Yan Qingchi and Jiang Mochen spent four days on the island, playing on the beach during the day and returning to the hotel to sleep at night. They lamented the wasted time and the loss of ambition, yet were also thoroughly enjoying themselves. Yan Qingchi finally saw the sunrise. On the morning of the third day, he leaned against Jiang Mochen, watching the sun slowly rise from the sea, feeling content and joyful.

He turned to look at Jiang Mochen, “The sunrise at sea is really different from the sunrise in the mountains.”

“Yes.”

“But they’re both beautiful.”

“Mm.”

“A vacation is so nice,” Yan Qingchi said lazily, “I wish I could stay on vacation forever. I want to go on our honeymoon now. We should make it a long one.”

“Okay, we’ll set aside some time and go on a proper trip.”

“We can choose several countries, visit many places, even within China, from domestic to international destinations.”

“Mm.”

“I really want to go right now,” Yan Qingchi said, looking at him.

“Then let’s go public as soon as possible, and then we can get married and go on our honeymoon as soon as possible,” Jiang Mochen suggested.

Yan Qingchi vetoed it immediately, “Let’s take it one step at a time, for my sake and for yours.”

Jiang Mochen hugged him and sighed, “I hope my fans can understand your good intentions.” He looked at Yan Qingchi, “It’s only because of you. If it were someone else marrying me, they probably wouldn’t have waited until now; they would have made me go public long ago. You, on the other hand, are always thinking about the fans’ feelings and aren’t in a hurry at all.”

“So they’re not suitable for you.” Yan Qingchi smiled, “With your status, you’re not some nobody. If you just announce it without any warning, how can the fans accept it? There might be some extreme reactions, and then society will criticize idol worship. Why bother? We’re already together, so what’s the rush? Why rush things? It’s better to give each other some time so they can accept it more easily, and so I can achieve some success. It would be a win-win situation then, wouldn’t it?”

“If it weren’t to prevent you from being reduced just to the label of my partner in everything you do in the future, I would have gone public long ago,” Jiang Mochen said frankly. “That time on my birthday, you suddenly appeared. When I asked the director for leave, I wanted to tell him that my lover had come, but in the end, I sent a WeChat message saying that my family had come. At that moment, I thought that one day, I would tell everyone about our relationship— after you have achieved something.”

Yan Qingchi laughed, “It’s as if I’ve already achieved anything.”

“You will,” Jiang Mochen said confidently, “You will, I believe in you.”

“I believe in myself too,” Yan Qingchi said without any modesty.

Jiang Mochen kissed his forehead, pulled him into his arms, and continued to quietly watch the sunrise with him.

When leaving, Yan Qingchi was still a little reluctant. He sat on the boat, watching the hotel slowly disappear and the island gradually receding into the distance, and suddenly said, “This time, it cost a lot of money, didn’t it?”

Jiang Mochen didn’t speak, but just smiled slightly.

“It was definitely worth it,” Yan Qingchi commented. “I commend you.”

“I thought you’d think it was too wasteful.”

“That’s not my philosophy,” Yan Qingchi said casually. “I’m not the thrifty type. Earning money is meant to improve our quality of life. You’re so rich, of course you have the luxury of wasting money. Besides, we had a lot of fun, so this money was well spent.”

Jiang Mochen nodded. “I think so too.”

After saying goodbye to the private island and returning home, Jiang Mochen didn’t stay long before having to leave for a month because of a film he had taken on.

“This time it won’t be long. I’m just helping out with an important supporting role. I’ll be back soon,” Jiang Mochen said to Yan Qingchi while packing his luggage.

“Okay, go ahead. I’m not busy lately, so I can spend some time with the kids and wait for you to come back.” Yan Qingchi helped him pack his belongings, patted him on the shoulder, and said, “Good luck, get them well.”

Jiang Mochen kissed him and said gently, “Okay.”

Yan Yan had recently become very interested in sports, but due to his age and physical limitations, his sports activities were limited to crawling all over the place. Mother Jiang was worried that he would bump into things and hurt himself, so she had all the furniture covered and carpets laid on the floor.

As Jiang Mochen and Yan Qingchi were packing, they saw Yan Yan crawl in, followed by Qi Qi, who was playing with him.

Qi Qi saw them packing and asked, “Are you going out again?”

Yan Qingchi picked Yan Yan up and said to Qi Qi, “Only your father is going out. I’m not going out. I’ll stay home with you.”

Qi Qi sat down next to him and asked Jiang Mochen, “When will Father come back?”

“In a month.” Jiang Mochen patted his head.

Qi Qi nodded, moved closer to hug him, and said softly, “Then Father, come back soon.”

“Okay.” Jiang Mochen kissed him, “I’ll come back to be with you when I’m done with my work.”

Yan Yan waved his little hand, saying, “fei lai, fei lai.”

Qi Qi corrected him, “It means come back.”

“fei lai.” Yan Yan repeated.

Yan Qingchi was amused by the two of them, lifted Yan Yan’s hand and waved, “Say goodbye to Father, goodbye.”

Yan Yan waved, “Bye-bye, bye-bye.”

