Before long, someone stepped into the entrance of the Serpent’s Lair. Behind him, the landscape was a series of small hills made of severed limbs and remains, blood staining every inch of the land, streams flowing like blood, and the wind carrying the stench of blood.
The Serpent Domain, once arrogant and domineering, had become a mass grave.
Under the gloomy, leaden sky, Shen Jue entered the cave, exuding a murderous aura, like a vengeful ghost emerging from hell, his dark red sword gleaming with a chilling light.
“Clang—” As Shen Jue reached the depths of the cave, he sensed the sound of wind breaking behind him and immediately turned his sword to block.
In the pitch-black cave, only the silver light of swords clashing could be seen; several moves had already been exchanged in the blink of an eye.
Lan Kun clenched his teeth, intending to stab Shen Jue with his knife. His blade was poisoned; if Shen Jue were wounded, the poison would fester and drain his blood, rendering him powerless to resist. However, Shen Jue’s attacks were too fierce, and given that he had already reached the Nascent Soul stage, Lan Kun knew he had no chance of winning after a few moves.
His sneak attack failed, and his sparring was proving ineffective, so Lan Kun began to retreat, intending to activate the mechanisms within the cave to release poisonous mist and needles. He no longer cared about the little beauty. Lan Kun suddenly lunged at Shen Jue with a low slash, but Shen Jue deflected it with a twist of his sword, the force of the blow numbing Lan Kun’s hands.
Lan Kun used his other hand to throw poison, but Shen Jue retreated and dodged the needles. Lan Kun immediately retreated to the mechanism’s entrance, just about to activate it, when Shen Jue struck with lightning speed, forcing Lan Kun to raise his own blade to block.
The sounds of swords slicing and grinding continued incessantly. Shen Jue pressed down on the sword with one hand, while Lan Kun gripped the knife with both hands, forced downwards until cracks appeared on the blade, which was constantly being pressed closer to his neck.
The dark red demonic energy completely suppressed the black demonic energy.
With the sword against Lan Kun’s neck, Shen Jue coldly asked, “Where is she?”
Shen Jue had slaughtered many demons, all of whom had persecuted the Heart-Eating Fox Clan, and the Snake Clan was no exception. Lan Kun had thought that Shen Jue had entered the Nascent Soul stage of the Heart-Eating Fox Clan and had come to take revenge on the Snake Clan, but he hadn’t expected that Shen Jue had truly come for a woman.
There were truly few fools like him in the world.
A glint of shrewdness flashed in Lan Kun’s eyes, then his resentful expression vanished, replaced by a relaxed and carefree demeanor: “I have the leverage over you, yet you still dare to be so arrogant. Aren’t you afraid you’ll never see that little beauty again?”
Shen Jue narrowed his eyes, sheathed his blood sword, and took two steps back.
Lan Kun straightened up, straightened his clothes, and casually tossed aside the broken knife; there was no need to use it anymore.
Lan Kun slowly sat on the stone seat, pulled You Xu out from behind it, and raised his chin slightly, adopting a victorious posture. “Two tigers cannot share one mountain. The demon race should only have one king. I am the king, and what about you?”
His words implied that Shen Jue should submit, immediately kneel and kowtow, and shout that Lan Kun was his king.
Shen Jue didn’t even glance at You Xu, and with a flick of his blood sword, slashed across with two bloody blades.
In a flash, the stone seat was smashed to pieces. Lan Kun barely dodged, his hair cut in half, while You Xu was severed at the waist, instantly transforming into a snake cut in two.
Lan Kun’s eyes widened in fury: “You!”
Shen Jue’s tone was icy cold: “One last time, where is she?”
Lan Kun’s expression hardened, and he reached out and pressed a switch on the stone wall. A rumbling sound rang out, and a hidden door opened in the stone wall. He grabbed the person inside by the hair and dragged her out.
Long periods of hunger, disrupted sleep patterns, and extreme mental tension left You Xu barely alive, her face haggard. It took her a while to recover. She opened her eyes and saw the person not far away, weakly calling out, “Big Fox…”
Shen Jue’s long eyes narrowed, and his hand clenched tightly. A strong, chilling killing intent surged forth, and his eyes turned bloodshot.
Lan Kun felt much better now. He hated the Heart-Eating Fox’s nonchalant attitude, and he hated the unfairness of the heavens bestowing such powerful abilities upon them. Why should some be born kings?
He would make everyone know how this king died at his feet.
Lan Kun sneered, “You want to kill me?”
With that, he grabbed You Xu by the neck and lifted her up.
You Xu’s pained expression caused Shen Jue to instantly suppress his demonic aura. His gaze towards Lan Kun was colder than the dead of winter. “What do you want?”
“What do I want?” Lan Kun smiled coldly. “You slaughtered tens of thousands of snakes in my Ten Thousand Snake Cave. Do you really think your life is enough to atone for it?”
