“System notification, host, given your vila constitution, it’s best not to join the battle,” the Judge said. “You will only disrupt the battle and negatively impact your allies.”

The Judge was absolutely right.

If he joined the battle now, it would be like throwing a piece of meat into a wolf’s den or pouring water into a frying pan; the chaos it would cause was unimaginable.

“Thank you, system, I understand everything you said.” Li Yuebai nodded, not stopping in his tracks. “A vila walking into the midst of vampires will only cause chaos and then be torn to shreds by the swarming vampires.”

“Yes,” the Judge emphasized again. “Moreover, you are not carrying any weapons, and your physical condition is not good.”

Li Yuebai was soaking wet, his clothes completely drenched by the water from the deep pond, clinging tightly to his body and hindering his movements. The illusions he experienced in the Seven Star Tower had left him physically and mentally exhausted, compounded by the recent battle with the tentacle creature… his body was on the verge of collapse. Every muscle ached, his joints felt rusty, and every step was incredibly difficult.

His only weapon was the small knife in his hand.

Even so, Li Yuebai gripped the knife and stumbled towards Ye Qing.

“Li Yuebai, don’t come any closer.” Ye Qing’s voice rang out again.

It sounded weary, hoarse, and low, but Li Yuebai felt as if struck by lightning.

He had never heard Ye Qing speak with such despair.

“Xiao Ye, are you going to die?”— Li Yuebai instinctively asked in voice, the system dutifully converting it into text.

“Mmm.”

This faint “Mmm” sent chills down Li Yuebai’s spine, causing him to tremble uncontrollably.

He glanced in Ye Qing’s direction, but due to the distance and the abundance of ruins and trees, he couldn’t see anything.

“System, can you see what’s happening on Ye Qing’s side?”

“I can see a little bit. I’m sending you the image now, please receive it.” The Judge quickly sent a video-like image to Li Yuebai.

Li Yuebai saw a circle.

To be precise, it was a circle made up of vampires, about twenty or so, draped in black robes, each with a different form. They formed a circular formation less than ten meters in diameter, wielding various strange weapons, their bloodthirsty and cruel eyes fixed on the person in the center of the circle.

It was Ye Qing. He showed no panic, just standing there coldly. He was still holding a long spear, which was covered in thick, dark blood. The spear was probably empty, but the tip still had a gleaming silver bayonet— whichever direction the bayonet pointed, the vampires in that direction would show fear and avoid it like the plague.

However, in terms of numbers and weaponry alone, the vampires still held the advantage— they wielded a variety of weapons— crossbows with sterling silver arrowheads, sharp longswords, guns… all of these weapons were pointed directly at Ye Qing’s heart.

This standoff had achieved a strange equilibrium.

Despite their superior numbers, the vampires feared the final bayonet on Ye Qing’s spear. They knew that whoever dared to attack Ye Qing first might become the only, and last, vampire to be stabbed to death by him.

Therefore, they hesitated, none willing to be the first to strike, none willing to become the sacrifice.

However, this balance couldn’t last long.

Gao Chengyu’s primary objective was to kill Ye Qing. When he saw his men hesitating, he wouldn’t stand idly by. Instead, he would immediately issue orders, promising even more enticing rewards to entice them to act quickly.

The moonlight shone down, illuminating all the weapons, making them gleam with a deathly light.

Then Li Yuebai saw Ye Qing frown in the moonlight, looking quite displeased.

“Li Yuebai, why aren’t you leaving? Don’t come any closer,” he said, oblivious to everyone else. Every vampire was very sensitive to Vila’s scent, and Ye Qing could sense it. As Li Yuebai drew closer, the other vampires also sensed it slightly, but due to their mission, they hadn’t been lured away yet.

“If I don’t come soon, you’re going to die!” Li Yuebai was a little angry. Even at this point, this kid was still stubbornly holding on.

“It’ll be the same if you come,” Ye Qing smiled. “Stop fooling around, get out of here quickly.”

“It’s not the same.” An unnamed fire ignited in Li Yuebai’s heart. “I said I would save you, and this time, we will definitely win.”

Ye Qing didn’t answer. Clearly, he still felt he would die. After all, dozens of weapons were waiting to pierce his heart at any moment, and the hope of escape was extremely slim, almost zero.

Li Yuebai felt his anger intensify.

Having known Ye Qing for so many days, he had finally managed to pique Ye Qing’s interest in this world, establish an alliance, and even make him think that winning this battle would be interesting. And now, he’d actually given up hope of survival? Like a movie protagonist, he was telling him to run away?

Unbelievable!

