Hearing Fu Ke speak, the skinny man stood up. A smug smile played on his lips, giving him a somewhat nonchalant air. He then slung a large sword over his shoulder and squinted at Liu Guo’an.

“If Xiao Bai doesn’t want to leave, nobody’s going to kick her out.”

Liu Guo’an’s face froze. He recognized the skinny man, and not just him. Most people in the base knew him. Although he hadn’t been there long, he had led a group of superhumans and was admired and envied by many.

Moreover, the skinny man was very strong.

Subconsciously, Liu Guo’an looked at Lu Xun. However, Lu Xun smiled and said, “Don’t look at me like that. Fu Ke gave me my life.”

He hadn’t believed Fu Ke was a zombie before, but Fu Ke herself had admitted it. So there was nothing more to say. But Fu Ke wasn’t one of those mindless zombies; she looked almost human.

Lu Xun didn’t know if Fu Ke had ulterior motives for staying at the D City base, but it was a fact that Fu Ke had saved him. And because of Fu Ke, the base quickly weathered the initial difficulties of the apocalypse.

He was certain that if it weren’t for Fu Ke… Even if the base had developed to its current state, it definitely wouldn’t have been possible in such a short time, nor would it have been so easy.

Fu Ke might not seem to have been of much help, but thinking about it carefully, whether it was the zombie apocalypse surrounding the entire school in the early stages, the subsequent rescue operations, or the food supplies, Fu Ke’s involvement was present throughout. Most importantly, she was involved in the food supplies.

And that rainstorm— if it weren’t for Fu Ke, the number of people who turned into zombies or died would likely have been even greater.

Liu Guo’an looked at Lu Xun in disbelief: “I didn’t intend to do anything to her, but she’s a zombie. Do you know what her purpose is in staying here? I’m not harming her; I just want her to leave. Is that wrong?”

“I didn’t say I wouldn’t leave. I just need to wait here for someone,” Fu Ke said casually, a hint of disappointment flashing in her blood-red eyes. “Just as I thought, once Zhang Zhongmin leaves, I should leave too.”

Because this base couldn’t accommodate her.

Liu Guo’an’s throat tightened.

“Squad Leader Liu, did you hear that? Fu Ke didn’t say she wouldn’t leave,” Lu Xun patted his shoulder, finding it somewhat amusing. Liu Guo’an was still clueless.

Fu Ke was a zombie? Had he ever seen a zombie like Fu Ke? Moreover, Fu Ke possessed superpowers; if Fu Ke was a zombie, she likely was from the start.

A zombie that looked just like a human only proved that Fu Ke was incredibly strong.

Lu Xun recalled how Fu Ke used to cook for the base, effortlessly drawing upon an inexhaustible supply of water.

Just then, Fu Ke looked up. Mao Xinhua, holding binoculars on the opposite building, suddenly feeling a sharp pain in his head, screamed, and dropped the binoculars.

“Ah—” He clutched his head, kneeling on the ground, drenched in cold sweat.

“Fourth Brother, what’s wrong?” Deng Yunfei was startled by Mao Xinhua and quickly helped him up. Xiang Jiuming also rushed over to help Mao Xinhua sit in a chair.

“It hurts!” Mao Xinhua felt as if a thousand needles were piercing his brain; it was extremely painful.

Xie Changyi looked at Mao Xinhua, who was constantly sweating, and stared gravely at the Exclusive Restaurant across the street. Without binoculars, the situation inside was unclear.

Fortunately, Fu Ke only discovered someone spying on them, so she intended to teach him a lesson rather than actually cripple him.

After a while, Mao Xinhua gradually recovered from the pain.

“Let’s go.” After Mao Xinhua recovered, Xie Changyi stopped them from speaking with a look and led his men away from the main entrance opposite the Exclusive Restaurant.

Seeing that they were gone, Fu Ke stopped paying attention to them.

Liu Guo’an had no idea that Fu Ke had already attacked someone right before his eyes.

“Alright, three days. I hope that after three days, you and your companions will be gone.” Liu Guo’an took a deep breath and said seriously.

