In September, under the scorching hot summer sun, K University opened its doors.

Graduate students in engineering had no vacations, and it was a great kindness on part of the instructors to allow them to take one or two weeks off to go home during the summer vacation. Although most of the people in the INT laboratory were selected from the junior class, they upheld the research spirit of their seniors – or more accurately, they were “oppressed” by the unscrupulous seniors who were in charge of the project, so they stayed in the laboratory for the whole summer without moving.

After finishing the progress of each project, they looked at the calendar and were surprised to find that the new semester had begun.

“This isn’t fair! Why do we all have to hang out in the lab, but the captain always disappears? Who set the attendance system for this lab?”

Early in the morning, someone started howling in the laboratory.

Tan Yunchang was woken up and crawled out of the laboratory and emerged yawning with messy hair.

He was promoted to a doctoral student in the Department of Automation last year and started working on a project with his supervisor, and had just returned to City K at midnight yesterday.

With dark circles under his eyes, Tan Yunchang expressionlessly pulled over a lab student who was passing by to get water and said, “Wait a minute.”

The junior turned around and was shocked: “Senior Tan, what’s wrong with your dark circles? Have you not slept for a month?”

“If I hadn’t slept for a month, I would have come out lying on my side,” Tan Yunchang snorted and laughed, “This is called smoky makeup, a fashion we learned from our ancestors.”

The junior student laughed: “No, it’s fashionable to paint Brother Zhan’s face like a color palette, but for mortals like us, forget it. We look just like ghosts.”

Tan Yunchang pretended to raise his hand to slap him, and then raised his chin towards the boy who was still mumbling: “Who is this Oh Oh Chicken?”

“Oh, the freshmen who just joined last semester don’t know the rules. I heard that their group was scolded by Brother Zhan for that project, so they are taking advantage of Brother Zhan’s absence to vent their anger.”

“Venting their anger on Luo Zhan?” Tan Yunchang laughed angrily, “I heard that Luo Zhan has been in a good mood recently. Is he so good that it’s earth-shattering or do they think he’s become a vegetarian and Buddhist? Why do the newcomers dare to talk to the captain like this? Times have really changed.”

“That’s right. Compared to before, Brother Zhan’s temper has been much better in the past two years. He really no longer manages many things in the laboratory and has handed them over to Qianhua. How can Qianhua’s temper control these troublemakers? The new guys are almost going crazy – hey, Senior Tan, where are you going?”

Tan Yunchang had already rolled up his sleeves and walked out. Hearing this, he snorted and didn’t look back.

“Helping your brother Zhan fulfill his duties as a senior brother.”

“Ha?”

“…”

At exactly nine o’clock, Luo Zhan stepped into the main entrance of the INT laboratory.

As soon as the door opened, he was greeted by an eerie atmosphere so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

Luo Zhan paused.

After pausing for two seconds, he stepped back and looked up at the sign outside the door – it was indeed INT.

Luo Zhan raised his eyebrows slightly.

At this moment, in the corridor behind him, Lin Qianhua shook the water droplets off his hands and walked to the door of the laboratory. As soon as he looked up, he was stunned: “Brother Zhan, why did you come so early today?”

“Something’s going on,” Luo Zhan gestured towards the door, “What’s going on inside?”

“Ah, about that,” Lin Qianhua laughed, “Senior Tan came back to the lab last night, and this morning he seemed to have been disturbed by those rookies who had just arrived at the end of last semester.”

“Well, then what?”

“There was one person who was dissatisfied with the attendance system you set up and kept complaining. As a result, Senior Tan dragged them to the inner room and scolded them for an hour in front of your boxes of trophies, medals and certificates that were covered with dust. They were hit so hard that they naturally look like eggplants hit by frost now.”

After listening to this, Luo Zhan nodded: “Really free.”

Lin Qianhua laughed: “If Senior Brother Tan hears this, he will be so angry that he will die.”

“I’ve heard it.” A voice came faintly from inside the door.

When Luo Zhan and Lin Qianhua looked up, they saw Tan Yunchang clinging to the door frame, looking at Luo Zhan with resentful eyes: “Ancestor, I haven’t seen you for almost a year. I just came back to help you vent your anger, and you are slandering me like this?”

Luo Zhan walked in nonchalantly: “Isn’t this the truth?”

Luo Zhan walked back to his computer desk and pulled out his computer chair: “When they arrive at a new place, they don’t know to learn more, watch more, talk less, and ask less. They can only complain all the time and can’t produce outstanding results. Such people will be screened out by INT sooner or later. You are taking care of this extra thing, aren’t you too free?”

His voice was not lowered, and everyone could hear it in the quiet laboratory.

The rookies who were sitting far away blushed and wished they could bury their heads in the table.

Before this morning, they had already been dissatisfied. Even if they didn’t dare confront him directly, they would at least gossip about him behind his back. But after experiencing a period of education from Tan Yunchang, the eyes of several people now showed that Luo Zhan was almost gilded.

