However, since the ghost had saved Xiao Bao, she still decided to buy some things to burn for the ghost in the tunnel.

“A rather tall and large ghost?” Xie Lingya nodded after hearing this. “It’s alright, I know what I’m doing. I’ll burn it for you.”

Liu Haixin didn’t know much about burning paper money for others, but she felt that Xie Lingya might be more professional at it, so she nodded in agreement.

Xie Lingya turned around and grabbed some paper ingots. Shi Changxuan saw this and asked him what he was doing.

“Burning them for the Eastern Ghost King. He seems to have met Xiao Bao today and acted like Lei Feng[1].” Xie Lingya said, then felt annoyed. “Why is he here again?”

Ever since Liu Lingtong was reincarnated, even though the Eastern Ghost King was used to the cycle of life and death, he couldn’t help but sigh. He even tried to take back Liu Lingtong’s wooden body as a souvenir. Later, he bothered them all day long, asking them to make another Reporting god for him, and even fantasized about whether it could be made into a cat shape.

Xie Lingya refused, saying that the Phytolacca God was naturally born and very rare, while Liu Lingtong needed to be artificially created, so he needed to find a soul for it. The Eastern Ghost King claimed that he had many ghosts to provide, and he could lock his underlings up and force them to act cute.

Xie Lingya shuddered at the thought of the blood-soaked or blue-faced, fanged demons under the Eastern Ghost King’s command, but still refused. The Eastern Ghost King then kept bothering him.

Because it was considered bad for a child to see ghosts, the Eastern Ghost King hadn’t visited Xiao Bao after his reincarnation. Therefore, this meeting was the first since his reincarnation.

It seemed the Eastern Ghost King had recognized his past life connection and was helping him out; it was fate, fulfilling a past life’s bond.

“Alright, I’ll stay on the mountain tonight. There are temples and talismans there; he won’t be able to find them,” Xie Lingya said, grinning at Shi Changxuan.

Shi Changxuan: “…”

He slowly lowered his head, acting nonchalant.

Xie Lingya: “You still have a paper to write today, right? Rushing to finish it here?”

Shi Changxuan: “…………”

Xie Lingya laughed wildly: “Hahahahahahaha!!”

He had figured it out; Shi Changxuan was just a facade, seemingly serious but secretly thinking about who-knows-what, always putting on airs. So he loved teasing Shi Changxuan.

Shi Changxuan soon realized what was going on and unable to maintain his aloofness, he pressed Xie Lingya onto the table, one hand on his lower back, the other supporting his head as he kissed him.

After a long, affectionate kiss, Xie Lingya, remembering the children, pushed him away, got up, and went outside.

Under the fruit tree in the yard, Sisi led Da Bao and Xiao Bao in a row, looking up and shouting, “Go! Go! Go!”

Above, Guai Long was clinging to the branches, struggling to bite and break off the fruit. As soon as it fell, the three children picked it up and shared it. Exhausted, Guai Long’s entire body arched in a state of utter despair, and he finally hung lazily from the tree.

Xie Lingya: “…”

Sigh, it’s not easy for the Guai Long to take care of children.

….

With Xie Lingya there, Liu Haixin felt relieved and went back to rest. Xie Lingya and Shi Changxuan took the three children to the hot spring resort.

Lian Tan had a lecture today but still managed to come and see them.

After leaving, Da Bao asked, “Why does Grandpa Monk have such a big scar on his ear?”

Xie Lingya looked up and thought for a moment, “Because before, there was a very bad guy who bit off Grandpa Monk’s ear. Grandpa Monk went to the hospital, and the doctor stitched it up, leaving a big scar.”

Da Bao was so scared that he covered his own ear. Biting off an ear sounded too terrifying!

Xiao Bao was eating ice cream and, seeing this, also raised one hand to cover his ear, but couldn’t cover the other ear, and was about to cry.

Sisi immediately covered his ears and said, “Don’t be afraid. If any bad guys come, I’ll rip their ears off first! Then I’ll release the snake to bite them!”

The next second, Xie Lingya grabbed her ears. “You little rascal, have you finished your homework? You can’t go swimming until you’ve finished.”

They entered the suite noisily. Xie Lingya found some food, opened the window, and placed the food on the windowsill. “Let’s try to see if we can catch a fox.”

Of course, the foxes could be caught. Before long, the little fox from back then, now a large wild fox, darted in, followed by two cubs.

The fox let the children eat first. When it saw Xie Lingya coming at the sound, it stood up and bowed to him with its front paws together.

“Hello to you too.” Xie Lingya nodded to him. “I brought two old friends with me today. I wonder if you remember them.”

“Foxes!” The three children wanted to hug them but were afraid of scaring them away.

The fox didn’t recognize its old friends at first, until it saw the little wooden figure hanging on Da Bao’s backpack. Then it suddenly realized and went over to sniff Da Bao’s hand.

Da Bao picked up the fox, wrapped it around his neck, and strutted around a few times, hands on his hips, asking Xie Lingya, “Isn’t it pretty?”

Xie Lingya smacked him on the head, “Pretty.”

He tossed the child and the fox into the water, then jumped in himself in his swim trunks, turning back to Shi Changxuan and saying, “It’s children’s fun time now, you know.”

Shi Changxuan: “………………I didn’t.”

He couldn’t prove he wasn’t such a beast, nor could he go all the way, so he sighed and sat by the pool writing his thesis.

The fox, with its two cubs, chased after the splashes of water from the children at the poolside.

Xie Lingya leaned against the edge, “Hey, all that’s missing is Uncle and Grandmaster, then we can finally have a family reunion… Hey, how many generations does this count as?”

It was hard to calculate, after all, there were dozens of generations between them and their ancestor, and Chinese literature didn’t seem to have a word to describe this situation.

“Godfather!” Suddenly, a small head nestled on Xie Lingya’s left shoulder, and another one nestled on his right.

Da Bao whispered, “When I was sleeping in the car, I dreamt it would rain tomorrow.”

Xiao Bao weakly added, “I also had a dream, I dreamt that Godfather fed me fruit…”

Hearing the voices beside his shoulder, Xie Lingya felt incredibly comfortable. This feeling seemed unchanged. “Then we’ll order more fruit later and then borrow a few umbrellas from the monks. And then—”

Xie Lingya’s expression turned somewhat strange, with a hint of excitement: “You’re all grown up enough, it’s time to learn Uncle Changxuan’s trump card!”

Shi Changxuan: “???”

[1] Lei Feng was portrayed as a model citizen, and the masses were encouraged to emulate his selflessness, modesty, and devotion to Mao Zedong. In the following years, Lei Feng was portrayed as a symbol and model of party revolution by both the Chinese Communist Party and Government of China.
