Backstage at the awards ceremony, numerous celebrities gathered, some touching up their makeup, others adjusting their gowns, and still others resting in their dressing rooms while waiting for the ceremony to begin.

The dressing rooms for the celebrities and the entertainment industry bosses who came to present the awards were not separate, so Jiang Shining sat in her own dressing room but could still hear assistants and other staff running around outside the door, busy as bees.

Outside, the scene was bustling with activity, making Jiang Shining’s room seem quiet in contrast. Celebrities were usually surrounded by at least five or six people, but Jiang Shining only brought her newly hired secretary. The production team also specially assigned a temporary assistant, but she didn’t need a makeup artist and was currently touching up her lipstick in front of the mirror.

Tianxia Longteng’s aggressive cross-industry expansion, ironically, benefited Jiang Shining, who had just taken over the company. It allowed her to not only leverage the company’s strengths to successfully host a wildly popular talent show, but also to cultivate good relationships with most of the other company bosses.

Beauty was a powerful weapon that transcended gender and coupled with her approachable temperament and outstanding professional skills, Jiang Shining had become incredibly popular in just a few months. From other company bosses to reporters and directors, everyone who had worked with her, regardless of their position, maintained a friendly relationship with her.

The quiet didn’t last long before Jiang Shining’s door was constantly knocked on. First, it was her own young idols who had debuted, as well as artists from other companies who had participated in her variety shows, who came to say hello. Then, bosses from other entertainment companies came over for a chat.

For them, this awards ceremony was a networking event, a chance to connect with their peers.

Finally, the front desk was all set up. The organizers came to invite the celebrities and bosses. Jiang Shining adjusted her dress—she was wearing a black long dress today, with a small hem that reached to just her toes, very understated.

The evening was still a bit chilly, and the female celebrities naturally wanted to present their best selves even in winter, so they inevitably had to expose their backs or shoulders. But Jiang Shining was the boss, not a celebrity, so she comfortably draped a black shawl over herself.

“President Jiang, you’re so young and beautiful, why are you dressed so simply?” The assistant who had been temporarily assigned to the job looked her up and down and said sweetly, “I envy people as good-looking as you. You’re all covered up. If I hadn’t seen you, I wouldn’t have known you had such a good figure.”

The assistant who was sent was naturally eloquent. Jiang Shining looked away from the mirror, glanced at the assistant and smiled, but didn’t take it to heart.

The assistant thought to herself that the outfit seemed a bit too mature. Jiang Shining looked no more than 26 or 27. While the outfit was dignified, after seeing so many beautiful celebrities, she felt that the colors of the dress and cape were too conservative and too old-fashioned for the entertainment industry.

However, the assistant didn’t say it aloud. Because Jiang Shining had a beautiful face and a perfect figure, this ordinary dress on her had a certain elegance reminiscent of a noblewoman of the past.

Okay, if you’re good-looking, even wearing a burlap sack is fashionable.

Jiang Shining walked out of the dressing room, where a staff member was standing, looking somewhat troubled.

“Ms. Jiang… there have just been some adjustments made to the venue, and your seat has been moved as well…”

Jiang Shining nodded. “Okay, no problem.”

The staff member hesitated, as if about to speak. Jiang Shining then smiled and asked, “What’s wrong? Is there anything else?”

“That’s right, in the latest seating chart, you’re sitting next to Xiu Lingfei, the owner of Tianxia Longteng…”

“What?!” Jiang Shining’s secretary frowned. “How could you arrange it like this?”

In that instant, both Jiang Shining’s secretary Wang and the staff member had the same answer in their minds— it seemed that the organizers wanted to use the previous entanglement between Ninglu Media and Tianxia Longteng to generate buzz, so they deliberately put the two bosses together.

Jiang Shining’s expression remained unchanged, and she nodded slightly.

“I see.”

“President Jiang, they did it on purpose!” Secretary Wang said angrily, “They clearly knew about our entanglement with Longteng, yet…”

Jiang Shining sighed softly, “This has nothing to do with the organizers; it’s Longteng trying to annoy me on purpose.”

Secretary Wang was stunned. Before he could figure it out, Jiang Shining had already walked out.

Jiang Shining naturally understood what was going on. Xiu Lingfei, such a big boss, was attending this kind of event for the first time ever, and coincidentally, his seat was right next to hers. Everyone knew he was there for her. Jiang Shining wasn’t angry, though. After all, Tianxia Longteng was one of the top companies in the country and had a voice, while she didn’t.

The weak will be bullied; this is an age-old truth.

She simply couldn’t understand why Xiu Lingfei kept bothering her. Their relationship in their past life had ended so badly; shouldn’t Xiu Lingfei feel the same disgust as her? Was he seeking revenge, which was why he was relentlessly pursuing her?

At the end of the corridor ahead lay the awards ceremony venue. Jiang Shining composed herself and stepped inside.

As soon as she stepped into the scene, the photographers waiting outside had just finished photographing the previous celebrity, and their cameras immediately turned to Jiang Shining, with flashes going off incessantly.

“Miss Jiang, look this way.”

“Boss Jiang, over here, over here!”

Staff from different companies were all trying to get Jiang Shining’s cooperation so that they could take good photos.

Jiang Shining gave a polite smile, posed in several directions, and then continued walking forward. Ahead was the press area, where reporters enthusiastically raised their microphones upon seeing her.

Jiang Shining became an internet sensation thanks to her CEO status and beautiful face, yet the outside world knew very little about her. This mystique was what made her so captivating, keeping her popularity high even after the variety show finale; netizens were incredibly curious about her.

Therefore, you could imagine how interested entertainment reporters were in her.

Jiang Shining was naturally very resourceful. She understood that she had aroused everyone’s curiosity, and the more curious they were, the more mysterious and unpredictable she had to be to keep everyone in suspense and maximize the use of this buzz.

So, in the interview area, Jiang Shining simply smiled at all the reporters’ questions, gave a few perfunctory replies, asked everyone to support the artists under her management, and then left amidst the reporters’ resentful gazes.

When Jiang Shining arrived at the stage and took her seat, the seat to her left, marked with Xiu Lingfei’s name, was still empty. Because the talent show organized by Ninglu Company had become the hottest variety show this year, Jiang Shining was able to sit in the front row with the other big bosses. This row was divided by Xiu Lingfei’s seat; to the right were the invited bosses, and to the left were big stars and currently popular actors.

The ceremony hadn’t started yet, so the actors and bosses were chatting with people they knew. Sitting to Jiang Shining’s right was Zhao Ming, the boss of one of the entertainment companies that had sent trainees to her variety show. Jiang Shining found his casual conversation about artists and a certain actor quite amusing.

The awards ceremony, with its star-studded lineup, had generated considerable anticipation among fans. However, Jiang Shining was unaware that after someone posted a picture of her and Xiu Lingfei’s seats together on Weibo, the matter exploded once again— the feud between their two companies over artists, the popularity of Tianxia Longteng’s “father,” and Jiang Shining’s own popularity propelled the incident to the peak of gossip among netizens.