Seeing that those people were indeed convinced, Tan Yunchang withdrew his gaze with satisfaction. He pulled the chair next to Luo Zhan over and sat down across it.

Lin Qianhua said disdainfully: “Mine.”

“What’s yours and mine between us? Are we so unfamiliar with each other?” Tan Yunchang said, and turned to Luo Zhan with a playful smile, “Tell me the truth, why did you come so early today?”

Luo Zhan didn’t say anything but lazily raised his eyelids and glanced at him.

“Is it because of Tang…” Tan Yunchang deliberately dragged out his tone.

Luo Zhan didn’t react yet, but Lin Qianhua slammed the table. Tan Yunchang, who was caught off guard, was frightened and turned his head back: “F**k you! You scared me to death!”

Lin Qianhua ignored him and looked at Luo Zhan in surprise: “I was saying that since I woke up this morning, I always felt like I was forgetting something – isn’t sister Tang Ran coming to register as a new student today?”

The laboratory was originally quiet, so the rare sudden movements of the two “old men” Tan Yunchang and Lin Qianhua attracted everyone’s attention, and they all looked over curiously.

Tan Yunchang was still in shock and rolled his eyes in annoyance: “If you ask him, will he be willing to tell you? You have to ask me.”

“Senior Tan, please stop keeping me in suspense – Brother Zhan kept it a secret and didn’t even tell me which major Sister Tang Ran had applied for.”

Tan Yunchang raised his head proudly: “I actually know this, in the Automation Department.”

Lin Qianhua was surprised: “Is it possible that it is in the same direction as us?”

“I don’t know. The control area is my male god’s territory. With such a great father, I don’t think Luo Zhan can necessarily abduct her.”

“…”

Luo Zhan finally reacted and glanced at Tan Yunchang with a chill.

Tan Yunchang chuckled: “Qianhua, aren’t you curious about how I know this?”

“Hmm? Oh, you’re not out of town…”

“Let me tell you, my lab advisor was terrified this year—he called me every day in the first half of the year.”

“Why did he look for you?”

“He heard that Luo Zhan and I were close, and he asked me every day if Luo Zhan was planning to leave INT – otherwise why would he be walking around with his high school chemistry and biology textbooks every few days?”

“…Pfft.” Lin Qianhua couldn’t help laughing, “I know this. Sister Tang Ran is biased in subjects, and she’s not very good at chemistry and biology. During that time, Brother Zhan tutored her.”

“Yeah, he called me again yesterday.”

“Hmm? What was he talking about this time?”

“Say what……”

Tan Yunchang smiled mischievously and turned to look at Luo Zhan who had lazily lowered his eyes: “My God, we are from the junior class of K University, and our INT team is the only one in the whole school. But the team leader insisted on going to the Automation Department and pretending to be an undergraduate senior to participate in the orientation – isn’t that too shameless?”

Lin Qianhua turned back in astonishment: “Welcoming the new students? Is this true, Brother Zhan?”

Luo Zhan listened to the whole thing calmly, without even raising his eyelids, and only snorted softly:

“I am happy to do so.”

After saying this, the man retracted his long legs and stood up.

Tan Yunchang leaned back with a smile: “What are you doing? Are you angry with shame and ready to escape?”

Luo Zhan’s long legs stopped and he turned sideways.

He raised his wrist and tapped the dial of his watch. On that expressionless face, the corners of his thin lips suddenly curled up coldly: “New student registration has begun.”

“…”

“The Automation Department has always had an imbalanced gender ratio, and there are wolves everywhere. I can’t let the little girl in alone.”

“Bah, bah, bah, you’re already stuffing me with dog food as soon as I got back!”

Luo Zhan snorted lightly, turned around and was about to leave.

“Zhan, Brother Zhan…”

A voice suddenly sounded in the corner.

Luo Zhan stopped slowly, and Tan Yunchang and Lin Qianhua also looked up in confusion.

The junior who had just been scolded not long ago smiled awkwardly: “Brother Zhan, are you going to pick someone up?”

Before Luo Zhan could say anything, Tan Yunchang interrupted maliciously, “Isn’t it? He’s going to pick up your sister-in-law.”

The man stood up sheepishly: “The freshmen must be busy with a lot of things to carry, how about we go together. We can help if needed, otherwise we will come back.”

Tan Yunchang looked surprised, and even Luo Zhan raised his eyebrows slightly.

The laboratory was silent for two seconds. Then under everyone’s expectant gaze, Luo Zhan slowly nodded.

“Okay.” He rubbed his shoulders and neck, and walked out lazily, “I’m not putting you under house arrest. If you want to watch the fun, go ahead.”

“Wah!”

With a clatter, everyone in the room stood up.

Luo Zhan, who had just walked out, suddenly froze.

He turned around: “…are you all going?”

Seeing this, Tan Yunchang almost fell off his chair with laughter: “Let’s go! Ancestor, you promised it yourself, so you can’t deny it!”

“…”