Jiang Mochen reached out to hold his little hand, but Yan Yan immediately pulled his hand back, his eyes darting around as he looked at him.

“Hand.” Jiang Mochen held out his hand to him. “Hand, Yan Yan.”

Yan Yan hugged his hand for a moment, then slowly offered it to Jiang Mochen. “Bye-bye, blew-bye, Daddy, blew-bye.”

Jiang Mochen immediately picked him up and put him on his lap, rocking him up and down to amuse him. Yan Yan giggled and babbled, waving his hands.

Qi Qi sat to the side watching them play, smiling happily. He then leaned over to tease Yan Yan. Yan Qingchi watched the three of them playing together, saying nothing, but his eyes were full of tenderness.

Not long after Jiang Mochen left, at the end of June, “Best Partner” aired on Mangosteen TV. Because of Jiang Mochen’s participation, this variety show was highly anticipated from the beginning. On the day of its official broadcast, it directly topped the trending searches, and many viewers waited in front of their TVs for the broadcast.

With nothing else to do, Yan Qingchi watched the preview episode at home. After watching it, he understood why he and Jiang Mochen, despite not aiming for first place during the test and wasting a lot of time playing around, ended up being the first to pull the flag. The reason was simple: among all the groups, they were the most compatible and accommodating.

Of the six groups of guests, excluding the group led by Mo Xiaoxiao and Zhang Ningwei who were unfamiliar with the area and had no concept of wilderness survival and thus followed them the entire way, the remaining four groups were divided. Yang Xinhe and Yu Haoyuan, both young and ambitious, had their own ideas. When faced with disagreements about the route, both firmly believed they were right and were unwilling to compromise. Often, one would reluctantly yield to the other, but if they chose the right path, it was fine; but if they chose the wrong one, they would receive constant complaints from their teammates. Perhaps because it was their first appearance, both wanted to prove themselves, so they would constantly explain their ideas, trying to get the other to listen, thus creating minor conflicts.

Fei Jingyu and Yue Ziming’s group initially partnered with Li Mo and Li Bozhong, but later, because Fei Jingyu had better stamina and wanted to win, he chose not to wait for Li Mo and Li Bozhong while they rested, and instead set off with Yue Ziming. Yan Qingchi felt that things were definitely more complicated than that. Otherwise, Li Mo wouldn’t have blurted out complaints about Fei Jingyu after the first test. The program’s editing team must have cut out some segments that were damaging to Fei Jingyu’s image. So, in the aired footage, Fei Jingyu only parted ways with Li Mo and Li Bozhong for better results. Although it wasn’t very loyal, it wasn’t entirely unfair.

They were just unlucky; after leaving Li Mo and Li Bozhong, they went down the wrong path. On the contrary, Li Mo was very lucky. Li Bozhong guided her on most of the directions, and for the few uncertain ones, Li Mo relied on her intuition and ended up getting fourth place.

As for Yu Xiaoyu and Wei Zhihang’s group, they attracted everyone’s attention on the day of the broadcast because they were the only group out of six that failed the test. Yu Xiaoyu started complaining as soon as she entered the jungle, constantly wailing that she couldn’t walk anymore. If Wei Zhihang responded to her, she would ask to rest; if Wei Zhihang didn’t respond, she would complain to the camera that Wei Zhihang was indifferent. On the morning of the third day, after they took the wrong turn, Yu Xiaoyu completely broke down, crying and refusing to go any further, saying why she had to suffer like this. Wei Zhihang tried to persuade her for a long time, but to no avail, and announced his withdrawal after the deadline.

Yan Qingchi, watching Yu Xiaoyu on camera, felt that many negative scenes must have been edited in, otherwise Yu Xiaoyu wouldn’t just be crying, and Wei Zhihang wouldn’t have tried to persuade Li Bozhong to ignore Yu Xiaoyu while they were rowing, only to find her becoming more and more insistent.

However, even though it had been edited out, Yu Xiaoyu’s actions still annoyed netizens, who felt she was being too dramatic. Among so many girls, she was the only one who kept complaining about being tired and then gave up in the end. Wei Zhihang’s fans were even angrier. Which idol wasn’t cherished by their fans? Now, Yu Xiaoyu not only didn’t support Wei Zhihang and didn’t cooperate properly, but she also dragged him down. When Wei Zhihang tried to persuade her, she ignored him, causing Wei Zhihang to get last place in the pilot episode.

Enraged Wei Zhihang’s fans rolled up their sleeves and attacked Yu Xiaoyu. Bystanders also felt sorry for Wei Zhihang, having such a partner, and surprisingly, no one spoke up for Yu Xiaoyu, allowing her to become the first person in “Best Partner” to have a negative online post.

Fei Jingyu’s act of abandoning Li Mo and her father, while morally justifiable, was still somewhat unsettling, attracting criticism as well. However, unlike Yu Xiaoyu, who was a newcomer without fans, Fei Jingyu had his own supporters. His fans argued, “We’re not in the same group, this is a competition, don’t use moral blackmail!” Therefore, it didn’t cause too much of a stir. The biggest controversy, however, came from Jiang Mochen and Yan Qingchi.