Unfortunately, he didn’t know that the reason why no zombies dared to surround the increasingly populated D City base was not because of the almost dried-out zombie corpses they had placed at the base entrance.

It was because there was a zombie king here, which was why no zombies dared to come.

Fu Ke had been gone for some time, and her aura had gradually faded away. Who knew that Fu Ke would return at this time.

The zombies that had been restless immediately became docile, not daring to approach.

“Fu Ke, it’s not that I can’t tolerate you, but there are so many people in the base, I dare not take the risk. If I were alone, I definitely wouldn’t do this.” Liu Guo’an felt his words were somewhat hypocritical.

But… with so many people in the base, he truly dared not take the risk.

Even if Fu Ke had no ill intentions, would the people in the base think so?

Fu Ke gave Liu Guo’an a faint smile, remaining silent. Liu Guo’an glanced at Lu Xun, sighed, and turned to leave.

After Liu Guo’an left, Lu Xun went in and sat down next to Fu Ke.

Fu Ke chuckled and said, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll bite you?”

Lu Xun shook his head: “I’m not Liu Guo’an, I’m not that stupid. But, are you really going to leave here?”

“Yes.” Fu Ke nodded and pointed at Lan Zhi, saying, “We’ll leave once his brother arrives. I can already sense that this base isn’t as peaceful as it used to be.”

Lu Xun was silent for a moment: “Indeed, since Squad Leader Zhang left, many people have started to stir. It’s not just the superpowered squad, but all the squads have started to have various problems.”

“Is his brother also a zombie?” Lu Xun looked at Lan Zhi.

Lan Zhi made a hoarse sound, his blood-red eyes looking at Lu Xun with great dissatisfaction. He didn’t become a zombie voluntarily, and he didn’t want his brother to be like him.

“No, he’s human.” Fu Ke said with a smile: “Don’t talk nonsense, Lan Zhi doesn’t want his brother to become a zombie too.”

Lu Xun was surprised: “He can understand us?”

“…” Lan Zhi, he was indeed an exception.

Fu Ke nodded: “He has his memories from his previous life and has retained his human rationality.”

Lu Xun nodded: “Fu Ke, don’t blame Squad Leader Liu. He’s not that smart, but he’s not stupid either. He didn’t send you away for his own selfish reasons.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t go after Liu Guo’an. I know him well. Let alone him, anyone other than Zhang Zhongmin would be hesitant. Someone else would only go even further than Liu Guo’an.”

Fu Ke smiled, but if someone even more ruthless came, she wouldn’t be easily defeated.

“That’s good.” Although Lu Xun spoke with concern, his expression showed no worry, as if he had known Fu Ke would say that.

“The base isn’t the same place it used to be. Fu Ke, if you’re leaving, can you take me with you?” Lu Xun asked.

Fu Ke was surprised and amused: “Take you with me? Aren’t you afraid of being surrounded by zombies?”

Lu Xun grinned, “Look, even two little kids aren’t afraid, and with Skinny here, what am I afraid of?”

“…” Fu Ke sighed. Even after being reborn, the Brother Long she’d encountered didn’t trust her as much as Lu Xun. It seemed that different experiences could change a person.

Actually, she couldn’t blame Brother Long, because the one who changed him was none other than herself.

Seeing Fu Ke’s bloodshot eyes dim slightly, Lu Xun was puzzled, “You don’t want to take me with you, do you?”

He blinked pitifully.

“If you still want to come with me when we leave, I naturally won’t object,” Fu Ke said with a smile, suppressing her inner turmoil.

“Okay, it’s decided then.” Lu Xun clapped his hands happily.

Skinny saw Lu Xun’s happy expression and pursed his lips. However, he didn’t say anything, only asking, “Xiao Bai, you’ve decided to leave. Have you thought about where you want to go?”

After thinking for a moment, Fu Ke originally wanted to go to the place where she had established her base in her previous life.

However, that place was inconvenient because it had nothing there, while the small villa she had the zombies guarding had a generator inside. Fu Ke narrowed her eyes.

