall into a coma.” The Judge’s voice was somewhat puzzled, not understanding why the host would ask this question at a critical moment.

“Where is Ye Qing…?”

“Host, as your system, I obeyed your orders and hypnotized Ye Qing. He is currently in a safe area not far from you and has not been detected by the enemy.”

Hypnosis… so the system has this ability…?

“System, hypnotize me.” Li Yuebai gritted his teeth and gave the order.

“Host, I cannot do that.” The system quickly replied, its tone filled with confusion, anxiety, and guilt: “The system is bound to the host’s mental domain. Hypnotizing you is equivalent to hypnotizing myself. The system cannot do such a thing; it cannot hypnotize itself.”

No, no, if he can’t fall unconscious immediately… the dormant body might fly away…

In Li Yuebai’s inner pocket lay a small black coffin, which he had taken from Director Yang’s safe, successfully evading Director Wang’s pursuit, and had carried with him throughout his escape.

Now, it was time to use it.

Li Yuebai carefully recalled the records in “The Examination of Blood Charms,” which tended to believe that the power of a dormant vampire was extremely strong, and when it possessed other ghostly creatures, it would suppress the characteristics of those other ghosts.

In other words, even as a Vila, he could still be possessed by a dormant vampire. After being possessed, he would transform into a vampire, no longer a Vila.

The moment he used the scent of his blood to help Ye Qing out of trouble, he simultaneously unlocked the silver sealing ropes on the black coffin, placed the opened coffin back in his inner pocket, and waited for the moment when he would be bitten unconscious by the vampires, then be possessed.

After transforming into a vampire, the situation would reverse.

However, he hadn’t anticipated one thing— the expected moment of unconsciousness never came.

The extreme pain only made him more awake.

What to do?

Should he, like in literary works, bite his tongue to commit suicide?

This thought sent a shiver down Li Yuebai’s spine. This method would be extremely painful and difficult to implement, but now, he had no choice but to try.

He secretly stuck his tongue between his teeth, secretly exerting force, intending to bite down— but was stopped.

Even such a subtle movement couldn’t escape Gao Chengyu’s eyes.

A thorn, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, pierced Li Yuebai’s cheek, lodging precisely between his teeth and abruptly stopping his attempt to bite down.

“Ugh…” Li Yuebai let out a muffled groan.

This pain was far more intense than when his hands and feet were pierced, bringing with it boundless despair.

“Gu Xisha, what are you struggling with? Do you really want to commit suicide?” Gao Chengyu’s eyes gleamed with a sinister light: “Or… do you have other intentions? Your actions are suspicious…”

He walked step by step towards Li Yuebai, surrounded by a transparent barrier, bending down to look at him condescendingly: “Or perhaps you’re carrying a weapon you intend to use in a counterattack?”

He didn’t search him personally; he simply clapped his hands, and several more long thorns reappeared in the air. Like nimble fingers, they spun a few times in the air before spiraling down, prying open Li Yuebai’s clothes and meticulously searching his waist and pockets.

Perhaps, in the next second, the small black coffin would be discovered.

Gao Chengyu narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Li Yuebai.

He was certain he would find something soon.

His entire attention was focused on Li Yuebai, so much so that he didn’t notice the whooshing sound behind him until he heard his men’s exclamations.

With a deafening roar, the transparent barrier surrounding Gao Chengyu shattered.

The weapon that destroyed the barrier was a rifle with a bayonet. It was empty, but the gleaming metal barrel still possessed considerable destructive power.

“You…” Gao Chengyu whirled around, seeing the culprit who had ambushed him. It was indeed a powerful attack; although it hadn’t injured him, it had shattered the barrier.

The vampire before him was pale, his expression cold, a blue tear painted beneath his eye, his rifle steadily pointed at him.

It was the Joker.
