“After the curtain appeared on your end, you were able to receive quests? Wait, your initial interface is actually my house? And the me you saw at the beginning was a cartoon character with short arms and legs?… No, explain yourself, you’ve already learned English during this time? I’m so pissed!”

“Don’t say anything yet, let me calm down—” After asking Lu Huan about the situation in detail, Su Xi was completely bewildered.

She already thought it was unbelievable that a game could connect to the ancient Yan Kingdom on her phone, but now something even more mind-numbing had happened. The thing that appeared on her son’s side, which he called a “curtain,” was clearly just an enlarged version of her phone screen!

In other words, this system was actually two-sided. The functions of the system on the kid’s side were exactly the same as those on her side! In fact, it was even more advanced— after all, the curtain on his side was transparent, so that she couldn’t see it!

Although she had guessed that the little one should be able to see her after the physical test, she had never expected it to be like this. Now, this game could perhaps no longer be called a game, but a system bridge connecting two dynasties.

Su Xi plopped down on the bed, staring blankly for a long time before slowly piecing together the logic behind it all. If she told others about this, they would definitely think it was a fantasy. Who would believe that Su Xi had initially just clicked on a mobile game to pass the time, a game that would send the protagonist to the throne, and then the game turned into a real world? And now, in the kid’s world, the same device had appeared.

However, from the very beginning, the fact that this game could only appear on Su Xi’s phone and could not be downloaded on other people’s phones was already illogical and incomprehensible. Therefore, no matter what happened now, Su Xi could digest it with her strong self-healing ability after the initial shock.

After accepting this, Su Xi looked at the handsome boy on the screen again and thought— this is no longer a game, it’s turned into a video chat!

Su Xi found it all very surreal, but she was also quite unconvinced. So she said to the kid, “Take out your English test paper. I want to see how many points you can get.”

Lu Huan had previously worried that if Su Xi found out he could see her, she would see it as a burden and feel uncomfortable and would then ignore him. Therefore, he dared not let her find out. But now, carefully observing her expression, he realized that although she was shocked, she did not intend to sever their connection, so he was relieved.

He turned around, pulled out the papers he had used to answer questions a few days earlier from his luggage, spread them out on the straw in the tent, and asked with amusement, “Are you going to grade me?”

“Yes, don’t get too excited yet, you might fail!” Su Xi said confidently, pouring cold water on her son’s enthusiasm.

The little one didn’t seem to care. He put his hands behind his back and looked at her behind the curtain, then smiled and said, “I’ve also answered the questions for the other subjects. Calculate my score for me. Maybe I can squeeze into the top ten in your school’s grade.”

…Su Xi was once again utterly bewildered: “You even know what it means to be in the top ten of the grade?!”

The kid smiled silently, then pulled out his notes from his luggage, which contained knowledge about her dynasty that he had learned through self-study over the past six months. He already understood the meaning of many words, but he still couldn’t get rid of some habits, such as subconsciously calling “school” as “academy”.

He placed a thick stack of neatly written notes on the haystack, looked up at Su Xi, his dark eyes bright, and his expression showed a hint of pride and a desire for praise.

The surreal scene left Su Xi completely bewildered, and her mind went blank as she went to grade her son’s English homework.

After the exam, the teachers handed out the answers and asked the students to check them at home over the weekend. So she quickly graded her son’s English homework, comparing it with the “ABC” answers.

After calculating the final score, Su Xi stood in front of her desk, completely dumbfounded.

The test was worth 150 points, with 30 points for the listening portion and 25 points for writing comprehension. Except for these two parts, which her son didn’t answer, he answered all the other fill-in-the-blank questions, and his test score was a whopping 95 points!

In other words, all the answers he gave were correct?!

Even she didn’t get them all right; she got two of the cloze test questions wrong.

Su Xi looked at her son on the screen in great fear.

Seeing her look over, the little one casually raised his head and curled his lips into a smile.

Su Xi felt as if her worldview had collapsed and been reshaped once again!

Although I already knew that my son was very smart when I got involved in the court politics with him before!

But these past few months, he’s been so busy with military affairs, every time I log on I see him so busy he doesn’t even have time to drink a sip of tea. How on earth has he managed to squeeze out time to learn English, history, and other subjects in this world?!