Li Yuebai stopped walking, estimating the distance between himself and Ye Qing.

“Xiao Ye, you must do as I say next.” Li Yuebai took a deep breath and said directly to Ye Qing, “That is— hold your breath.”

“Hold your breath?” The Judge was stunned. “Host, what do you mean?”

“Literally.” Li Yuebai gripped the small knife in his right hand and plunged it into himself.

Blood immediately gushed out, fresh, warm, and sweet.

The air, which had been filled with the faint scent of algae and dust, was now completely overwhelmed by the intense smell of blood, permeating everything.

This scent was a deadly temptation for vampires.

The once unbreakable circle shattered instantly.

The vampires who had been brandishing weapons at Ye Qing were momentarily stunned, almost losing their footing; some even dropped their weapons.

Soon, they uncontrollably abandoned their mission to kill Ye Qing, no longer confronting him, but turning and rushing towards the source of the stench of Vila’s blood.

The situation instantly descended into chaos.

A surge of intense pain overwhelmed Li Yuebai. He felt as if countless crimson flowers were blooming before his eyes. The pain was unbearable; he didn’t know how much effort he had to exert to barely stay upright and avoid fainting.

He had always been a cautious person, always mindful of protecting himself, never engaging in reckless or aggressive behavior. Even after transmigrating, he had never suffered a serious injury. He had never imagined, and never dared to believe, that he would do such a thing— to personally stab himself.

This time, he truly had no other choice.

Despite the gushing blood, Li Yuebai didn’t bandage himself but instead retreated step by step.

“Xiao Ye… run!” he mumbled through the pain, sending this message to Ye Qing.

At this moment, he absolutely couldn’t let Ye Qing come to his rescue. Although Ye Qing had a high tolerance for pain, it didn’t mean he could endure the raw, raw blood of vila. Therefore, the wisest course of action was to send him far away.

“Host, you are currently in extreme danger,” the Judge warned. “Do you really want to face this alone?”

“Yes,” Li Yuebai gasped for breath, the pain almost blinding him. “Get Ye Qing away. I can handle what’s coming next.”

“Handle?” the Judge said. “You’ll be dealing with over twenty vampires with considerable magical and combat abilities, and you’re injured.”

“Don’t worry,” Li Yuebai managed to squeeze out those two words before falling silent.

The vampires’ chilling presence was already upon him.

A hand with sharp nails reached out and viciously grabbed Li Yuebai’s neck.

Several vampires in black robes, having followed the scent of Vila’s blood, found Li Yuebai and, without wasting a second confronting him, pounced.

From a god’s-eye view, the scene was nothing short of hell.

Li Yuebai didn’t resist, nor did he have the strength to speak. He was forced to the cold, muddy ground by the vampires. Countless sharp teeth bit into his body, countless sharp nails pierced his skin, and blood was continuously sucked from his body, instantly turning his once smooth skin into a bloody mess.

Li Yuebai heard the sound of his neck being bitten open, the sound of blood being slowly sucked from his veins, and the sound of the bones in his arms being crushed.

At first, it hurt terribly, but slowly, he felt nothing.

While Li Yuebai fell into a semi-conscious state, the vampires began to kill each other.

There were simply too many vampires, and there was only one Vila; there wasn’t enough to go around.

Even allies from the same camp couldn’t maintain peace in the face of such tempting drugs.

The first few vampires to pounce on Li Yuebai were attacked from behind by their own comrades; one was even sliced to pieces by a flash of blades, sticky black blood flowing down and splattering on the ground in a horrifying sight.

“Host, why has it turned out like this?” Even the Judge couldn’t accept such a terrible reality, his voice filled with shock: “If this continues, you…you’ll die soon.”

So, why hadn’t he died yet? Why hasn’t he completely fallen into a coma? Wasn’t this torture enough?

Li Yuebai thought vaguely, feeling as if he had returned to a deep pond, being dragged down by tentacle creatures, sinking deeper and deeper.

Then, he felt the vampires seem to stop moving, no longer biting and scratching his body.

A voice rang in his ears.

Thankfully, it wasn’t Ye Qing’s voice, it was Gao Chengyu’s voice.

“Gu Xisha, do you really want to die?” Gao Chengyu’s voice was still gentle and refined. “To prevent me from obtaining a living Vila body for my experiments, you’re willing to damage your own body and give up your life. That’s suicide. Only a coward would choose suicide.”

“…” Li Yuebai used his last bit of strength to barely open his eyes, his vision filled with crimson.

“And I, of course, won’t even give you the right to commit suicide.” Gao Chengyu smiled.