“You will pay with your life and ten thousand times the pain,” Lan Kun threw a small porcelain bottle at Shen Jue’s feet. “This medicine is called Devouring Sorrow. If the user has any wounds, the pain will be magnified countless times.”
“After you take this medicine, I will cut ten thousand pieces of flesh from your body. Even if you lose a single piece, you won’t be able to save him.”
The Heart-Eating Fox wouldn’t die unless its heart was removed. He wanted to make Shen Jue suffer a fate worse than death. What kind of king was he? In the end, he would still suffer unbearable pain at his feet, becoming barely human. Finally, he would rip out Shen Jue’s heart, and from then on, the demon race would only have one king.
“No…” Her throat tightened and ached, and You Xu struggled to utter a few weak sounds.
“Don’t be afraid.” Shen Jue’s cold expression softened considerably when he looked at You Xu.
He picked up the porcelain bottle from the ground and swallowed it without hesitation.
At that moment, a thin, black-scaled snake crawled out from Lan Kun’s arm, coiling around it and relentlessly moving towards You Xu.
You Xu immediately recognized it; this snake was the one that had won the battle against the thousand venomous snakes a few days ago. The image of its vicious bite was vividly clear in her mind.
Now, as she met the snake’s gaze, she could even sense a signal: it wanted to tear her apart with its venomous fangs. You Xu’s weak body tensed uncontrollably, her scalp tingled, her nerves stretched to their limit, and she experienced nausea, chills, and vomiting due to the stress response.
Lan Kun chuckled, “It seems even the little beauty is afraid of it. You’d better hurry to rescue her from this predicament.”
“Remember, ten thousand pieces of flesh, not a single one less,” Lan Kun said. “This snake’s venom is so potent that even I don’t have an antidote. You’d better think carefully.”
The snake crawled into Lan Kun’s mouth; he could almost touch it with a flick of its tongue.
Shen Jue threw down his blood-stained sword, tore his left sleeve, and pulled a dagger from his waist, slicing two pieces of flesh from his arm.
Blood flowed from the cold, white skin on both sides of his arm, disappearing into the dark ground.
Lan Kun laughed loudly, his eyes filled with bloodlust and malice.
“Warning, warning,” 78 hurriedly said, “The mission target’s corruption value has increased to 75, 76, 77, 78…”
You Xu was almost driven mad, frantically searching for items in the mental points shop. The points shop was generally not open to the public, and the items inside could easily cause world bugs. Only in emergencies, when the system activated the emergency button, could the host browse the items in the points shop. There were countless items inside, and You Xu didn’t have time to look at them carefully. She directly exchanged for a massive cleaver that could cut through bones like mud.
Lan Kun had been enjoying Shen Jue’s process from self-harm to self-destruction, completely unaware that You Xu had pulled out a large cleaver from somewhere. Before he could react, You Xu slashed with the fastest speed she had ever used.
But the severed-tailed snake had already opened its mouth to bite her, and You Xu had no choice but to change the angle of the blade, slashing at Lan Kun’s arm instead.
“Ah—”
In the blink of an eye, Lan Kun’s wrist was severed, and he screamed in agony as the snake with its severed tail was cut in two.
“Damn it!” Lan Kun’s other hand sprouted claws, reaching for You Xu.
A dagger flew over, and Lan Kun was instantly impaled through the heart, pinned to the stone wall.
You Xu looked at Shen Jue, seeing him rushing towards her, and seeing his broken gaze, her eyes wide with panic.
“What…” Before she could even ask, a sharp pain shot through her neck as two sharp objects pierced her skin and into her flesh. She felt a thin liquid trickle down her neck and into her body.
You Xu froze, looking down to see the snake with its severed tail biting her neck, its sinister and ferocious light glaring at her.
A snake that had triumphed in a desperate battle, in its final moment, was fighting to take someone down with it.
The next moment, You Xu was embraced in a warm embrace.
Shen Jue grabbed the snake, flames erupting from his hand. The purplish-red fire sizzled as it burned the flesh, and in an instant, the severed-tailed snake turned into a pile of black ash, which was discarded to the ground.
You Xu coughed up a mouthful of black blood: “Big Fox…”
“You’ll be alright.” Shen Jue dug his hand into his chest, five bloody holes instantly staining his white robes red, followed by the sound of flesh tearing.
With her last bit of strength, You Xu grabbed his wrist, stopping his movement. She said weakly, “I don’t want your heart.”
“Big Fox, take me back…” she gasped, each word uttered with extreme difficulty, “back to Medicine Spirit Valley. My brother can… can save me. I… I don’t want your heart.”
“Big Fox.”
“Listen carefully.”
“I’ll wait for you… to come and marry me…”
So I don’t want your heart, and I don’t want anything to happen to you.
Before the words were finished, You Xu closed her eyes, and the world returned to darkness and silence.