Could this be the legendary chosen one?!

…Su Xi felt a mix of admiration and envy, deliberately ignoring the bright, pleading look on her son’s face as he asked for praise, and took a sip of cola to calm herself down.

“What are you drinking?” Now that he could finally see her from his side without having to hide it, the boy on the screen had a very strong thirst for knowledge.

Su Xi shook the soda in her hand and mumbled, “Cola, a carbonated drink.”

Lu Huan pondered for a moment and asked, “When I saw you and your friend leaving school today, the word ‘buying Coke’ appeared in the book she was holding. What does that mean?”

Su Xi almost spat out her cola. She angrily said, “Don’t read the books Gu Qin reads anymore!”

“…Why?” The little one was stunned for a moment.

Su Xi was internally screaming and tearing her hair out. She decided to find an opportunity to have a serious talk with Gu Qin, telling her to stop reading erotic novels when she was with her, and to tell Huo Jingchuan to tone it down and not to speak so recklessly in her presence. Her son was from ancient times— reserved, polite, and well-mannered— and he was about to be led astray by those two!

Even though they were her two best friends— Su Xi felt a terrible headache just thinking about the ubiquitous internet cafes, arcades, karaoke bars, and other entertainment venues in modern society, as well as the romantic soap operas on TV. Oh no, if her child is exposed to these things for too long, will he still be the innocent child he always was?!

So she said to her son, “The culture of my dynasty has both good and bad aspects. You should take the essence and discard the dross. Gu Qin’s books are the dross!”

Before Lu Huan could say anything more, Su Xi immediately said, “It’s like you’re telling me not to go to brothels, but if you keep reading Gu Qin’s books, I’ll go to a brothel when you’re not looking! I’ll even go to the Ministry of War’s bathhouse!”

“You dare!” The little boy’s face immediately darkened on the screen.

Su Xi chuckled: “Let’s see if I dare.”

Lu Huan: “…”

Unable to stop her from doing anything through the curtain, Lu Huan felt somewhat frustrated.

Su Xi’s gaze returned to the thick, densely packed text about modern civilization. She flipped through it through the screen and found that the cub had recorded it in great detail.

This included topics such as “Regulations for the Use of Public Buses,” “Records of Household Items such as Faucets and Heaters,” and “Detailed Explanation of Underground Carriage Routes.”

These terms like “bus” and “heating lamp” were completely unfamiliar to the child, let alone how to use them or the complex city subway routes.

However, the little one spent a lot of time, lighting candles, and carefully studying it bit by bit.

No wonder that during that period, every time Su Xi logged on, she felt that the kid hadn’t slept in a long time, and there was always a dark spot under his eyes.

He probably studied these things in order to better communicate with her.

He should have been terrified of this completely new world, but instead of rejecting it, he tried to integrate.

Su Xi felt a pang of tenderness in her heart…

Although they didn’t say it aloud, she wanted to see the cub in the same time and space, and the cub also wanted to see her in the same time and space. They must have the same wish.

Perhaps this wish would never be fulfilled.

But when she saw that he hadn’t moved an inch, yet had already silently used all his strength to take ninety-nine steps toward her from where she couldn’t see him… her heart couldn’t help but flutter…

Su Xi couldn’t help but look at Lu Huan on the screen, who was still depressed and even a little angry because of her earlier suggestion to go to the Ministry of War to peep at men taking a bath, and couldn’t help but smile.

Lu Huan didn’t know why she was laughing, but the light from the lamp on the curtain fell on her profile, outlining her soft features. Lu Huan couldn’t help but look at her face. Gradually, as if infected, the gloom in his dark eyes faded, and a strange joy appeared at the corners of his eyes and brows.

This was the first time the two of them had truly looked each other in the eye.

Both sides were quiet.

Su Xi closed the door, and only the music from her phone flowed quietly. On Lu Huan’s side, it was late at night, the moon was high in the sky, and only the sound of the wind could be heard outside the camp tent.

The feeling was hard to describe. The moons on both sides seemed no different, yet they felt as if they were thousands of miles apart. In a daze, the two felt as if they were in the same space and time, within reach, but they were also clearly aware that what they felt within reach was just a mirage, and that nearly a thousand years could not be traversed in that way.