“Before the apocalypse, I bought a small villa in the suburbs of D City, which has a generator. We can go there then.” D City wasn’t very big, but it wasn’t small either. However, the places where people from the D City base looked for supplies were generally not far from the D City base, so they wouldn’t go to the suburbs.

Therefore, even if they went to the suburbs, and didn’t leave D City, the people at the D City base probably wouldn’t know.

….

After Xie Changyi returned to the D City base with a few people, Xie Changyi carefully closed the doors and windows.

Looking at Mao Xinhua, whose face was still very pale, he asked, “Fourth brother, do you know Morse code?”

Mao Xinhua looked at Xie Changyi in surprise and nodded, “I studied it before.” Because Morse code was used in many TV shows, Mao Xinhua was very interested in it and had specifically studied it.

Xie Changyi stopped talking. He sat to the side and rhythmically tapped the table with his index finger.

After listening, Mao Xinhua’s expression was somewhat strange.

Xiang Jiuming couldn’t help but tug at Deng Yunfei. They saw Mao Xinhua also tapping on the table.

“Second Brother, what are the eldest and fourth brothers doing?” Xiang Jiuming asked in a low voice, puzzled.

“Don’t talk.” Deng Yunfei didn’t understand Morse code, but he had heard of it. Even so, watching them tap on the table, he couldn’t help but find it strange.

Xie Changyi was so cautious, but what he hadn’t expected was that Fu Ke wasn’t using her mental power to monitor him at all.

Even if he spoke directly to Mao Xinhua, Fu Ke wouldn’t know.

Xie Changyi was so cautious because Mao Xinhua had suddenly experienced a strange headache while observing the Exclusive Restaurant. Their abilities were similar to those in novels, immediately reminding him of the terrifying abilities described in those novels: mental abilities.

Xie Changyi didn’t know if Fu Ke knew Morse code; if she did, they would probably have no secrets left. But he had no idea that Fu Ke had no interest in constantly observing others.

Let alone them, even when Fu Ke noticed something unusual about Qiu Yinlan, she only observed her for a while before ignoring her completely.

Moreover, the difference in their combat strength was too great. Even if Xie Changyi and the others were plotting something, Fu Ke could wipe them out on the spot if she wanted to.

Back when she was a level nine zombie, those heavy weapons were already useless against her. Besides, there weren’t any heavy weapons in the D City base. The only thing that could be considered a heavy weapon was the explosive pack Zhang Zhongmin brought back.

After returning from the Exclusive Restaurant, Liu Guo’an went to Qin Long’s place.

Qin Long’s dormitory was already empty; everyone was either training or searching for supplies, leaving only Qin Long lying on his bed, lost in thought.

Liu Guo’an entered and looked at Qin Long: “Did you know that Fu Ke is a zombie?”

Hearing Liu Guo’an’s voice, Qin Long sat up abruptly. He stood up, went outside to check, and finding no one there, pulled Liu Guo’an back in and closed the door.

“Don’t worry, I checked already, there’s no one here.” Liu Guo’an looked at the nervous Qin Long: “You knew after all.”

Qin Long slowly nodded: “I only found out yesterday too.”

“Since you knew yesterday, why didn’t you tell me? Qin Long, this base isn’t just my responsibility, it is yours too.” He looked at Qin Long seriously: “I know Fu Ke is very good to you, and you and Fu Ke have a close relationship, but those who are not of our kind will have different hearts, you should understand this principle, right?”

“Zombies are also humans who have been infected with a virus.” Qin Long retorted instinctively.

“Then can you guarantee that Fu Ke won’t attack humans while she’s here? Can she coexist peacefully with the people in the base?” Liu Guo’an asked.

Qin Long really couldn’t guarantee that.

“Never mind, I’ve already told Fu Ke to ask her to leave.” Liu Guo’an breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Qin Long’s expression.

“You, you won’t kill her?” Qin Long looked at Liu Guo’an in surprise.

Liu Guo’an laughed: “You thought I was going to kill Fu Ke? Don’t tell me I’m self-aware enough to not be able to touch Fu Ke; even if Fu Ke weren’t that strong, I wouldn’t touch her unless I saw her eat someone with my own eyes.”

His words left Qin Long speechless.
