In fact, neither of them could sleep on such a snowy winter night.

Jiang Sui had been exposed to the wind in the cave for most of the day and thus developed a fever in the second half of the night.

Chi Yan noticed that her body temperature was not right, so he reached out and touched her forehead, it was burning hot.

“Jiang Sui, wake up.”

She opened her eyes dazedly, and then groggily leaned against his chest. The girl’s cheeks were flushed, and her breath was hot.

Chi Yan glanced at her, took out a dagger with one hand, cut a piece of cloth from his shirt, and pushed the branches apart to create a gap just enough for his hand to reach out.

Chi Yan stretched out his hand, snowflakes fell on his palm, and soon melted into ice water. He wet the cloth and covered Jiang Sui’s forehead with it to cool her down.

Chi Yan repeated this method, and perhaps because she felt comfortable, Jiang Sui rubbed against his palm unconsciously.

Chi Yan pursed his lips into a line, but his hands did not move, and then his cold fingertips gently brushed across her eyes, her butterfly-like eyelashes, and finally landed on her lips.

Jiang Sui had a face that didn’t match her personality. She looked delicate and pretty, like a blooming peach blossom.

His fingers had become very cold from catching snowflakes repeatedly.

Jiang Sui dreamed of eating ice cream. August was the hottest season in R City. She didn’t know why, but she felt thirsty and hot, and her whole body felt like it was burning.

A cold ice cream was then handed to her mouth. She opened her mouth and put it in her mouth.

Unfortunately, this was a block of ice, without any taste. Not sweet, not salty, just that cool feeling, doing its job well.

She realized that she couldn’t bite the white ice cream, and it suddenly slipped out of her mouth.

Jiang Sui: “?”

Well, it tasted bad anyway, so I won’t eat it. Her personality could be described as easygoing. It was so hot now that she was happy to have something to eat, but she was not too disappointed if she didn’t have anything to eat.

The wind was still blowing outside, and the snow in the second half of the night was not as heavy as before.

Chi Yan looked at her silently for a long time, then put his finger to her lips again.

He didn’t know what was going on in his mind, but he didn’t move them away.

After a long while, she opened her mouth hesitantly, but before she could touch him, her head tilted and she fell asleep completely.

Chi Yan’s expression was unpredictable, as if he had just woken up from a dream, and his face looked a little strange and ugly.

He hugged her tightly, without saying a word. Here it came again, he always did this, whenever he met Jiang Sui, he did something inexplicable.

At dawn, Jiang Sui’s fever subsided and she slept soundly. Although she had some ailments from her mother, she usually recovered quickly.

Chi Yan stayed with her for a whole night, and when he saw that her forehead was no longer hot, he still couldn’t sleep.

The next day was still not sunny, the sun didn’t come out and the sky was dark and windy. In fact, it was better this way, because it was not as cold as when the snow melted.

At daybreak, Chi Yan picked up the still sleeping Jiang Sui and walked down the mountain.

He had marked the way up the mountain yesterday. This survival skill was much more useful than a mobile phone in the wild. He observed while walking and took every step carefully and slowly.

The forest was not that dangerous in winter. However, in the past, people in this village all went hunting. Even though they all moved away later, some traps were left on the mountain. After walking for a while, Chi Yan saw two wild animal traps buried by heavy snow.

Jiang Sui woke up in his arms and looked at Chi Yan blankly.

From her perspective, she could see the man’s firm chin. She asked, “Are we going down the mountain?”

“Well,” Chi Yan paused, “You dare to come to a place like this, you are really courting death.”

His tone was extremely cold. Anyone else would have felt that Chi Yan was mocking or blaming them and would have felt embarrassed or ashamed by his words and attitude.

However, Jiang Sui didn’t think so.

When she and Song Di fell into the cave yesterday, she reflected on it. It was wrong for a large group of people to go up the mountain rashly. She was so anxious at the time, and the production team was unreliable. Now she felt a little scared. Not to mention how Jiang Xue was now, she and Song Di almost died there.

So when she heard the rigid and cold tone of Chi Yan, she said obediently, “You’re right.” Her tone was soft, almost compromising without a temper.

Chi Yan was tired of talking.

Jiang Sui said: “Put me down, I can walk by myself.”

Chi Yan paused, and then he put her down: “I’ll go ahead, and you follow in my footsteps.”

Jiang Sui nodded and said obediently: “Okay.”

She was wearing snow boots and following Chi Yan down the mountain, following the footprints on the ground that were much larger than her.

The journey was too long, so Jiang Sui asked: “Chi Yan, where is Song Di? Has he gone down the mountain?”

Chi Yan sneered, but she couldn’t see it. He said calmly, “Most likely he went down the mountain.”

Jiang Sui didn’t like Song Di’s behavior yesterday. If Chi Yan hadn’t climbed out of the cave by himself, the consequences would have been unimaginable. If Song Di didn’t leave, they could pull Chi Yan up together after their hands and feet were no longer so stiff and they had recovered some strength.

Jiang Sui: “Where is my sister Jiang Xue? Is she in any danger?”

Chi Yan said, “Most beasts hibernate in winter, so it shouldn’t happen.” This was not the case, but Chi Yan subconsciously said something nice. Although the beasts hibernated, Jiang Sui’s situation yesterday was definitely not rare or accidental, not to mention that there were still traps left on the mountain. If Jiang Xue and the others were unlucky, they could encounter anything.

Jiang Sui was comforted by his calm tone and her worries were alleviated a little.

Jiang Sui didn’t dare to ask Chi Yan why he appeared here. She knew it very well and knew that it would be embarrassing to ask.

