The two arrived at a corner of the staircase.

Located on a mezzanine level between floors, this spot was rarely frequented by students. Talking here meant they wouldn’t be overheard.

Bai Yue stopped and turned to look at Shang Yufei. The other man still wore a sour expression, hands in his pockets, watching him.

Bai Yue had rehearsed countless opening lines and persuasive arguments. However, when the words reached his lips, only a soft sigh escaped his lips.

“I don’t want to continue this stalemate,” Bai Yue said. “I didn’t come here to argue with you.”

“…”

Bai Yue: “I’m standing here of my own will, can’t you understand?”

Shang Yufei frowned slightly, remaining silent.

Seeing this, Bai Yue said softly, “In that case, let’s make a deal.”

Hearing this, Shang Yufei turned to look at him. His dark green eyes narrowed slightly: “A deal?”

Bai Yue: “I will become stronger.”

Bai Yue: “Strong enough to protect myself. I won’t get hurt easily, and I won’t make you worry.”

“You can give me a time limit. If I can’t reach your level before the time limit…” He paused, “I will drop out of school.”

“Conversely, if I do, you have to acknowledge my status as a military academy student.”

He clenched his fist, extending it towards Shang Yufei, stopping half a meter in front of the other’s chest.

This was a gesture that alphas would make when reaching some kind of agreement. A fist bump meant mutual understanding and mutual recognition.

However, Shang Yufei merely looked at his hand, without making a move.

After a moment, he raised his hand, not to bump fists, but instead grabbed his wrist.

“There are more wounds now.”

His skin was still pale. So it looked like deep red scratches on a white scroll, carrying a hint of cruel beauty.

Although, to Shang Yufei, there was absolutely no aesthetic appeal.

He looked up, meeting Bai Yue’s gaze: “Such words shouldn’t be spoken to me by someone covered in wounds.”

His fingers tightened. “You have to go back.”

Bai Yue: “…”

He closed his eyes briefly: “Then, let me add one more thing.”

“Once I become strong enough, I won’t get hurt so easily anymore. And you can judge the extent of that.”

He loosened his fist and continued to reach forward.

Although Shang Yufei grabbed Bai Yue’s wrist, he didn’t use much force, letting him approach.

Then, his slightly calloused fingertips touched his face.

Sensing the warm body temperature, Shang Yufei stiffened.

Bai Yue’s slender fingers slid from behind his ear to his chin, tracing his sharply defined features.

Shang Yufei seemed somewhat uncomfortable and wanted to pull away. But before he could touch him, the other’s fingers closed, and he lowered his hand.

“This is the only solution I can think of that we can both agree on.” Bai Yue’s lips curled slightly, seemingly with a hint of helplessness. “It doesn’t seem like it will work?”

“We finally came to the same school, and I want to spend more time with you, not argue about this kind of thing.”

Someone passed by upstairs. The footsteps grew closer and then faded away. After a moment, the stairwell returned to silence.

Bai Yue turned his head, his eyes a light gray, with a hint of sadness in them: “Anyway, I will try my best.”

He looked at Shang Yufei again and smiled: “Think it over carefully, and I will come to you again.”

Ten minutes of break time wasn’t long, but it was enough for the two of them to finish talking.

After Bai Yue left, Shang Yufei remained standing there, lost in thought.

After a while, his hand slowly moved to the spot Bai Yue had just touched.

His head was lowered, his bangs slightly covering his eyes. The tips of his ears were suspiciously red.

“Damn it,” he muttered under his breath.

Although Shang Yufei still hadn’t given in, it was a first step for Bai Yue.

He knew Shang Yufei well, and he had noticed the other’s wavering during their conversation.

So at least one thing was correct: Shang Yufei didn’t want him to enter the military academy because he didn’t believe in his abilities and didn’t want him to get hurt.

Perhaps there was more to it than that, but it was at least a significant reason.

“Surrender, surrender!”

Qin Fei was thrown to the ground, slapping the floor repeatedly in surrender.

Bai Yue then came to his senses and withdrew his foot.

This was the homeroom teacher’s combat class. Learning from the experience of the first class, Fang Xing didn’t allow free team formation this time but forced pairings. Anyone left out was paired with him.

In the past month, almost everyone had experienced Fang Xing’s personal “training.”

Qin Fei stood up, covering his face: “Brother Bai, you’ve improved too fast!”

He remembered that not long ago, Bai Yue didn’t seem very good at fighting. His performance in the previous combat classes wasn’t outstanding either.

But almost every time he appeared, he showed visible improvement compared to the previous time.

Qin Fei felt he had improved significantly since entering the school and was quite confident in his skills, but he was still no match for Bai Yue. Now he was being beaten to a pulp.

So this was the difference between S+ level and them?

Luckily, he hadn’t agreed to the sparring agreement; otherwise, how could he endure being beaten like this every day?

Qin Fei sighed heavily.

“Useless!”

Suddenly, the teacher’s stern reprimand came from behind him. Qin Fei shuddered and turned around. He found the fierce-looking teacher staring at him.

“You surrendered after just one fall! It’s been so long, why haven’t you gotten rid of your fear of pain!”

Qin Fei pleaded pitifully, “Teacher, it’s not my fault. The other students are okay, but now my legs tremble just looking at Brother Bai. It hurts my body, but it hurts my heart even more!”
