Ten minutes later, Luo Mi saw the “Scepter of Glory,” one of the three divine artifacts bestowed by God, in the Papal Palace.

The pure white scepter, over a meter long, was decorated with gold patterns. At its top was an exquisite large cross, which was embossed with various human and angel patterns. The three ends of the cross were inlaid with blue, red, and green gemstones, and the bottom of the scepter was also embossed with demon patterns.

The cardinals all stood outside the door, not daring to go in, not even Anos.

The leading cardinal explained, “The scepter of glory was the divine punishment of thorns piercing the forehead of the former Pope, and no one but the Pope may approach it.”

“No one but the Pope is allowed to get close?” Luo Mi thought to himself. “You’re probably afraid of divine punishment because you’ve all done something wrong!”

Now that Anos was clearly being targeted by the gods, Luo Mi didn’t let Anos accompany him. Instead, he went alone to the Scepter of Glory and gazed at the divine artifact floating in mid-air.

The scepter of glory radiated a soft, peaceful, and warm light.

Luo Mi still felt a sense of unreality, as if the current developments had completely overturned his understanding. However, he understood one thing: the system, or something else, had given him the angelic physique, causing the Pope and Anos to die and lose their qualifications, all so that he could wield this scepter of glory here.

—What would happen if he turned around and left now, instead of following the script?

The thought flashed through Luo Mi’s mind, and he turned to look at Anos.

Anos having folded his fallen angel’s black wings, stood at the door, quietly watching him. The people around him deliberately kept their distance, as if getting too close would taint them with an ominous aura.

Noticing Luo Mi’s gaze, Anos smiled slightly at him, as calm and composed as when they first met.

Luo Mi pursed his lips, turned around, and reached out his hand toward the Scepter of Glory.

The scepter of glory glowed slightly and then fell into his hand.

The moment Luo Mi obtained the divine artifact, a dense holy light enveloped him completely.

The holy light quickly solidified, draping Luo Mi in a papal robe interwoven with gold, red, and pure white, placing white gloves with crosses symbolizing holiness and purity on his hands, and adding a triple crown to his head.

Anos’s gaze sharpened slightly as he looked at the gleaming, supremely noble triple crown.

Unlike the triple crown worn by previous popes, the crown on Luo Mi’s head was predominantly gold and red, and featured many tiny statues of seraphim.

The cardinals also noticed the difference between Luo Mi’s triple crown and that of ordinary popes, and their gazes became even more awe-inspiring.

Anos sighed softly to himself, and an idea suddenly came to mind:

Perhaps, Lian was the chosen successor.

….

The filthy arrow quickly reached the vicinity of the city of chalk.

Just as the Blackwing Lord had predicted, after losing the Pope, the Holy City of Bethlehem only had an automatic defensive magic array, which was no match for the Arrow of Filth.

Anos, with his blood-red eyes, smirked coldly as he aimed the Filthy Arrow at the Holy City and hurled it fiercely!

Just as the filthy arrow was about to strike the holy city of Bethlehem, a faint hymn resounded, and countless divine magic arrays appeared on the surface of the holy city, which was entirely made of chalk. Holy light poured down from the sky, completely enveloping the entire holy city!

The filthy arrow struck the divine magic arrays, creating a tremendous roar!

The Blackwing Lord, who was floating in mid-air with his jet-black wings outstretched, paused for a moment. Several complex magical symbols lit up in his blood-red eyes as he looked towards the towering, pure white tower in the center of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

At the top of the white tower, a figure surrounded by flames and holy light holds a scepter of glory in both hands, with fiery wings spreading behind him.

—A new pope? Who is it?

The Blackwing Lord, his face grim, reached out and made a grasping motion, concentrating the power of the Filthy Arrow, and flew forward a little.

Just then, the new pope on the white tower looked up, and their eyes met. They both paused for a moment, startled.

….

With the power of the Scepter of Glory, Luo Mi clearly saw the face that was exactly the same as Anos’s.

So this crisis in the Holy City came from the Blackwing Lord… Luo Mi’s first reaction was admiration. As “half” of Anos, the Blackwing Lord must have been exceptionally capable and shrewd to have grown to the point of threatening the Holy City’s existence.

But then doubts arose in his mind: How did the Blackwing Lord know that Saint Gregory III would die soon and that Anos would not succeed as Pope? Even he, the temporarily appointed Pope, was able to manipulate the Holy City to block that arrow; anyone else would have been even more reliable.

He looked up at the Blackwing Lord and was slightly surprised to find that the Blackwing Lord was as if petrified, floating motionless in mid-air, his blood-red eyes revealing undisguised shock.

But soon, the shock dissipated, and a look of madness and determination appeared on the face that was exactly the same as Anos’s, as if a decision had been made.

Luo Mi was startled.

Then he saw the real fallen angel reach out and forcefully tear off his own wings!

Blood cascaded down like a waterfall.

The Blackwing Lord’s face contorted in pain as he flung his blood-soaked, jet-black wings toward the arrow that was breaching the Holy City’s defenses.

The arrow absorbed the two wings, and then its magic surged, breaking through multiple layers of divine magic arrays in one go. It was about to touch the main body of the holy city!

After tearing his own wings, the Blackwing Lord fell from the sky and vanished without a trace.

Luo Mi had no time to think. He gritted his teeth, strengthened the defenses of the Holy City, and commanded the divine light cannons buried deep within the walls of the Holy City to be activated.

“Boom!”

“Boom!”

The blazing white shells were hurled from the cannon muzzle, and fierce holy light rained down like a shower of light, focusing all fire on the dark arrowhead.

Supported by the faith of the entire holy city and even the entire realm of light, the arrow eventually ran out of steam and slowly dissipated.

Luo Mi put down the scepter of glory and realized that his whole body ached and he was too weak to move even a finger.

“The glory of ‘God’ is something that ordinary people cannot bear…” Luo Mi muttered to himself, subconsciously turning around to look for Anos.

But Anos had disappeared without a trace.

Luo Mi paused for a moment, then gripped the Glory Scepter tightly and used its power to search the Holy City and its vicinity, but found nothing.

….

In the wild forest near the Holy City, the Blackwing Lord leaned against a tree, his fingers dipped in the blood that flowed all over the ground. He drew several symbols on the ground, creating a healing magic circle to restore his injuries.

His bloodshot eyes were somewhat vacant, and he seemed lost in thought. Suddenly, he gave a chilling laugh.

Just then, the sound of footsteps was heard.

The Blackwing Lord narrowed his eyes and sat up straight.

Soon, a pair of silver-white eyes met his gaze.

The Blackwing Lord’s gaze turned serious.

“You failed,” the owner of those silver eyes said slowly. “Fortunately, you have one more chance.”