But human feelings were like a thorn stuck in one’s heart, making her feel uncomfortable. After all, she was not the kind of person who could feel at ease turning a blind eye to other people’s kindness.

Jiang Sui was confused for a long time. Before going down the mountain, she stared at the hem of his clothes with a missing corner, and she had some impression of what happened last night.

She seemed to have a fever, and Chi Yan used a handkerchief to cool her down. She also had a strange dream about ice cream.

This may be what happened when a person was sick and confused, always having bizarre dreams.

Jiang Sui suddenly asked: “Chi Yan, is there anything I can do for you?”

She had heard such words from him many times, but this was the first time she asked Chi Yan if she could do anything for him.

“No need,” Chi Yan looked at the snow in front of him and said after a while, “You can’t give me anything.”

Jiang Sui found that he had killed the conversation and she couldn’t possibly say, “I can do it! Do you believe I can do it!”

However, she had to repay this favor. After all, this was saving a life, not a favor of supporting someone.

Jiang Sui felt inexplicably melancholy, but before she could finish feeling melancholy, she lost her balance and fell forward.

Chi Yan reacted faster than her. Before she could scream, he turned his head with a serious and vigilant expression, such that Jiang Sui threw herself into his arms.

The man’s embrace felt a little cold, perhaps because he was blocking the wind and snow in front of him. She even felt a snowflake from his collar falling on her cheek.

Jiang Sui raised her head in panic and was about to say sorry, when she saw Chi Yan staring at her in a daze with a complicated look, and it seemed like it took him a while to make up his mind.

Jiang Sui didn’t understand and tilted her head to look at him.

Chi Yan said coldly: “You don’t need to do this.”

Jiang Sui reacted. She was still asking him what she could do for him one moment and hugged him the next moment. Now, her explanation seemed to be more obvious.

Jiang Sui was so embarrassed that she blushed and defended herself: “It’s not like that, I just didn’t stand firmly.”

He pursed his lips, glanced at her, and let her go.

Jiang Sui: “…Thank you.”

The two never spoke again along the way.

Jiang Sui didn’t know what Chi Yan was feeling. Anyway, her ears were burning all the way down the mountain. She didn’t even feel that the way down the mountain was far. Her mind was completely diverted.

It was not until she saw the village at the foot of the mountain that Jiang Sui became happy again: “I’m really back!”

Chi Yan said, “You go over there.”

“Won’t you come with me?”

Chi Yan: “My car is somewhere else. I’m driving back to City R now.” He paused, “Don’t tell anyone that I was here.”

The man’s figure gradually walked away. Jiang Sui looked at him for a while, then turned and walked down the mountain.

Jiang Shuisheng was almost driven crazy when he learned that Jiang Sui had also not returned. However, the search and rescue team had arrived and stopped him from going up the mountain again.

After Jiang Sui went back, Jiang Shuisheng felt like he was alive again.

This was good news, but the bad news was that Jiang Xue and Song Di had not returned yet.

Jiang Sui told the story of her and Song Di’s encounter, and obeying Chi Yan’s words, she omitted Chi Yan’s name and did not mention what happened in the cave. Everyone gasped, and Jiang Shui was frightened.

Her uncle had a circle of blisters on his mouth and was very anxious.

The search and rescue team also realized the seriousness of the situation and began to go up the mountain in an organized manner. The masses were prohibited from going up the mountain.

It was already afternoon. Seeing Jiang Sui’s miserable and haggard appearance, Jiang Shuisheng said quickly, “There is food in the village kitchen. You haven’t eaten for almost a day and a night. Eat something and take a nap. Your uncle and I will definitely find a way to find your sister.”

Jiang Sui didn’t feel hungry before Jiang Shuisheng mentioned it, but as soon as he said it, Jiang Sui really felt hungry.

She followed his instructions and walked into the village kitchen, opened the lid of the pot, and saw a few white steamed buns still steaming inside, and porridge next to it. She ate one bowl of porridge and a bun, and her empty stomach felt better.

Jiang Sui paused, looked at the steamed buns, then lit a fire and boiled an egg.

When she went out, she deliberately avoided Jiang Shuisheng and the others and walked towards the direction in which Chi Yan had left.

Jiang Sui was just trying her luck, but she didn’t expect that the white car hidden in the plants had still not moved.

She walked lightly to the car window and saw the man asleep on the steering wheel.

When he left her, his eyes and brows showed a bit of fatigue.

Sometimes she always felt that he was very mature, but now she realized that Chi Yan was only a few years older than her. What’s more, under normal circumstances, he should still be in college at his age.

Even though there was a car window between them, he suddenly opened his eyes alertly and looked at Jiang Sui outside the window.

Chi Yan rubbed his forehead, sobered up a little, and lowered the window: “What’s wrong?”

Jiang Sui held the steamed buns, eggs and milk she had brought with her in her hands: “You haven’t eaten for a long time. It will take a long time to drive out. Eat something.”

Chi Yan said, “No need.”

Seeing that she was in good spirits, he started the car and left.

Jiang Sui heard the engine and panicked. She leaned over the car window and fed the steamed bun to his lips: “It’s delicious. Would you like to have some?”

She had known for a long time that Chi Yan had stomach problems.

The steamed bun touched his lips, so he lowered his eyes, opened his mouth and took a bite.

The maltose melted in his mouth and was very sweet.

Seeing her dazed look, he took the milk, eggs, and steamed buns from her.

Chi Yan held the steamed bun in his mouth, put the egg in his suit pocket, stepped on the accelerator and drove away.

He didn’t say anything, but he knew in his heart that this was the first time in many years that someone had cared whether he was hungry or not.
